On Sundays at a cool arcade near me, you can buy a 10$ wristband and play video games, pool and pinball all day, the kids love it. A few months ago, my gf and I beat the 4 player Simpons arcade game! A feat I had never accomplished as a kid.
Pac-Man at a lot of arcades gives tickets now if you can clear the level and hit the “pac-pot.” I let the kids play whatever they want, but before we leave, I use whatever’s leftover in credits to play Pac-Man. I wreck it every single time. My kids love it because they get hundreds of tickets out of it.
Thanks to emulation I was finally able to play it to the end, all those quarters pumped into the machine back in the day I'm sure it was set to the highest difficulty., but it's a game I love to kick on when I got a few mins and just blast away.
It's a pipe dream to one day own original cabinets for the games I listed.
Though I haven't spent enough time looking to see if home use light gun tech has advanced to arcade level to work with LCDs.. tried to do it with a Wii mote and a dolphin bar but never got it to work just right. I'd like to play to beat Area 51 and a few others.
Good times.
A few years ago when I moved to a new area they had Cruisin USA in a local laundromat. I found every excuse I could to do my laundry as often as possible just so I could play it again.
I've always thought that Pole Position had the best feeling controls of any arcade game. The wheel just turned effortlessly and the awesome shift knob was fun. And then the pedal at the bottom. I loved it
I think it might have been the set down game. I have It For my Atari 130xe Computer the graphics are pretty close to the arcade. the controls are not as good
The state of U.S. arcades today makes sad, going to a packed arcade (a *good one*) during the 1980s or 1990s is an experience I wish I could have again. Now everything is choked with ticket redemption machines, or it's some sort of "Barcade" style place that I have no interest in. Dave & Busters was never my speed.
I spent my adolescence and early adulthood right down the street from Sunnyvale Golfland in California, which was essentially the headquarters of the west coast fighting game community. Many, many an afternoon was spent watching the best players do their thing and getting curb-stomped by them. I truly miss it.
There's a barcade in Austin called Pinballz. Used to take the kids probably 5 or 6 times a year. Would have gone more often but it gets spendy with 4 people playing games, having drinks, food, or playing laser tag. Favorite game? Cabinet wise probably Mortal Kombat or TMNT.
Umm yes. Every vacation we go to an arcade and they can play **whatever the fuck they want for however long they want**. Ski-ball is a huge family favorite, we love crane games and Galaga, crossyroads, Mario kart… but there’s this sick motorcycle racing game where you can have four people competing on these awesome bikes that lean back and forth to steer. That’s probably the one we played the most last time.
