You can go to military jail in Israel for losing equipment. Not sure if something is as simple as a carrying handle but ammo for sure.
I heard of someone who got a months long sentence for losing their Night Vision goggles.
Also heard of one guys base that was full of weed smokers who all took turns getting caught and doing a couple weeks in jail.
Then somehow a .50 cal was stolen off a truck overnight and the guy who was supposed to be on watch was fuuuuuckkked.
This was around 2015ish.
Lmao yea. The guy who was supposed to be on watch wasn't just processed into jail like any guy who loses their own equipment.
He was interrogated and treated as a potential criminal/collaborator because how the fuck do you not see someone unbolting an M2 and carrying it away.
Not sure the exact details of what happened to him, but needless to say the other guys on base never saw him again in the time I was talking with them over the next year.
We had some asshole in my platoon steal the 1SG's NODs after an FTX in White Sands. They locked us in the fucking basement of the barracks for three days before finally giving up on finding them. I guess they eventually found them at a pawn shop just outside of post a couple of days after they let us out.
I lost a gas mask on the way back from a deployment, but somehow I was lucky enough that supply lost the record that they issued it to me. Probably burned up about a quarter of my life's luck in that one instance.
I've been told from multiple ex military buddies that this is *exactly* why they did this. They had to keep it on them even though they were issued actual optics.
That’s not a bad guess. When the Marine Corps used to issue us detachable carry handle irons as part of our armory issue we would often attach them to a rail where there was space just to keep accountability of them.
Wouldn't that also be a good failsafe for a broken optic, like your ass takes a fall and fuckers up your main and now you have a backup? I mean I'm a civi and I keep flip ups on mine for that reason.
Yes, but it’s also pretty hard to break an ACOG even if you are treating it roughly. It happens and they aren’t indestructible, but they can take a lot more than a little fall and still function. In any case that was around 2009-2010 and they stopped giving us those in favor of flip up irons after a while.
In this case, though, his optic is already on top of his iron sights, so there’s no point in having tertiary irons.
I saw someone's comment about it being a way to make sure you're not losing it, and I'm going to argue that's the most likely situation, however, I might also have an idea.
Maybe on top of the idea of not losing it, they might also be used by as a mount for some kind of an old school magnifier, and he keeps the handle there so it's always with the rifle, but I feel like that'd be a pain in the ass to take a red dot off the back magnifier, move it to the front, them mount something on the back one.
So not much of a *real* suggestion, more just here to stir some ideas lol
You wouldn't be able to see it through the scope mount and it wouldn't have any kind of adjustment for grenades. It wouldn't be any better than just using the scope. Also, I don't think any countries are employing rifle grenades for AR platforms.
Honestly. The person doesn’t appear to have a front sight. They have a low profile gas block. But I don’t see a front sight. Could they be using both charging handles as sights? They’re facing each other. So there has to be intent on why they’re like that.
You mean carry handles, right? And I don't think you'd be able to see the irons at all for that optic mounted on it. Even if you could, two holes 4 inches apart wouldn't be much of an improvement over just the rear sight.
> two holes 6 inches apart
It might not have been obvious from the grainy screen-grab but it's much more obvious watching the actual video, but the second forward mounted carry handle is actually *backwards*.
Which puts the second aperture almost out to where the front sight would normally be.
Yeah. Sorry. To me that’s the only other logical reason. If you used the night sight on the front and the day sight on the back, maybe that’s something? I don’t see logic in its assembly besides that.
After looking at it closer, that almost looks like part of a tree sticking up and blends in with the flip up grenade sight bolted on there. Ofcourse that also makes no sense because he’s sans TOOB so who knows what the actual answer is.
Yes, this set up is only 2/3rds as effective as the elite triple carry handle set up, generally reserved for only those with the most extreme carrying requirements
I've seen lots of US troops doing this too. But usually under the hand guard.
You get issued a carry handle and optic of some sort. They expect to get both back. Most everyone is gonna run the optic. Bolting the carry handle to the rifle ensures you don't lose it and it's out of the way and somewhere accessible if needed.
This was primarily the Marines when ACOGs were initially being issued. Some high ranking guy was visited by the Good Idea Fairy and said folk needed back up sights in case their scopes failed. So, everyone was issued the carry handle as well, which was “Don’t Lose This” equipment. So, they bolted it underbarrel. Took entirely too long for someone else to point out how fucking stupid that Good Idea was.
Was watching some \[Task & Purpose\]([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpA5SOEq15c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpA5SOEq15c)) videos and noticed some of the Israeli military stock footage had some people run two carry handles on an AR/M4 style rifle.
This one has an optic mounted on the rear handle with the secondary mounted on the handguard, but there were also some clips of people running an optic on the second forward carry handle.
Never seen this before and I'm not sure why you would do this?
you would only do it if you don't know anything about guns
sheila jackson lee, david cicillini, biden, backwards ass country bumpkin not in the US, etc.
even the country bumpkins here in the US know better lol
I remember back in the day some people calling the wings on the front sight of an AK the poor mans reflex sight for close quarters - just point and pull the trigger at anything inside them.
Wonder if painting the aperture sight bright orange or red on the second carry handle would have the same effect?
> Isn't this a frame grab from a movie?
No idea to be honest. They don't attribute their "b-roll" background footage, but generally they don't seem to use fictional clips.
