Is the lack of nasty bugs/insects in the uk a good reason to live here?

I don’t mind a little spider, but scrolling through r/whatsthisbug made me very glad to live in the uk with its innocent little ladybirds and spiders I would seriously freak out if I found some of the larger bugs they have on that sub crawling around my house!

No. In fact, we used to have far, far more insects in this country. We don't naturally have low numbers of small insects; pesticides killed everything else off.

But did we ever have much nasty stuff? I'm aware biodiversity's gone down and that's not a good thing, but I'm not sure we ever had much in the way of e.g. deadly spiders, hornets, etc.

Not so many dangerous insects, but definitely dangerous mammals such as wolves and bears, but their populations were decimated over 1,000 years ago.
