Read all the data- factual- theoretical or not- and then decide. All the Polar bears should have been dead by now. The ice caps gone in the early 90’s - the sun should have scorched the Earth by now based off most studies.
Don’t doom and gloom yourself into depression and anxiety. Plant life and grow life- and take care of what you’re responsible for.
The climate is clearly changing- but dont live your life fretting over models created by people with an agenda- both sides have an agenda- and science isn’t clean.
Funding finds funded results.

You’re all the same. You don’t like it- so you silence voices. Climate scientists have determined 20 fold times what was going to happen if we didn’t act “now.” It never happens. You are participating in the lie- instead of lifting these “ victims” out of their depression.
Edit to add: polar bear numbers are higher than they have been in 50 years.
This is misinformation. You should get banned.

Be a well rounded person and seek many experiences. If we die you'll be glad for them, if we don't you will be better equipped for whatever comes.
Live your best life and be prepared.
You do what you can, i'm 28 and I know my future won't be long, but fuck it. Many kids don't get to see their future either because of some disease. Live while you can, that's all you can do.
I disagree, desalinization is just around the corner. We have the technology to desalinate a large amount of water currently, but the problem is it takes a lot of energy. With our advancements in energy technology I don't think that a large amount of desalinization is more than 10 years out
Can't we leave the oceans alone? I'm not sure that taking the water out of the ocean and putting the salt back in is going to do great things for the fish folk.
I recently found out about a new way that they discovered to harvest water via evaporation over the ocean. No desalination needed. No brine to get rid of. The water's going to evaporate out of the ocean anyway and there is no way we can catch so much of it that we affect the weather patterns.
But if we remove it from the water cycle without removing the salt, then it's the same effect.
Even prolonging how long water takes before it completes the cycle reduces how much is in the ocean at any given point in time and would increase salinity.
As for not being able to affect weather patterns, to be honest, I don't believe that. Dilution was the solution until it wasn't - all actions have effects, only sufficiently small actions have insignificant effects. However Jevon's Paradox teaches us if given an inch, we will take a mile. When small actions work we proceed to perform bigger actions. All of the water that would eventually need to be gathered to fuel all of the industries that need it would be a substantial amount with significant effects - yet given the option that's exactly what we have proven we will do.
You don't understand. The water is going to evaporate anyway. That's what it does. That's how we get clouds and rain in the first place. It's the water cycle and it's a natural process. There is technology now that can catch a tiny fraction of a percent of that evaporated water. No need to worry about brine as there is no brine being produced. Water evaporates off the ocean all day every day and has as long as there has been an ocean.
Like I said, if you extend the cycle then you reduce the amount of water in the ocean at any given point in time. There's no free dinners. Also that evaporated water is serving an important function by ferrying heat around the atmosphere and keep weather patterns stable. Ish.
Which parts specifically? Droughts are definitely going to cause mass migration and political instability like in Syria, but that's mostly because the agricultural lifestyle collapses during drought. How do you picture people fighting over the water supply, and where do you picture this happening?
the problem is going to be industry's needs for water, not individuals. Like a paper mill uses something like 12 to 25 million gallons of fresh water a day.
Listen looking after yourself might give you a longer life but you know what it's a longer life at the end of your life it's a difference between living from 84 to 86. You don't get extra years between 30 and 35. Taking care of yourself doesn't give you 30A 30b 30C and then 31 in years. You get extra years at the end of your life when you have the least capacity to use them. So enjoy your life now while you still can.
An epiphany I've had is that the stuff we have available everyday is actually fiction-level luxury. We should *never* get used to it. We should appreciate it for the extreme anomaly it actually is.
What we have is fucking magic. Make a wish and it comes true. It's so nuts that it's difficult to process.
The cost is our civilization; our geological epoch. With a price like that (and already paid) failing to engage with the debauchery is like cosmically wasteful.
If nothing else, attempting to remember the baseline and staying with the awe (and horror) seems meaningful to me.
Exactly. The way I see it, there are two routes. You can act like a crazy person and try to fight it, or you can just relax and enjoy existing to its fullest, until we all like, die in a riot over water or some dumb shit. I try not to think about that part.
Every person commenting here was going to die anyway, nothing has actually changed
You know how when you read in history books about wars, it will say something atronomical like "30 million died in X war"
Think about that number, 30 million. Thats a LOT of people. This kind of collapse / mass death / mass problem stuff has been happening for the entirety of life's existence, and it probably won't ever stop happening.
So just enjoy the best technology mankind has created, nothing lasts forever
Right- without industrialization and advancements in many fields- medical included- we would all be dead by 30-45.
Industrialization and modernization and yep- capitalism has raised the standard of life for billions- and guarantees longer life.
If anyone wants to combat that- they should remove themselves from the equation at 30-45. Or be thankful and try to improve where the other GREAT things failed at.
The Planet has seen and survived many extinction level events. It will be here after us- and then millions of years longer. Water-snow-fire-ice-sand…..on and on and on. Its been covered- its been beaten- its being better taken care of now than ever before. Agreed- we can and must do better, but everyone here will be just fine- they wont die because it becomes inhabitable. Unless of course the poles switch- but we cant cause that.
I can. This group is here over-inflate, lament invisible things, mourn things they have no idea will die(polar bears numbers are climbing,) and contribute it all to Capitalism and industrialization. All things that made their lives better.
Tell a person that wasn’t to be miserable that they’re fine- and they hate you.
Tell them climate change sucks and you want to fix it- but we aren’t actually all doomed- and they hate you.
Don't do that to yourself. We're all in it, some try to pretend it's not here and some like us know what's coming. Enjoy the time you have with your kids, love them and do the things you wanted to do. Life is (litterly) to short for you to spend it thinking what might go wrong.
I’m trying! I really am. I meditate and practice mindfulness. I have a good balance for the most part but these are almost intrusive thoughts. Sneaky and pervasive.
I know I’m doing my best and my kiddos are truly loved and happy. I feel such a weight though. Like I’m keeping the biggest most awful secret ever. It hurts my heart to think about what they will say when they realize how things really are. How they will look at me.
I’ve accepted that as a species we are just as dumb as algae when it comes to consumption.
I just feel so guilty I didn’t realize how things are before I had them. It kills me to imagine them scared and/or in pain.
What if the grid goes down and we have 122 degree weather in a couple summers and the grid goes down? What if we end up experiencing violence as our city deteriorates under economic collapse? What if what if…
I know it’s not my privilege to know how we will die. I know I’ve done my best with the knowledge I’ve had at the time. I know they are happy and loved right now. I know worrying won’t change things.
But damn if it doesn’t weigh heavy on my heart that they aren’t going to get the life they deserve.
Thanks for listening.
Hey friend, just wanted to let you know you're not alone. It's why we are all here. It may help to invest in a solar-powered ac unit. It's a tiny investment with how things are going to be in 5-10 years. We are getting a fully solar ac installed this year and it's going to cost a little over 4k with labor included. Save a bit here and there if you need, there are also portable solar ac units, and get a tent. The smaller the space you need to cool the better.
Thank you. I did need to vent about this and I appreciate the feedback kind strangers have for me. I appreciate the practical advice as well.
A friend and coworker helped me brainstorm what I’d want in an EDC and it’s been so helpful to have something tangible I can micromanage. It helps me with the urge to need to act and gives me some peace that I’m doing my best.
Thank you again.
You're doing just fine buddy.
Enjoy the time you have left.
Experience things you want to.
Do NOT wait for the dreams you have to have a shot at them.
The most precious commodity we have these days is time.
Use it wisely.
Be surrounded with loved ones and experience joy.
Have no regrets when the end comes.
I try to do the same, and it's been serving me fine so far.
We cannot do things about the global collapse of society.
Only thing that can result of it is anxiety and isolation.
Over things you cannot control.
There is essentially no point pondering about these things.
Keep your head up high. You can do this
No, sentiments like this are just ridiculous. Climate change is awful but there is no science to support the idea that we're all going to die in a few decades.
Can you imagine the awkward gathering of the 1% after we are all already dead and they are in their bunker where money means nothing now? Oh, to be a mutated fly on the wall…
[They are already concerned about keeping the hired help in their places when money ceases to mean anything](https://www.theguardian.com/news/2022/sep/04/super-rich-prepper-bunkers-apocalypse-survival-richest-rushkoff).

Some solutions I've heard are holding families hostage, shock collars and bomb vests that the BSD must enter a code into periodically. (BSD = Big Swinging Dick)
Maybe implant a small explosive or spring loaded capsule under the skull which will have a small explosion when triggered with right frequency radio waves.. /s
Actually I saw a similar device in a movie once..
this topic is so fucking insane and absurd but it's also interesting to see the ones most responsible realize that they can't run or hide from the mess they're making in the name of profits
Even today, what exactly is the rich person's plan if 30 people walk up to the front door of their mansion and decide to live their? And the same thing happens at houses in their entire neighborhood?
If it makes you feel any better, the wealthy men will probably be disposed of by their employees and guards and their wives and daughters will be turned into maids (at best or Nicholas IIed at worse).
Gentle sounds good. Pretty sure when things get violent they’ll point millenials like we’re the boomers and start attacking us for our food and shelters and screaming how we ruined everything for them. So… imma just gentle the shit out of this.
Also: i absolutely hate that zoning wont let me build the earthship i’ve wanted to live in since 2008. I cant legally live in a tiny house on my own land. I’m not even *allowed to camp on my land more than 10 days* . Because i’ll be fined out of existence. 🤬
All i can do is permaculture my ass off. That’s it- and that’s only because it’s *zoned agricultural*. Like WHAT?!?!
Not even worth bothering. They’ll make it such bs it wont be worth it. I had to get a lawyer just to get an address, it was a stupid thing that should have been free and somewhat easy to obtain. It wasnt
City/township ordinances cut both ways it was a bit of a fight but its how I've been able to rezone one my rentals into a two family. Everything is published somewhere.
The smallest i can build is ‘1000’ sq ft and have to have electricity and septic. I personally want a compost toilet and a solar panel to charge my phone and a few LEDs. I dont see them allowing it since michigan is super strict on squarefootage of home rooms and ect. It would definitely be a slog that would take a long time and either lawyers or getting them to be cooperative for once
Why are you chasing a home? What are your rules for a shed, garage or storage unit?
The city is gonna have bare minium requirements for a home just because they don't want some landlord to be abusive if there's no bare minium, so you'll need to look at it a little differently.
Forever grateful that while I may live in one of the shiftiest states in the US, at least there are only two cities in my entire county that has any zoning. Everywhere else, including the town I live, has no zoning. Residential, commercial, whatever. They don’t care.
No i'm going gentle way. Begging for food and water in hopes to survive a week in an awful enviroment knowing the future will go downhill fast. It'd be different if were for a few months, this shit isn't going to get better. Might aswell enjoy the few years we have left.
I feel the same way my man. We don't have long before things start to get really hard for a lot of people. And it won't be long after that before people start dying off in droves from heat and loss of food and water. Then the wars. I'm going to sit fat and happy for the next 10 years and just do what I want. Just bought a new pc today, blew my whole paycheck on it. Yeah it's not responsible or whatever but who cares, it's not like I'll lose everything; my paychecks are mostly fun money anyways, not like I'll need a retirement.

Damn that meme resonates hard with me. I’m 41. In my 30ths I was much more health focused. I even finally kicked my alcohol addiction. Now, I’m still trying to stay in shape and pretty active. But that mostly just because I am vain and I get bored super easily. I’m no longer doing the amount of exercise I did in my 30ths and I’m eating less healthy. Especially when it comes to sweets and desserts. The way I see it is I might as well enjoy sweets while they’ve available, because I think in the not to distant future I’ll probably eating bugs to try to survive.
I find it interesting that plants do not produce cellulases, so they cannot use their cellulose walls as an energy store despite it being made out of sugars.
Algae don't have that problem, since some of them can both anabolize and catabolize cellulose, but then, algae are an extremely diverse group and many of them blur the line between eukaryote and prokaryote.
Lols, you can. My grandma has cut my hair (f) since 2008 and i realized i can just cut it off blindly with scissors and put it in a pony tail: people literally couldnt tell unless it was down (almost never down). It’s saved me a lot of money.
Grandma couldnt stand the unevenness which is why she does it, but i’d just go right back to cutting it if she didnt
I (40something f) started shaving my hair during lockdown. #8 wahl clippers. I’d always wanted to do it so I did. Now I just do it cuz I can’t be arsed to get it cut. Sometimes I let it grow a bit and think I’ll go and get it cut properly, but I still can’t be arsed and end up shaving it. Lately have started bleaching it and colouring it cuz I’ve discovered I’m not allergic to La riche semi permanent like I am a lot of other dyes. I am enjoying the amount of dont-give-a-shit being a 40-something doomer widow brings tbh.
That's been the silver lining of going bald for me. I didn't like getting haircuts anyway and now I can just shave my head and trim my beard at the same time, it doesn't take too long and I save a good amount of money too :)
I started doing this too during lockdown, same size clippers and everything. It's sooo nice to just decide, "This shit is annoying me" and shave it all off. I reasoned that it's just hair and eventually it'll grow back, I've got some real cute handkerchiefs and such to wear if it looks terrible.
Haven't started the dying part yet but I probably will here in a few months. I'm trying to fool myself into thinking I'll have the patience to let it grow out right now so one day I can get my Bettie Bangs back.
Best hair cut I ever had was in the middle of Algonquin Park. Got pine gum in my hair so I put it up in a pony tail and my wife cut it with my pocket knife about half an inch above the elastic. The sawing gives it a nice feather.
I haven't paid for a haircut in over a decade lol. I either use clippers myself, or sometimes I'll just hack off the sides with scissors.
I just really can't be bothered to go to a salon. I have collapse posts to scroll through!
I actually like working out, though, probably even more now in my 40s. Plus, I'm building up that old man strength and my traumatic childhood might be useful in the future when I'm forced to join a gang of rogues for my survival.
I've decided I want to die hot. I'm very early 30s and looking like the right-side. But I'm gonna be 40 and lookin' like the left. Keep setting goals. I don't know when the end is coming. Matthew 24:36
I've lost 15lbs so far.
Oh yeah, while I'm not a huge fan of BMI - I am exactly in the middle of 'normal' weight now according to it. Blood Pressure still high for some reason - looking into that. :D
I have bipolar disorder and am turning 30 in about two months. Average life expectancy (skewed by some obvious but very relevant issues) is about mid-60s. That thought really recently got me down, along with, well... Everything discussed in this sub.
Recently I've been doing intensive CBT and education-based group therapy. I'm not feeling at all more optimistic than before about the planet and humankind's future, but I'm feeling better about myself and my abilities. Setting goals, some that are part of survivalism skills and some that are just for fun skills I want to enjoy while I still can.
Therapy and health are hard AF especially when you're currently going through it... But I really hope that things look better soon in any small way for anyone reading this.
Good health is priceless no matter what the times, but I too make sure to also enjoy myself and treat myself to things I enjoy just in case (plus self care amirite)
There is a firm difference between enjoying yourself with a break and treats and active self-destruction. Especially when you have had or still do suffer from an eating disorder. Recognizing limits, rest, and moments of joy will help you want to live longer.
I know collapse-aware people can come to this conclusion. I suppose I did.
1. Good health etc makes you feel better today, not just when you are in your 50's/60's/70's etc.
2. Part of feeling good today for me means trying as much as possible, to adhere to the Buddhist principal of 'cause least harm'.
I draw lines with this that I am perfectly comfortable with. I will do what I need to do to preserve my own life: nature IS red in tooth and claw.
I'd love to contribute to producing less CO2 but unless everyone's doing it, you're just inconveniencing yourself.
I currently prefer to drive everywhere and I eat a lot of meat, but I'd vote *for* policies mandating being environmentally conscious and vegan, because then we collectively *would* make a difference.
If someone's vegan/no waste for moral reasons right now, they're kinda just inconveniencing themselves. If it brings them joy, great, but it's still not fixing the moral issue. The same amount of animals will be slaughtered, the same amount of awful fuel will be burnt on cruises, you just can't enjoy a chicken nuggie, a chicken nuggie that's gonna exist whether you're vegan or not.
I don't hate people for buying their pets either (unless it's a horrifically mutated breed like pugs), because that puppy/kitten/whatever was gonna be brought into the world anyway and someone *else* was just gonna pay for it. *Drop in the ocean.*
Again, I'd be all for policies banning breeding/sale, but until then if I want to drop too much money on my specially chosen puppy, I'm gonna. Beaufort (my pup) would've made his breeders money anyway, whether he went to me or someone else.
This sort of mentality only makes sense if you view acting selfishly and immoral for oneself as the best way to live. You are in effect arguing that one should only care about doing the right thing if other people care about doing the right thing. What you fail to understand is that some people care about doing the right thing irrespective of what others think. They care about their own personal impact and do not want to be seen as part of a group that cares nothing for animals/the environment. It has nothing to do with "if everyone did this" and everything to do with how they want to live their own lives following their own principles.
But your opinion is not unusual, it is the way that 90%+ think which is why we are in the situation we're in now. Governments not going to mandate something the vast majority of people don't want - you need individuals fighting for it first. You're never going to bring about any real change if your first instinct is to follow the herd. This may come as a surprise to you but some people receive great fulfillment from being kind to others and protecting the planet - regardless of how many other people are doing it.
Oh I'll very much fight for it. Like I said I'd vote for these theoretical governmental policies.
If I could I'd go to protests trying to make the policies happen.
I'd just drive there.
Fighting entails more than just showing up, throwing in some haphazard vote, and then going home. You have to actually be a part of the change. You can go vegan right now and help the fight on that front. However I already know the excuses for why you won't, I've heard them hundreds of times and you're not different from many other people. But it isn't exactly hard to see why no one will look fondly upon your way of thinking and consequently, you.

The problem isn't individuals. The problem is corporations. Until we can convince corporations to change their behavior there's really no point in changing yours. You do not have as much of an impact on the environment as a mega corporation does.
It's a bit unrealistic, isn't it? Thinking that the solution is a government forcing unwilling people to go vegan, as if that sort of government would last longer or be fair in its wielding of power. The only way that can work is if people are already willing to go vegan, at which point you wouldn't need to legislate it. We need *more* drops in the ocean before anything can happen, not less.
The vegan one is a bigger stretch than environmentally friendly, I'll admit that.
That said, were I able bodied I'd be at places protesting for the environment and animal rights. I'd just drive there and probably eat something haram on that day, too. Sounds antithetical but I'd be there in favour of widespread change that would stop me driving and eating those things, I just wouldn't have to "suffer" for lack of a better word to be there. No one should have to martyr themselves.
A change from government level is the only access to these "better" lifestyles that some people have. I'm autistic and poor; the nice vegan stuff is expensive and the cheap vegan stuff that you can make with a buncha herbs and spices and things isn't palateable to me.
In some places public transport is nil or expensive and the only job folks can get is far from their home, so they need a vehicle to get there. There are food deserts that only offer the most basic of standard foodstuffs, ie no fresh fruit and vegetables, no tofu, no soy milk, and it's all wrapped in plastic.
Government policy could make these things more accessible.
Unfortunately because of my personal situation, the satisfaction of living cruelty and waste free would be vastly outweighed by the cost, both economically and physically. The body keeps the score, after all.
> No one should have to martyr themselves.
Arbitrary idealism... No change happens without martyrs. What should be and should not be is, sadly, irrelevant.
Where there are no martyrs there are only victims.
> A change from government level is the only access to these "better" lifestyles that some people have.
"Better" lifestyles have larger footprints. This kind of government action wouldn't save anyone. It's the whole reason beef is artificially cheap and vegan food is artificially expensive. It's why plant milk has to deal with artificial handicaps in the market. We need the opposite of more people with "better" lifestyles; we need more of the population to carry their fair share of the burden. It wouldn't provide everyone access to bourgeois privileges, but ultimately it would improve the proletariat's quality-of-life.
I won't comment any further than that, because you made your comment rather personal and voicing any of more my opinions would be too easily misconstrued as a personal attack. My criticisms of society have nothing to do with you as an individual and I don't want to give the impression that they do. I have no ill will. Instead I will simply say that even though I sympathize deeply with your plight, I must also adamantly disagree about how you weigh benefits, costs, and responsibilities as it relates to collapse.
We would need a collective shift of mindset. People have been indoctrinated into the cult of consumption for their entire lives so anyone who suggests "let's slow down and eat less meat" is going against a paradigm that's been in place for hundreds of years. To swim against the current is difficult and tiring. It goes against what we've been incentivized to believe and do. And anyone who does swim against the current has no reward beyond the sense of "doing good", which makes it hard to convince everyone to do the same thing, even as it becomes more and more necessary for mitigating the damage we're doing. So like, I get it, I probably indulge in consumption more than I need to, but it *is* hard to stop a behavior when everything in your local environment and social group is pressuring you to continue BAU.
Ultimately I feel like humanity as a collective is at the mercy of processes that started long ago. Such a mindset shift necessary for humanity to collectively value the environment and live in harmony with ecosystems would take decades. Maybe after collapse.
I definitely know that. It's cyclic, for sure, but I'm one nobody out of 8 billion and the world's (read: governments) made it hard enough as it is to live *without* being conscious of animals and the environment.
If I could, I would.
Yeah I don't have any positive outlooks for the future, but I started exercising regularly last year, and it has helped ne feel the best I have in a long time, looking better and feeling so much better about myself, even if for naught I've found more gratification in being disciplined with myself than just indulging.
I love how they can't decide if
A) The climate is changing but it's natural and nuttin to do wit us
Or
B) The climate isn't changing at all ("Look at all that snow!!!1)
Also CO2 isn't changing the climate, that's ridiculous it's just a bit o gas lads BUT it is actually REALLY good for plants and will, like, super green up the Earth and grow us an embarrassment of agricultural produce. We should totally pump more into the atmosphere.
By the way, climate change is just a giant globally organized hoax between governments, scientists and, [apparently](https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2023/01/harvard-led-analysis-finds-exxonmobil-internal-research-accurately-predicted-climate-change/#:~:text=Specifically%2C%20Exxon%20projected%20that%20fossil,has%20been%20proven%20largely%20accurate.) ExxonMobil to err...raise taxes and sell books I guess? Maybe I'm just a simpleton but I feel like there must be some kind of much easier way for governments to justify raising taxes.
Shit. I couldn't even do that if I wanted to.
My parents raised me with the food pyramid of fast food, anything processed food, sugar (sugar sugar sugar), dairy, cheese and meat. Let me tell you, by the time I was able to break away and start learning to feed myself (20s), the damage was already done and I'm 33 now allergic to anything that even TOUCHES gluten, dairy and eggs. Like literally my skin will feel like it's on FIRE and fire ants are attacking me under my skin. Never mind what sugar fkn does to my blood sugar and body. I have restless leg syndrome. Had a stroke. My teeth are fucked. I get sick ALL THE TIME.
Yeah. No. I don't recommend it. It's horrible. Eat fkn healthy. Because, with how capitalism has absolutely FKD our food supplies and chain (pesticides, Monsanto, sugar in everything, high fructose corn syrup, dirty water supplies, all the banned crap that shouldn't be in it, etc), you don't want to end up in my body. I don't recommend it.
How’re you going to survive the water wars if you’re out of shape? Gotta start that Mad Max workout or you’re going to get wrecked by the first half-life war-boys that come to raid your camp.
Jokes aside, let that sink in - things are going *so* bad that they're giving up on their goals and even their will to live because they have good reason to think it's all going to be useless.
FWIW I'm still trying to get in better shape - I doubt I will ever look as good as Thor but it'd be nice to see something close to a six pack in the mirror before getting obliterated.
Everything else?
Staying afloat is fine, but no long-term plans and most important **no kids** - I'd rather be busy trying to help those of us who are already facing the horror instead.
Oh well. I’m looking after myself because I don’t want to fall into hedonism. I guess that there is a lot of ways to deal with the collapse. I still want to be the best version of myself everyday, not for my future me, but for my current me.
Maybe I won’t have a tomorrow; there isn’t jobs, we can’t afford an apartment, we can’t have children. I have a today. And today I’m stronger than yesterday, I’m better. That makes me feel good. That’s enough for me.
I’m already accepting that I’m going to be gunned down because I existed within sight of an elderly person or drove on the street and made someone mad, even before we get to the really icky part of climate change.
I’m enjoying these last few years of being able to get a hamburger on any street corner. I’ve known it’s not long for this world since last decade , and the price hikes have vindicated this.
Climate change is not going to kill you. You'll be fine. At worst it will diminish a person's lifetime earnings by like 10%, which is problematic but not the end of the world.
Just be grateful you have good health.
Try mid teens vs late teens and idk whether to feel good about having the prime years in fuck it before kicking the bucket mode, sure prime years but us all dieing sooner kinda blows my midlife hopes
Ss: do we still do these for casual Friday? Anyway. Seeing the data out this week on the surface temperatures of the oceans really sent me on a downward spiral. Please be like me and enjoy the time we have left to the fullest.
I mean, I think that’s how I have come to accept things. Might as well enjoy that jet fueled vaca because me having an electric car and composting is not going to do anything at this point.

It's probably not a good policy to assume your life will end in a few years. There's a lot of inertia in the system. Actual massive wide scale ugliness doesn't have to happen that quick, there will be a shit ton of copium and such for years to come. Live well now and enjoy the ride as long as it lasts.
There isn't a whole lot keeping me here long term once my parents are gone, and they only have a few decades left at best. A healthy life means I'll get to live 30 extra years featuring decay and pain.
I believe in reincarnation; I'll think about living healthy on my second run.

Related to collapse because this level of hopelessness will discourage those of us who've actually tried to make a difference over the last few decades to continue doing so, hastening our inevitable demise.
