Do you consider Bulgaria to be a Mediterranean country? Geopolitically and/or culturally? What about Romania?

I know that geographically they fall within the Mediterranean basin countries, but people rarely think of these two geopolitically or culturally as Mediterranean countries. Or in popular culture, no one says 'i want to visit a Mediterranean country ' and has Bulgaria in mind.

Uhhh, no. I only consider countries with a Mediterranean coast Mediterranean. Is Portugal culturally Mediterranean-like? Yes. Is it Mediterranean? No.

That's technically true, but has it ever been about geography? I mean, Turkey is 100% mediterranean by geography, but not so much culturally. Any North-African country is also mediterranean, but in a wholly different way. Therefore, mediterranean is a fluid term that reflects the geography, history, culture, food, language, politics etc.

Turkey is not homogenous in terms of culture and way of living, culture change as you travel through different regions. So if we are talking about mediterranean coasts of Turkey yes it is culturally mediterranean just as any other country with a coast to mediterranean sea
Denstag@reddit
People who lives in Mediterranean coast of Turkey, not mediterranean culturally.

I was in Varna and that city on Black Sea feels more Russian/Ukrainean then Mediterranean or even Balkan.

For me Mediterranean would be Culture, Geography and the Geographical location.
