Boarding School - the facts of life

Did any of my fellow Gen X (especially 60's and early 70's) attend Boarding School? If so how old were you when you started attending (5 day or 7 day)?, country and was it coed or single gender? I started an American west coast all girl school when I was 8, left that one when I was 14 and graduated from a coed east coast boarding school, 7 day boarder. If you did attend which Facts of Life character closely resembled you..I guess I would have been Natalie Gen X - 67

Boarding school outside of Boston after my freshman year, so '91-'93. It was a progressive school so very co-ed and a lot of fun, as high school goes. Saved my life.

It struck me as impossibly out of any expectations I could harbor--so firmly in the realm of wealth it didn't even come up except as a TV show. (Ie, fantasy) The rich kids in my town weren't Silver Spoons level wealthy, but they all went to the Catholic schools as a mark of being 'better' than us.

Same where I grew up. I thought it was snobbery. But later on, I found out that a lot of the rise in Catholic schools (in Louisiana, anyway) was in response to the desegregation of public schools.

never attended boarding school, but i liked the idea of uniforms so much i basically wore one to school every day regardless from about 8th grade on - black shirt, black pants, black boots. No visible logos or writing on them. I also kept my hair cut in a specific style. This saved me a lot of embarrassment later because it never fell into any clothing fads or such, and since it was a very modes outfit it fit in almost anywhere.

It would of if I had not begun exhibiting signs of mental illness when I turned 11, which in turn, steam rolled my life until my mid 40's. That is a whole other thread.
