I'm recovering from Norovirus and just starting to get my appetite back, all I want is Pot Noodle and Lucozade. Interested to know what other people's go to food/drink to help recovery (and keep it down)

After about an hour or so of searching what I should or shouldn’t eat with a stomach bug I have realised I crave all the things I shouldn’t with a stomach bug 😭
jj198hands@reddit
tomato soup and white bread.
orangefox00@reddit
Oh my God I crave tomato soup SO bad when I get over the stomach flu. I'm currently on day 4 and with this Zofran it's helping me to have more of an appetite. All I want is tomato soup but I'm scared to have it. How long into your illness do you finally eat some? I feel like if I have it now I'll upset my tum lol.

I actually have that in the cupboard and am heating it up now after reading this!

I was taught BRAT - bananas, rice (plain, white, fresh), apple juice, toast (plain). All very bland and easily digested.
Get well soon.
sparkrain@reddit
The A in BRAT diet is for Applesauce, rather than juice.

Starchy carbohydrates
Rice pasta bread but little by little and regularly
Ageing_Changeling@reddit
Plain yoghurt and soft fruit. Slips down easily, give you the nutrients you need and helps repopulate your gut bacteria.
PhishingForADream@reddit
Tea and toast.
HackedTheGate@reddit
Rice pudding, soup and ice cream
LeadingCoast7267@reddit
Poached egg on toast.
Crochet-panther@reddit
Tomato soup, cream crackers and sometimes some primula cheese spread. Plus original lucozade

Smooshed banana on toast.
general_adm_aladdeen@reddit
Brat. Banana, rice, apple sauce and toast. Also plain black tea.
TickTockWorkshop@reddit
Uncooked chicken and reheated rice.
rustynoodle3891@reddit
You lunatic, chicken should be medium rare..
The-Rog@reddit
Should be blue, ideally.
The-Rog@reddit
Lamb phall with egg fried rice.
ClevelandWomble@reddit
A couple of slices of toast. If they stay down, I'm mended.
johnnymeow2@reddit
Doner kebab swimming in chilli sauce 🥵🥵.
MissingScore777@reddit
Plain/ready salted crisps have always sorted me out, as unhealthy a recovery food as it is.
Growing up my Mam always swore by plain toast but had to give up with that in my case as it always made me worse.
Ok-Noise2538@reddit
Cream crackers, ritz crackers, plain rice and toast. Maybe a few biscuits if there’s any in the house, obviously not all at the same time. If I can manage a sandwich, that’s usually a good sign that I’m getting better.
Imaginary_Answer4493@reddit
Currently experiencing the worst flu and stomach flu of my life. Not out of the woods yet but it’s nice to have a plan for what to eat when I can finally keep it down!
hullocanuhear@reddit
Jaffa Cakes
justdont7133@reddit
Salty, crunchy food, ideally bacon sandwich or a sausage roll and salty crisps. Lived on them when I had morning sickness
Himantolophus1@reddit
Melon works really well for me. It's got a lot of water so helps with rehydration but doesn't make me want to retch like just drinking can when I've been throwing up a lot. It's also pretty bland so doesn't risk reactivating nausea.
wildgoldchai@reddit
Hot weetabix with plenty of of honey
360Saturn@reddit
Brown toast with honey. Simple enough and gives energy. Add banana when you feel you could keep it down.
Fractalien@reddit
Bananas
Kat8844@reddit
Dry toast or ryevita and flat coke.
mothchoir@reddit
Ice lollies, plain crisps, mashed potato with minimal butter.
Alternative-Ad-4977@reddit
Toast
Pretend-Proposal-682@reddit
The cheesy pasta in the red box with original lucozade.
Or egg in a cup. Always something my mum gave me and carried it into adult hood. A couple of boiled eggs mashed in a cup with some butter salt n pepper. Toast on the side. A cup of tea to go with it. I prefer strong stewed tea so just leave the teabag in the cup.
breadcrumbsmofo@reddit
Toast. If I’m feeling brave I may put a very thin layer of butter on it. If I keep that down, I may move to something like an isotonic drink like flat lucosade sport to replace lost sugars and electrolytes. Normally if I am actually recovering that will make me feel a little more human. After that maybe some ginger biscuits and peppermint tea (not together) and see how you go from there
_Red_Knight_@reddit
Lucozade Sport, fruit, and yoghurt while I still feel sick. When I'm starting to feel better, I have a McDonalds to kick-start my appetite.
Smeeble09@reddit
Buttered towst and fresh orange juice or orange Locozade.
Vickyinredditland@reddit
Toast, veggie soup, jacket potato with butter.
28374woolijay@reddit
Mince pies.
chinamanDT@reddit
Heinz veg soup and 4 slices of buttered bread - I’m not even veggie but the veg soup is so scrumptious.
rustynoodle3891@reddit
Most suggest something plain, but i tend to go for something like a burger or some spicy chicken. That said I often don't finish it, but I think you have to go for what you fancy
knityourownlentils@reddit
Really cheap bags of nachos, the 50p ones.
Flat_Development6659@reddit
I had food poisoning last week and have been drinking mass gainer shakes (1500 calories each) daily since my appetite has started to return. Easy calories while I'm not back to 100% appetite.
While I was actually sick my diet sounded similar to yours, Lucozade and small portions of junk.
DreadfulFiend@reddit
Anything savoury, a favourite is several rounds of cheese and pickle sandwiches.
Cantthinkifany@reddit
Plain food. Bread (if you really want to butter-but as little as possible) banana, crackers (not high salts) I suppose you could have rammen but I wouldn’t add any spice to it. Hope you get better soon!
Kazzothead@reddit
Digestive biscuits
Jlaw118@reddit
Don’t know why but when I’ve had a dodgy stomach I swear by scrambled egg, and dark chocolate (not together)
RidingDigital@reddit (OP)
the thought of that much rich food right now would put me over the edge. Tomorrow maybe!
