I just assumed it was a cop bar. The parking lot is always full of trucks and midsize SUVs of white suburbanites who look a little to clean cut but not wealthy to be much else.
I avoid it. Wu Wei Din is literally next door and there’s no excuse for Chill at that point.
The HR person, Julia, who responds to all the reviews is obsessed with cops and firefighters. The owner is rich and has all of Grapevine PD in his pocket,
The amount of tea I have on this place is ridiculous. Let me know if you want to know more. But Julia, the HR person who replies to the reviews, is actually crazy. She’s felt up the employees there before. She is literally HR.

Pretty much. I really respect the ones in recovery though because that's the equivalent of a heroin addict heating up spoons for people and having a lethal amount on hand at all times. Incredible levels of discipline and commitment.
Shouts out to those in recovery! One day at a time 🙏
So everyone’s experience is gonna be the same as this “bartender” who got a little less volume in his drink. People think everything is like McDonald’s, just give me exactly same thing every time. Exact measurements. Like grow up lol
I don't drink and don't know shit about shots and don't care. The owner's reply is rude and dumb and from the stuff I read about said owner, I won't be twisting myself in knots to defend him.
I’ve been to the Chill in Grapevine (I think there’s several Chill locations) and I never felt like they under poured. They could be at a different location, or it could just be 1 bartender who isn’t good at eyeballing shots
Underpouring is actually theft in some states and they just inadvertently admitted to it.
Would’ve been real easy to just say they pour to industry standards or whatever. Instead they deflect.
Yeah I remember a few years back, a state here in the U.S. made it law as well and that triggered me to see that a lot of states already had a law like that in affect.
LMAO Reddit opinions are wild.
There’s a 90% chance this bartender is a raging alcoholic that over pours her customers. Chilis is a big corporate owed chain that uses a jigger to serve a correct sized shot. She probably got a proper sized shot and was offended.

I cannot imagine reading this exchange and thinking the person that had to mention their bartender occupation and complained about too little alcohol is probably in the right.
In a shot glass? If it was an underpour, I would even taken the drink and this person saying he's a bartender wouldn't of either. I have a hard time believing this one.
Or even “we will double down in the face of reasonable criticism, even if we’re 100% in the wrong, because our staff has insecurity issues”
Which might be worse than just under pouring, as it tells you they’ll problem address other problems customers raise this way.
Seems pretty trashy and everyone I know who goes there routinely is super trashy and trying to hook up in sad gross ways with people who are too drunk to know better or also desperate. There was a shooting in their parking lot in somewhat recent memory.
All of the bad parts of a dive bar with the pricing and pretentious attitude of a nicer sports bar.
Any time a business owner responds to a negative review in any other way than something like “Sorry you’ve had a negative experience, we’ve reached out to see how we can make things right” I’m 100% on the reviewer’s side.
Owners who get super defensive come off as self righteous & unable to take criticism and I wouldn’t want to give them my business.
Place got shady. The Lewisville location 2 years ago was a great time until someone was shot and killed on the patio. A seperate situation a gun was found that had been sat down inside a bathroom stall. Just overall shady asf. I wish it was different because I live close by AND THEY have the best salmon. But, I'd rather Go down the street to Maverick any day of the week!
I judge a bar based off my first drink. If I don't like it, I cash out and go elsewhere. No need to keep ordering drinks if they aren't to your liking.
not related to alcohol: but i feel like chilli’s has gone down the drain. i recently went there with my boyfriend and ordered the fajitas… they were definitely not it. is this happening to all chili’s?
i’m all for businesses defending themselves idgaf
the customer is usually fucking wrong and review culture has given people big ass heads about themselves
Questions/Thoughts: has anyone been here and had good or bad service? I'm supposed to meet a group today for the Cowboys game but the reviews are concerning. Multiple mention (or imply) racism, inattentive servers, and this one in the picture is the golden nugget of the owner's reply that speaks for itself. Should I even give my money to a place like this? I'd love to hear other's thoughts!
Site: https://www.chillbardfw.com/
I do the Grapevine location quite a bit and kind of know the owners. Pours are typically 1.25 or 1.5 ounces (never bothered to measure.), prices are fine and the specials are good. But they do not like pain in the ass people. You get in a fight, you're getting banned. You get wasted and cause a scene, you're out and getting the cops called if you try to drive. If you're a jerk to the staff, they'll toss ya. Best bet is the person replying knows which person complaining about pours is writing the review and is happy to keep them from coming back.
There is no racism,

People claimed that because when they first opened their dress code prohibited pants not pulled up correctly, no one wants to see someone's ass/boxers, no matter the color of their skin. and other gang related clothing styles.

Because some of the ban was more popular with certain people then others, it was viewed as racist. to be clear white guys wearing sagging pants to let others guys know they are open for business would be dress coded as quickly as a black or hispanic man wearing the same style,

While it is a full bar it is also a restaurant where families eat with their kids so they try to make sure the bar part doesn't ruin the restaurant part. I tend to stick with IPA's no I can't tell you how weak theirs mix drinks are or are not There are some raging alcoholics that are always going to complain the drinks are weak no matter what.
Never been to this place, but that is an extremely common way that racist bar owners run business. Those dress codes are the way that bars keep out people they don’t want to serve. They are generally selectively enforced. And the defense of those policies is “no baggy pants or gang stuff”, but that’s not really where the line is drawn usually. Been to a few places like this with friends who are POC and was shocked when they got rejected and I didn’t even though we were wearing basically the same clothes
The ban wasn't on baggy pants it was the having the pants blow the ass showing 100% of underwear.

funny how requiring a tie or jacket isn't racist but saying pants need to be wore properly is. I personally have zero desire to see any guy showing off his ass, especially where food is being served.

people feel that is unfairly treating people of 1 race then maybe the problem is something they need to fix?
To me it's no different then no shirt, no shoes no service.
I think you might be misunderstanding? Just saying that dress codes themselves are not racist, but they are often used as tools by racist bar owners.
So it doesn’t really make sense to disprove racism by the reasonableness of those policies - you could have a perfectly reasonable policy that’s enforced inconsistently so as to target POCs. Or the racist reputation could have arisen through other events totally unrelated to the dress code. What’s in the dress code is pretty much irrelevant.
But it does seem a little weird to me that they explicitly had to state that. Just kinda begs the question of what instigated it.
All that said, I’ve never even heard of this place before today. I don’t really care. Just seems like a stretch to claim absolutely that “there is no racism” there. I mean I don’t experience any racism anywhere on my own, but I have seen it second hand when I’m with friends who are POC. So it’s just something that is really difficult to disprove.
Me and two friends constantly go to the one in Grapevine. That's two black guys and one hispanic. Never once had any issues there. You've never been there, but they're racist? It's crazy, but I see other minorities that work and go there. I don't work there, I have no reason to defend the place, but the dress-code=racism argument is weird. I'm sure there are places where "baggy pants=black people, so no baggy pants." But I think a lot of places really just don't want pants below the bottom.
I’m not saying that “dress code = racism” at all. I’ve just seen it used as a tool to deny entry to a couple of my friends in the past.
At one of those places, part of the dress code was “No sports wear and no shoes with laces”. Well they didn’t give a shit if you were white and wore shoes with laces - I had been there before with sneakers and didn’t even know about the dress code until they enforced it on my friend (Asian) and it was a pretty weird situation. That place had a bit of a reputation for racism too.
Another time it was “no shorts”. I got in with shorts, my friend (Black) didn’t.
So no, dress code isn’t racist, but I’ve seen it used selectively in the past for what seemed to be racist motives.
Well, then that's obviously racism. I guess i misunderstood your post. And honestly, I don't even know why I'm on here defending Chill. I usually only use reddit for video game stuff, but this popped up this morning 😆. It's really not the best place in the world, I was only saying based on my own experience, they don't turn away people based on skin color. If they did, they would lose half of their business. And there are better places in the same area. But yeah, I get what you're saying 👍
Yeah and to be fair, I know absolutely nothing about Chill. These were different bars. Just thought that what the other commenter said was suspect at best at “proving” there’s no racism lol
Just to add, the racism dress code thing started before they opened as the posted the code on the front door someone took a pic of it an posted it on line citing racism.
I've been there dozens of times the only person I ever saw kicked out was a hispanic guy that lived near by and who was so drunk he puked on his pizza Lewisville PD were there eating so they were trying to get drunk guy out through the patio so the police wouldn't get involved.
According to the bartender, drunk guy was a bartender at a nearby restaurant who lived nearby and came in all the time.
Because he didn't drive, got drunk at home and didn't cause problems/fights/etc they would just ask him to leave if he showed up too wasted,
I've never seen anyone dress coded.
I don't think asking men to properly wear their pants has racist or too much to ask though,
I don't go around looking to be offended so I might have missed something, I doubt it though as I typically sit at the bar closet to the door, I would notice if someone was protesting being asked to leave.
I do recommend Oscar's chicken: grilled chicken breast with pesto, grilled onions and bacon,

The pizzas not bad either despite homeboy throwing up on his
I mean, if you can get the group to pick an alternate location, I would. Their website is also a mess and it just looks poorly run. There's a BoomerJack's just up the road if you're planning on eating at all, and that's *fine*. If you want someplace nicer then the Grandscape area is just up the road with a lot of stuff.
>If you want someplace nicer then the Grandscape area is just up the road with a lot of stuff.
But trying to park at Grandscape will make you kill yourself.
I live 5 minutes from here and only gone once. Sat on the patio for the band, server never came by to get us drinks just walked past us. I had to ask the bartender for a glass of water and the glass was dirty. I would skip, there are much better places in Lewisville.
I’ve been going probably once or twice a month of evening and or breakfast for over a year now. Always a good experience. Everyone is nice and kind though the only criticism I can say is 50/50 on speed of service. But food and drinks are always on point and never have had to complain or send anything back. Lewisville location.
I go here sometimes when I get off work. Service is slow but it’s a shitty sports bar. It’s to be expected. If you’re looking for world class service, watch the game at Del Friscos.
They have great cheese fries and cold beers.
If you are wanting a place to watch the game with friends, Chili’s is great. But if you are looking for out of control drunks getting loud, obnoxious and unsociable, it may not be for you.
Lol "not satisfied with our pours go somewhere else"
This is one of several reasons why I don't go out anymore, I just drink at home and work on my cooking skills.
Owners that reply to reviews with sarcasm are guaranteed to close their business within a year. I agree with the guy, there’s thousands of bars in Dallas don’t waste your money
Let me ask you a couple questions. What to you think the fine and penalties would be from TABC for over serving? Think that might affect the insurance costs? And do you think there would be a greater chance of that happening during the football/holiday season?
CHILL, the bar that OP was asking about. CHILI'S, the restaurant that you're referring to. CHILL or CHILL-EES. Two different places. See how that works?
100%. A nightcap? Sure. But a nightcap + shots, and then complaining about the size of the shots and writing a review about it? Person is driving under the influence and has a problem.
Yeah and just the casualness about planning to have “a few shots” after work. That’s just not normal. You only take shots to get drunk and it’s not healthy to casually plan to get drunk on the way home from work…
You are seeing a push in the past year or two for more Advertising on reddit.
One reason for the push to a single app for reddit, and you have companies now mentioning reddit in their marketing programs
Haha, just shows how annoying Yelp is.
But it would’ve taken the same energy to state what their standard pour is or reiterate they follow industry standard units of measurement. That they didn’t do that tells me they underpour as their model.
I used to work at the one in grapevine. Can confirm a lot of the comments here, lol.
I wore pants one day and was sent home to change because it wasn’t ‘sexy’ enough. Owner throws sketchy pool parties at his house with some of the servers and invites the regulars. Multiple of the regulars have zoomed in photos of the servers in their swimsuits saved on their phone. Many of the 55+ y/o regulars have offered servers high tips for sex.
Put up with a lot of blatant sexual harassment and management did nothing. Super trashy. I quit after 2 weeks.
It may not be directly related to under pouring but it definitely shows a pattern of behavior that makes it more believable they would under pour as a policy.
If I go to chili's with a large group and everyone is drinking , it's a disaster. If it's just a couple people or like a normal "family" dinner, no issues at all.
Downtown GV is too touristy, now getting those 34 pours like boomer jacks.. Chill is kinda ghetto, no?
Bobs, up the street has solid pours and the best food. $$$
Harvest hall bar has a solid pour.
Gloria’s margaritas will knock you on your ass.
Duffs wings & beer in SL
Tx live is a great sports bar.
HEB area has some really great options too.
Bob’s Steak and Chophouse. It’s up the street from the Grapevine Chill, which I think they assumed you were talking about. Not the Lewisville location.
I mean that kind of response to a review alone makes me not want to go, it would be one thing if you were being crude and profane or trolling but that’s incredibly unprofessional and immature.
I mean it's Chili's, come on. I am a little surprised that type of response, mostly because the corporate office is in Dallas, and that's pretty unprofessional. Probably best to not say anything at all, or a generic reply of "sorry for your experience however our bar staff follows strict guidelines" or some other bullshit. The other thing is most bartenders I've known go to other bars for a drink, not Chili's. Maybe a Applebee's if they know someone because they do have cheap ass drinks.
I went to the Chill in Lewisville a couple of times for lunch because it is near my work. We sat at the bar, it was not packed, but still took a while to get service. Bartenders too busy checking their Instagram and playing on their phones. Love the atmosphere of the bar, but very disappointed in the service.
I've never been to the one in Lewisville, but the one in Grapevine is fine. Never had an issue there. In fact, we're trying to decide where to meet up before the game today, and Chill is on the list.
I know that, but the goal here is to visit with friends to watch the Cowboys as I don't have cable. I know going out is expensive. I'm trying to determine if I should spend money here.
It’s a LOT harder to sail the seven seas for live sports with a DVR on a TV is all I’m saying too. If it were for that, I’d probably not have cable. Plus the ability to watch 4 games at one time with instant sound choices.
They were a client of mine when I sold ads for the Observer back in 2009ish and can confirm he's one of those fellas that comes across as super laid back and down to earth but is a fucking dick inside - writing checks for ads that bounced knowing that would be the case
I’ve been to the Lewisville location once for a quick drink. It was like any other bar that tried to out do themselves without to sexualize their wait staff ex. hooters, twin peaks, ojos locos etc.
It’s been years, but used to go to the one in Grapevine. It was fine, no issues. Granted, unless someone insists I rarely order shots, so don’t recall the volume in the shot glasses.
Chill is fine. I wouldn’t worry. In theory every place has their ways. Cost saving correct pours maybe is theirs. Really it’s chill, BJ’s, or BWW right there. I’d rather go… chill.
