Taxis in most (all?) British cities are regulated by their local councils, will have a 'cab plate' as well as a standard car registration. All that's needed is for two or three different folk to register a complaint about a particular driver, and the cab office will be having a word. If you genuinely observe dangerous driving, or breaches of traffic regulations, note the number and do an email

Have to admit I've only good experience from taxi drivers? What in particular make them bad? Dad driving? Bad routes? No conversation? Idk?

Personally, I've noticed 2 sides to taxi drivers, with passengers they generally will behave and not endanger the passengers, then there's without passengers where they seem to throw out all concerns and drive like they're in a Grand Prix.

Some are great, have been doing it for years. Have regulars and know the roads like the back of their hands. Many see it as a short gig, before doing something else. Some have been caught sharing the cab work with family.

This says a lot! Taxi driving is a skill and a career, you clearly have it, I too have my regular driver in my phone for 1m trips as well as airport runs etc. It's pretty clear seeing those just earning an extra few quid, getting in a cab and they asking directions or blindly following GPS etc.

Poor drivers are bad, but grumpy drivers are the worst. A couple times I got into a taxi and the guy started to make a fuss about traffic, complain about everything, insult other drivers, etc. Yeah, thanks mate for filling my day with misery... who doesn't need a bit more misery these days? Here's the £00,00 tip you earned. Next time maybe smile and shut the f up?

It's same as everything, the more you do it the more you get confident and lazy. This isn't just taxi drivers, it's all drivers. A lot of us will take a long time to get there, but we all will do something we "shouldn't".

I didn’t mind proper licensed cab drivers when I used to cycle a lot because they’d be aggressive but usually predictable. Uber drivers on the other hand - I’d have no clue what they were about to do. Though on Friday night my partner and I nearly got cleared out by a London black cab driver moving into our lane on the M25 without looking. Maybe their standards are slipping.

Probably a combination of impatience (to finish the job quickly), frustration (from years of dealing with the other shit drivers on the road) and selfishness (see first point). I agree though they’re some of the worst drivers I encounter while out driving or cycling, as are supermarket delivery drivers, probably for the same reasons.

To get their passengers from A to B as quickly as possible to net as many trips as they can to get paid probably. That said, all cars seem to overtake cyclists too closely despite the 6ft rule, I wouldn't say it's taxi exclusive. (I don't cycle, but it makes me nervous seeing other cars pass them so closely and I'm that annoying driver that will follow a cyclist for a while waiting for a comfortable overtake)

Most people get worse at driving the longer they drive. You end up getting more and more lazy and frustrated, which end up becoming bad driving.
