Does every country have a blind/soft spot for their own brands?

I noticed that the most sold car in a country tends to be their own domestic brand.
Americans buy Ford. Italians buy Fiat. Koreans buy Hyundai. French buy Peugeot. Etc, etc.
**BUT** the reputation of these cars vary so much around the world. I have heard jokes about bad aspects concerning all of the brands I mentioned.
Do you think every country ignores the faults out of a sense of patriotism?
