At the FedEx facility I worked at, maintenance installed LED light bars on the roofs of the switchers to improve safety.
There were many altercations between drivers and switchers over it because, in a lot of cases, the dock would be waiting on the loads and needed to get them up asap so the switchers would wait for the driver to drop their trailers and immediately grab them. While they were waiting, they were blinding the driver. More than once, the altercations got physical.
Maintenance wired the light bars directly into the headlights so the switchers couldn't turn them off.
This all changed the night we had a dense fog roll into the lot and you could see these huge white glowing orbs creeping through the yard. The light bars were effectively blinding the switchers with their own lights.
The next week, switches were put in the yard trucks.
Last last night was like that.My favorite are the dipshits that pull off to the side of the road to go to sleep, and leave their brights on. Facing on coming traffic.
Are used to drive a Volvo. I was never as bad as those assholes when I had a Volvo truck. And if I was driving a truck with fog lamps. They were off when the sun came up.
Well, you’re not a numbnuts. You actually exhibit courteous behavior. Probably an old timer, am I correct? I have 28 and 1/2 years under my belt. Most guys with over 10 years get it.
I got just over 4 years under my belt, drive a while Volvo, and almost NEVER use my brights unless I'm on a back road and theres literally nobody in front of me that I can see. Even if they're a mile ahead, if I can see their taillights, my brights are off.
Lightbar, LEDs,high beams fog lamps here, if I even see a taillight or headlights I turn it all off and drive with reg brights till I’m in 1/2 mile and turn them off. I’m in my first year. The problem isn’t age, it’s courtesy. Also I know truckers who drive with glasses get it even worse. ( FYI I drive Al-Can highway at night dodging moose, bison, elk, bears and deer/caribou and wild horses hence why I have that amount of lights. Lot of the guys up here just don’t care though and it drives me nuts. Truckers and pickups.
I’m driving a Volvo now and the low beams are great. Night and day difference with previous trucks I drove before. I mean there is no reason to use the high beams at all in the Volvo tbh

My first truck was a 2018 Cascadia that used standard bulbs, I had to use the brights to see pretty much anything...
My 2021 Cascadia had the LED array, and it was so bright that there was zero need for high beams unless I just wanted more distance for visibility on deserted back roads... half the time, I didn't even realize I didn't have them on...
I'm a yard dog and my lights are hard wired to be on anytime my rig is on. I've definitely had complaints from drivers about my lights blinding them. It sucks but I'm also not going to stop working every single time another driver goes by. I'd never get my job done.
I should probably mention I have a 52' light bar on top of my rig as well. While it's aimed down there's absolutely no avoiding it lighting up everyone's cab. Some drivers will actually shield their face as they drive by. I must just be used to it because it doesn't bother me driving around the other yard dogs.
It’s light out. Why are any of his headlight/fog lights on? I can see running your markers all day(mine are on if the trucks on) but flipping to parking lights when the sun is up is just common sense.
I always turn my lights to marker lights only when someone is trying to park. I just figure it's courteous so they can see. Sadly, not many others do it in return.
Oh yeah, the last time I had to go through Nash in daylight with a truck I had to check my GPS and make sure I hadn't gone to ATL instead. It was awful. Basically a parking lot.
I turn my headlights off when someone is backing. If I'm still awake, I'll turn on the parking lights so they can easier guage a tight spot.
Dunno why most others don't do the same. No one trained me to do that. Just seems logical.

There is a special place in hell for people who put LEDs in a reflector housing.
At least they don't have a 4 foot light bar on the bumper blasting out a half million lumens. Seen more than a few of those blinding everyone else on the road.
Bright lights are why I sometimes forfeit a parking spot. I won't lie, if someone leaves their lights on and they irritated me while getting set up I'll just go park on a ramp or something.
it’s me. idk what day runners are. I do know that my headlights switch has a setting that idk what it is and never tested it out. i will see. i didn’t know regular lights could be disruptive in a yard/truck stop with the privacy curtains
If it's night and I'm driving, the headlights are on. Doesn't matter if it's at a truck stop or a yard. Don't give a fuck about the light getting in your cab. safety is more im0ortant
No which is why I use daylights+markers or stock fog Lights+markers for yard maneuvers. Bruh there's no need to give everybody a headache or hurt their eyes because the White Columbia/pre 2018 Volvo Mafia likes probably illegal LED mods...
Use your headlights if you want I guess Hand, just try to avoid the highbeams in the Truck stops and yards is all we are asking.
And unnecessarily shining lights into another trucks cabin while they are doing a backing maneuver would be unsafe. The irony in your comment is overwhelming but go ahead and keep being a twat.
People are straight up not understanding. They just want to want be mad. If I'm driving through a truckstop parking lot, my headlights are on, so others driving around can see me. If you're parked, I don't give a shit if it bothers you. Close your blinds or some shit, I'm not sacrificing being visible to others because someone is slightly inconvenienced
If the fog lights a correctly set for the beams to go in a downward direction, there's no issue. Usually when they're replaced, the driver wants them as 'road lights' they get adjusted to look like high beams. This is where the problem is. There's really no such thing as 'road lights ' that's what headlights are for...
I'm a 4 wheeler and was getting tailgated by a new Volvo and I couldn't see shit. I pulled to the shoulder to let him go by and flashed my lights. Dude proceeded to turn his rear lights on and slow down to a crawl.
I've noticed a lot of trucks with decorations in thier windshields.... and drivers from the side of the world just drive with thier fucking high beams on. Even worse is the fuckers that do high beams and the shitty lughtbars that just put light out in all directions. Like ahhhh yes I love showing people the sun at midnight. I wonder why they flash thier lights at me!? They must be thanking me.
The lost art of being courteous by killing your lights while the person backs into a spot. But on the flip side. So many drivers don’t even bother to turn their hazards on before they swing out to start to back into a spot.
Rule of thumb: the white lights are for you, the yellow and red ones are for everyone else.
I turn off my headlights in lit yards and use flashers at night.
I was in my vehicle the other night and I met and oncoming motorist that had very bright white lights, I flashed him twice with my high beams and nothing so when we met I turned my high beams on and left them on.
The oncoming vehicle whips over to the shoulder and spins around, and on come the flashing blue and red lights.
It was a sheriff.
I pull over right away, shut my car off turn on my interior lights, he walks up and says the reason I stopped you was a failure to dim to and coming vehicle. I told him he had his brights on... No, I didn't, yes you did, back and forth we went.
I did not get a citation.
After it was all said an done he admitted that I wasn't the only one that had flashed him and that maybe he should take it in and have them adjusted.
It’s not even dark outside. I hate when people do this. I remember backing into a somewhat tight dock late at night. Box truck in front of me (this place wasn’t meant for 53 footers) had his high beams on. I asked him to turn them off since he’s just sitting in his truck getting loaded / doing paperwork. Told me no. I GOAL about 10 times. Finally got it in. Dude immediately left. I swear they love messing with us.
I parked at the Loves Travel in Baldwin, Florida. And after I got back in. I got out the truck to let the US Xpress Driver know that, it was hard for me to see because of his bright ass headlights He claimed he had done a post trip inspection and forgot to turn them off. He was sitting in the driver seat when I was backing in. there’s no way in hell he didn’t know it’s headlights were on.
