Is it true that Scottie and Adam didn't get along, or that they hated each other?

I heard that Scottie was largely behind the idea to rig the golden idol with the electric cattle fence, and that Adam's reaction to that prank offscreen wasn't 'family friendly' (to be more accurate, I read that he was livid), and that you don't see Scottie in any of the episodes that were filmed after that event. I think there was a producer that encouraged Scottie to do it that was also let go from that incident.

I heard this shock prank was pushed by a content director for her, and some others, to do. Jamie was a bit of a wanker over getting shocked. Scottie got the fallout from it. I thought she was cool. Never did care much for the "stash" and his attitude.

Someone corrected me in that it was Adam who got shocked. I thought he'd be more laid back than reacting.

I just watched the ep, March 23 2005, cooling a six pack, the b team made some weak Baghdad batteries, but were pushed by a producer to hook up the transformer from an electric fence to it, and then lie to Adam's face.
He directly asks them if it's a transformer or just the Baghdads, and tori and kari chime in that it's not the transformer, and Adam gets a seriously unpleasant shock. BTW, the whole b team had tried it and reacted the same way. Very shitty of them

Agree: Not cool all around.

I really can't see Kari the same way after watching it, she not only laughs after he gets shocked, she continues the bit by asking if he "saw the gods." She just seems really fake to me now.

Hopefully they all were just trying to maintain calm under pressure of filming. After shocking my poor younger brother when we were kids, I don't do anything prank-wise like that unless I'm willing to do it to myself, and then only with much caution.
I surprised a co-worker once by touching his ear from behind, and he just about came unglued. :-) Very unexpected angry response. I'm older and wiser now in good ways.

I just watched it again, and while tori is reading the room and looks chagrined, kari (who never got shocked) and scottie still have huge smiles on after adam is clearly pissed and in pain. kari even asks "did you see god?" really cringe. she seems really just like a typical fake host to me after watching that. not a lot of depth there, she's around to be "the girl" and look cheerful.
and yeah, touching an ear is startling, and def a little pain, but it's not like being punched across the chest. the electric fence transformer is meant to stop cattle.
The early seasons are really before it got good. once they got some popularity and got rid of mr. reality bullshit, peter rees (and yeah, i get he was instrumental in creating it, but i can't stand "reality" garbage tv), the show takes on the proper tone.
seriously, it's cool to watch the chopper shows build cars and bikes, but who wants to see them stop everything and yell at an intern for losing some aluminum paste or w/e the hell it was? actual west coast chopper episode. also? you don't have extra?

Scottie actually got shocked by it too. Seems like a BS reason to get rid of Scottie. I love Grant, but I wish Scottie would have stayed around too.
TheRealJones1977@reddit
Jaime didn't get shocked by that.

Hmm, I thought had I read that. Do you have more info on this?

I stand corrected! Thank you! I apologize for that. Adam did.
Here's the real story:

I mean it WAS a cattle prod. Like there's funny electrocution and then there's actually painful or dangerous.
BAXterBEDford@reddit
I've had the pleasure of leaning up against an electrified fence. It's no fun.
gravity_inverted@reddit
Me to. Not really that horrible, but memorable.
gravity_inverted@reddit
Do cows drop over dead from them? it's mostly a fear people have about getting shocked. If you've ever worked on guitar tube amps, most other shocks are nil., unless they have amperage (and voltage) to back it up.

I only noticed it on a recent rewatch of some early episodes but there was a lot of what seemed like manufactured drama in the early seasons. I think Discovery was having big hits with shows like American Chopper which were build shows with drama and yelling. So they tried the same style with Mythbusters, before it really found its own style.

Yes, I agree 100%, they were following the standard recipe for reality shows. There must be some form of tension between the participants.
I've been watching all the episodes again, in a sequence from the beginning, and it becomes pretty obvious that those were manufactured by the producers.
As for Scottie, she didn't really fit. When the show first started I used to watch it whenever I could and had a crush on her, because I thought she was so pretty despite the tattoos. However, when Kari started appearing in the Build Team the difference between them was huge. Scottie seemed a bit awkward and insecure, Kari was a natural.
There was an episode when Adam asked her if she could weld a fitting to a pipe, her answer was "I've built bridges bigger than that". Then when they took the contraption to be filled with propane it leaked. I don't know if that was scripted or not, but Adam didn't ask her to fix it, he did it himself with super glue and epoxy.

Wtf does your crush on her or anyone on the show have to do with any of this? And despite the tattoos? People don’t need to not have tattoos in order to be attractive. Muppet. Hope the 4 years since you wrote this have been enough to grow up.

I hope you’ve started doing breathing exercises and taking blood pressure meds in the past two years
