christ almighty. they are going to need a hospital to extract the seats from the pilots and passengers. great reaction from the pilot, but I'd love to know what caused that massive swerve to begin with. brakes locked up on that side?

Near-total loss of thrust on the left engine. You're left with full thrust on one side and nothing on the other side. This pilot's reaction is outstanding. We used to practice this in the simulator and it's very hard to stay on the pavement. A loss at V1 is easier to deal with because you've got enough airflow over the rudder to provide pretty good directional control, but prior to rudder effectiveness it can be very sporty.

What's the correct rudder input for a failed left engine?

Right rudder. In the video there is a momentary (less that half a second) small rudder movement to the left, which is hard to explain, then all of the subsequent rudder movements are clearly to the right, which would be correct for a left engine failure. The rule of thumb is "step on the good engine".

lol..... that's a small rudder movement???? And the rudder is ineffective at 140 knots????? How the fuck did you get your CFI.

I dont know about that.....There is an awful lot of left rudder there just before the plane goes left.......

That's exactly the point, isn't it? A ton of rudder has no effect. There's not enough airflow over the control surface. The right engine easily overpowers it before it's brought back to idle. This happens in a fraction of a second. If you're a jet transport pilot, ask to try it next time you're in the simulator. If you're not, why are you commenting?

I've done a bunch of V1 and Vr cuts. There is PLENTY of rudder authority to overcome a single engine at full power. In fact the problem I had on my first couple was using TOO much rudder. The left rudder input just before they vear is massive and more than enough to cause the plane to vear to left like that. Especially since the abnormal behavior occurred at 140 knots, plenty of airflow over the control surface. Not to mention that the flight crew reported "abnormal behavior"... I've never described an engine failure as abnormal behavior and I have never heard a flight crew describe an engine failure as abnormal behavior, its just described as an engine failure. We don't know what happened but it is clear that there was a massive left rudder input before they veared left.

The rudder. You can see a massive left rudder input before it goes left.

The left reversers seem to be a LOT slower to deploy, wondering if that engine failed.

Yea, the pilots are also fully commiting to the right rudder. It is likely an engine failure.

After the massive left rudder that put them into the mess....

Blown tire during braking according to the link OP posted in the comments.

That's not really what it says. It says the tire burst during deceleration, which could easily have happened due to the shear stress during that skid, after whatever happened caused it to go off centerline.

Imagine it blowing during landing. Better this was found out before takeoff.

Although it pales in comparison (expect, perhaps, if you were in my seat), during my ppl training, my CFI aired up the right wheel when we discovered it was flat during pre-flight. Evidently, neither he nor I thought anything about it until I started to turn onto the right taxiway after a two hour flight. After unpuckering my behind and defending myself from the gentle but firm scolding for almost putting us in a ditch, we discovered the real problem - poor decision making. Glad it wasn’t a tail dragger.

I'm thinking the rejected the takeoff for some reason and a tire blew when they applied the brakes leading to the swerve. The swerve was not the reason for the rejected take off.

IF a tire blew (and the droop of the left wing after it straightens back out makes it seem so), it was after the initial swerve, not the cause of it. Either the brakes locked on the left side or it might have just been about to rotate and when the pressure came off the nose gear, it yawed left (crosswind?). But the tires don't smoke on the left before the swerve, so it makes it seem like it wasn't a locked up wheel.

Just before it swerves there is a large left rudder input.....

I went through something similar in a Cherokee, but I didn't do that well recovering. I ended up off the runway

Is that rudder going to need inspected for the hard inputs?

My butthole puckered just watching that, let alone being inside that

If you scrub the video the initial swerve left was preceded by a hard left rudder input. Why would a burst tire cause a rudder input?

Good eye. Looks like strong crosswind left to right. Maybe the right engine failed and the pilot gave appropriate left rudder for calm conditions, but was way overcontrol given the crosswind. Wild ride.
