[Julie Nolke](https://youtube.com/@julienolke?feature=shared) is basically female [Ryan George.](https://youtube.com/@PitchMeetings?feature=shared)
Also, [PsychIRL](https://youtube.com/@DonnaIRL?feature=shared) makes some pretty great video essays.
So, I've watched a couple of Julie videos and even though she's pretty funny in all the subsequent vids, the first video I've opened is her talking about "he's flirting with me, my ass fat" and I'd say that's the primary reason men don't watch women content creators.
[Lady Decade](https://youtube.com/@LadyDecade?si=urgp8Bg6VJ308IH8) and [Erin Plays](https://youtube.com/@ErinPlays?si=vCYjHesd-PfIc5SN) are decent women video game channels.
I do the same for trans voices. Idk how they somehow make everything about being trans. I was watching a video essay about sailor moon, they made it a trans icon because she changes her clothes with magic. The secret life and not being like other girls means it's a trans thing. I was watching a review of some video games, they're trans stories because they're difficult like bring trans is difficult.
I like watching Contrapoints and Philosophy Tube but the amount of people who think taking estrogen makes them a tortured genius is painful. I'm tired of overly poetic cringe takes with nebulous connections to being trans. I swear they all are like:
**The Cozy Life of Weekend Farm | An Analysis** 2.8k views
Cannons of fury, darkness and death. Violence of hate, my new breasts. This is a poem I wrote about Weekend Farm. Playing Weekend Farm is a lot like being trans because it's an escape from reality to a cozier world we all want to live in. The desire to be someone else and just live that life is an inherently trans way of being. If you have ever felt this way about a video game you'll know how it feels to be a trans person discovering their identity. My journey to Weekend Farm started in middle school. I had no friends and girls didn't want to date me. I didn't understand why I was so unlovable. My mother was a bitch and didn't understand my obsession with anime girls. I just wanted to be pretty. I tried on my sisters clothes, and jerked off. I felt violated by my own actions. Soon I realised that it was dismorphia and I had to become trans to accept myself. Much like how you choose a male or female character at the start of Weekend Farm, I wish I could choose. All your friends still accept you on the farm, which ever you choose. If only the world was more like Weekend Farm. Graphics 7/10, Gameplay 9/10, Total Score 6.5/10
Unfortunately for most of these people, they have autism and were coaxed into permanent bodily changes to feel like they fit in. There's a reason that long form video essayists, speed runners, and the like are all becoming trans at an alarming rate. They are generally people that don't fit in, fall somewhere on the spectrum, and lack the social abilities to not succumb to peer pressure.
I mean, the unfortunate thing is I clicked to hear somebody who can't make eye contact gush about their most recent media hyper-fixation, and now I'm 20 minutes into the indie biopic of some rando monologuing about how their booty hole was baptised by the church youth outreach minister at 14, which made them realise they were always a sexy little girl. It's giving *ma'am this is an Arby's* but for video essays.
Oh-em-gee! So, I stumbled upon this lil' gem called Weekend Farm and like, *wowza*. At first glance, it’s just another pixel paradise of plants and piggies, but OMG, as a trans person, it felt like I was playing my own life's drama, but with extra sprinkles of pixels.
Like, every seed I planted? Totes reminded me of those emotional YouTube transition timelines. And the storms? They’re, like, the literal representation of bad hair days during my transition. Ugh, amirite? 😂
Now, let’s talk about those digital neighbors. Building relationships with them felt just like my Twitter escapades – some were supportive, others were like, "Whatcha doing?!", and a few were ghosting like they were going for a world record. 😜
And OMG, don’t get me started on character customization! It was basically my digital closet – where I could try ALL the looks without any side-eye. Sequins and overalls? Yes, please! It's like a mini digital Drag Race runway, honey!
In a nutshell, Weekend Farm is like my trans journey: sometimes cheesy, sometimes challenging, but always sprinkled with glitter and emojis!
Rating: 5/5 – For all the drama, the giggles, and the "OMG, did they really?" moments. *snaps fingers* 💁♀️
I really don't think this is the same thing. Making everything about being trans is only interesting to trans people in general, and even I as a trans woman get bored of it.
So you're not avoiding them because of their voice, but because of the content, which doesn't make you like OP, who avoids women assumably because he's just sexist.
Fair enough. However, not every trans creator does this, but enough of them do it that I just come in with a bad attitude based off the voice, which is unfair and reactionary, based on a generalised take and expectation of the content. Maybe my reaction is more legitimate than OPs, but I should also do better tbf.
ContraPoints makes fantastic content regardless. It could be a radio show and I'd still be listening. The personal life of creators isn't a detriment to the engagement value of their content for me. The only problem I have with Contrapoints is that the upload schedule isn't as frequent as it used to be. I would prefer more frequent 30 min videos over less frequent 2 hour videos.
Vucitoton says, "They've changed since then too. Like if you play any kind of fantasy story, its usually something that happens during sex (not necessarily rape) or sexual intercourse"
I watch Philosophy Tube sometimes, they are a transgender but videos are interesting and not about transgenderism (although they do have some videos about it)
There's a good YouTuber I've gotten into, but I don't think I've subscribed yet. Her channel name is KiteTales&Flex and she makes pretty good Elden Ring lore videos. Not sure if she's done any of From's other games.
Thinking about it. I watch only one.
In my case its a channel called "How to cook that", the host is a normal middle aged woman that happens to be a pro cook. She debunks tiktok shite. Really good shit and often funny. Her poor family get to eat the shit she makes. Her husband is in the vids often and yet they show eachother respect (can't think of any other couple that doesn't degenerate into casual sexism).
I think it's because many women will eventually try and boost their views by leaning on sex. I dont blame them, sex does sell. I used to watch vids by a Streamer called "Nurse" for project zomboid. Never shower her face. Spoke like a bloke would. As she became more popular every vid was just filled with innuendo. It just felt so weird and out of place. Shame, was good content, she knew the game well.
Futa aren't women, they're hermaphrodites. However, with bases being samey, depending. So the only vagina having porn he could watch would be bara futa.
Indian guys just get straight to the point. So many YouTubers jave a 3 min tutorial that's like a 30 second animated intro, another 1 minute introducing himself, and 30 seconds at the end to smash the like button etc.
I went to school for robotics and automation, and I learned more about programming from Indian youtubers in the week before the exam than I did from the course text and prof combined.
random Indian guy teach us everything we need to know about it.
Since there is no Indian guy teaching it, then... well.. the only concluision is there is nothing be learned from gender studies.
i don’t even know what’s covered in gender studies lol
like you could be a doctor, go into comp sci
and you choose gender studies??
like i understand psychology as that’s kinda related but like why gender studies, u ain’t getting paid nearly as much
I too found that video about the centrifugal force resistance of jello quite refreshing and informative.
I could've done without the five minute street shitting intermission in the middle of the video though
I managed to break 3 of my rgb led diodes die on my fancy topre keyboard from one tea spill never getting fully dry from summer humidity.
There was an indian bloke video for the wiring and replacing that exact model of RGB diode.
Not for my keyboard, but in general how they are wired and how to adapt a different rgb diode to work with the array if you cannot find an exact replacement. This was 4 years ago, but i still remember him with great gratitude.
as an indian, it’s literally impossible to understand indians in math cause they use such different wording cause i’ve lived in the US my whole life
im used to the accent but the wording choice throws me off HARD
That is very true. Indians have their own lingo for math. They use very shortcut ways of saying things instead of correct longer words.
Growing up on school I've barely used the word multiplication, we just say into. 5 into 2 is 10.
yeah like i understand those terms cause my parents immigrated here from india but when they’re said fast it’s hard to understand, plus i just suck at learning auditorially
I watch [Alanah Pearce](https://www.youtube.com/@charalanahzard) (aka Charalanahzard), can't think of any others I watch on the regular though. Last time I recall watching a video essay from a woman was [Jenny Nicholson](https://www.youtube.com/@JennyNicholson), and that was at least a couple years ago at this point.
It's the fact most female youtubers are just simp baiting trash like that sniper chick.
The only one I watch is Jenny Nichols because she's hilarious and doesn't have her tits taking up 1/3 of the screen real estate.
I don't either, but it's simply because any ones I do find always have that shrieking cali girl voice that assults my ears. Even if they are genuinely smart or funny or whatever, I still won't subject myself to the aural torture.
I rarely watch youtube these days, i only use it for music but i used to watch Emzotic cuz she showed cool animals and Jenny Nicholson and Lindsay Ellis for movie stuff, but like in the background on 2nd monitor while playing WoW or whatever. But that's about it
I just went through my sub list, and I follow 2 females. One is our queen Shoe0nHead, and the other is a female animator, who makes animations where nobody speaks.
I used to be kinda like this. I didn't actively avoid watching female YouTubers but for some reason everyone I watched was male. Recently though I've been getting into a couple YouTubers who just happen to be women but it wasn't something I really thought about until I saw this post. I'll also just watch random videos sometimes and it'll be made by a woman.
It feels weird talking about it in this context though as if it's some weird or unusual thing to watch content made by a woman. Like ofc it's not weird. I watch it like I would any other video.
Hmmm. Now that I think about it, I don’t watch women at all for video essays and documentaries. I find myself distinctly finding for male YouTubers. Strange
I once clicked on a Persona 3 video detailing the mythological details of the Persona of every main cast member, only to hear a woman's voice in the first few seconds. Every cell in my body told me to immediately click off, put I forced myself through it. It was a really good video actually, so maybe women are onto something.
I realised that I can watch a YouTube video with a female voice over but I just cannot watch it if her face is visible. What is wrong with me. Imma watch one now.
I generally dislike videos with visible faces anyway since they don't really contribute anything and hide things of actual importance. Imagine a David Attenborough show with his face in it.
Can't relate at all. There is a girl on YouTube who makes videos about math where she explains concepts while looking directly at the camera and talking in a soft and gentle voice. I almost fall into a trance watching those videos lol.
Just recently found out that the only female YouTuber I watch is trans so technically same? She’s very attractive, I literally only found out by chance, but her content is focused in a typically male space while most female YouTubers I hear about from my girlfriend or female friends tend to focus on typically female spaces, which I think is a big contributor to people watching creators of the same gender
*My boys, here's a list of trans youtubers just for you, my boys:*

Deeper voices are statically proven to be more trusted with information.
I’ve noticed it too but not just women but also high pitched or squeaky men.
My guess is deeper voices are soothing and tell us they are mature and older so they must know more, probably caused by evolution. The side effect is anything high pitched therefore is seen as young and therefore immature, this unfortunately includes women and men with high pitched voices.
A good test is just say a sentence and end it on a high pitched note then end it with a low pitched note, the low note sounds sure of themselves while the high pitched note sounds like a question and uncertain.
Example:
I like chocolate
Make sure you only say the word chocolate in a dramatically high or low pitch
this why elizabeth holmes scammed many old men, just deepening her voice.
Hmm no? (About the test)
At least to me the high pitch just sounds excited and/or happy.
The low pitch sounds funny, like some kind of meme. Sounds like the voice is aroused by chocolate or some shit.
A good portion of women online are, frankly, annoying. Obviously *women* are not inherently annoying, but given that on the internet "has boobs" is considered a personality trait, internet spaces tend to draw the wrong kinds of ladies who grow their audience of teens-who-think-with-their-dick. And apparently a lot of guys think the baby voice thing is.. cute? Hot? Idk. It makes me wanna puke.
I think the baby voice thing is from japanese who wants to fake their voice (so nobody recognize her irl) but it somehow gain popularity, because why wouldn't it. It's a girl uwu
Also I agree with your point, but would like to add a bit of "I am an introvert, quirky, don't have many friends and like books (only read Harry Potter lol)" type of online girl too. It's so annoying seeing the same thing for 100+ times from a different people.
Girl, you're not unique. Men are not unique. I am not unique. There are billions of people, nobody is unique.
>I think the baby voice thing is from japanese who wants to fake their voice (so nobody recognize her irl)
Pretty sure they're just doing it because they think it's cute.
partly, perhaps.
Japanese are mostly introvert, secretive and traditional (aside from people Kyoto region, they're different breed lmao) so they will do anything to NOT make people recognized them.
Even some big name vtubers in Holo/Cover still don't tell their parents what are they doing for living, and using their fake voice to protect their privacy.
I think this only applies to very limited spaces.
I have never seen a woman science youtuber be annoying, and I have never seen any woman making a video essay be annoying.
Unfortunately I haven't found a single woman youtuber I have watched because I thought her content was fun/insightful/useful. I only watch them because they are hot.
This is the correct answer.
YouTube viewers are mainly pubescent boys. That's what drives the major channels.
The average YouTube learning channel video is basically trash entertainment with lots of bad information.
In niche cases you will have topic-specific channels that have more serious teachers who are any gender.
True for very general most popular influencers and streamers
However if you watch more niche content focused around a hobby, whether that’s writing, literature, history, foreign cultures, athletics, etc, those tend to have normal women frequently. And are just way less degenerate overall. Actually I’ve found history and philosophy content is very male dominated, but the rest
Dude I thought I was the only one. Mind you I don't hate women or have any ill opinion of them but if there's a video where it's nonfiction and a woman starts speaking I shut off.
>See interesting looking video
>Has commentary playing over the video
>Instantly close tab
What the fuck happened to uploading actual VIDEOS to YouTube? I don't want to listen to your shitty essay rant bullshit. Just give me mindless content to consume, I don't want to hear your voice.
I'm the same way, even if the video topic is interesting. Ive tried to watch a video with a female but she was just..boring and the video seemed kinda cringy.
It's probably just because males know how to say things that appeal to other males and females know how to say things that appeal to other females
I wonder this too, but who would do a masters or phd researching it, it’s social and career suicide.
I think it’s just one of those things that we all know but don’t acknowledge. Like how they also create drama in the workplace. We all know it, even they know it, but it’s sexist to acknowledge it.
Jenny Nicholson gave me absolute brain rot and is the only Star Wars related media I can watch.
I found an always sunny retrospective by a female YouTuber recently that was insanely well put together. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oO-MJtVMWrM&t=2895s&pp=ygUVQWx3YXlzIHN1bm55IHJldmlld2Vk
There are barely any female video essayist on Youtube though, and most good ones make video pertaining to women topics. Two women essayist I like right now are oliSUNvia and the book leo.
Anon realizes the crippling lack of male role models leaves many young men searching for male role models.
Society has no shortage of strong woman. Men are simply looking for what is in short supply.
For real, I'm reading these comments and they're totally insane. I knew r/greentext users act like they hate women but I didn't realise how real it was, wtf.
At least knowing just how much of a loser the avg commenter is it makes it impossible to get upset or offended or whatever at anything anyone posts here. How can you be bothered by people who cant even watch a video with a woman in it lmao
Yeahhhhh, I thought this subreddit was mostly ironic.
Like honestly do these people think I chose my gender?? I don’t understand why hearing info from me would be so much worse than hearing it from my husband.
Yeah I'm a girl and I've noticed that I can't listen to women with higher voices and I often prefer men on YouTube. I think it's internalized misogyny. And I think these people *might* also be lol
I'm kind of losing my mind here how completely the fucking people in this comments section are unable to listen to a woman talk for an extended period of time. This is not normal behaviour. If you can't handle that then you have issues.
It's honestly bizarre. It's like you see a man screaming he's a nazi and then more than half the audience suddenly goes 'WAIT A MINUTE! THINKING ABOUT IT I TOO HATE JEWS!'
r/greentext changed when r/mgtow got banned. Before the comment section mostly just took the piss out of these threads which were either obviously fake or chronically online. Now they're agreeing with them.
I did notice a change in the comments before but I thought maybe it was always like that and I was just stupid. Glad to see I'm not crazy but also depressing that it's become the very thing it once mocked.
I mean is it completely misogynistic though? I have the same feeling with narrators in podcasts, not because it’s specifically a woman but the type of podcast it will be.
Like if I wanna listen to a story I’m more inclined for apocalyptic and physiological horror oriented stories and most of those I find are narrated by men, where as fable and mystery stuff is more woman centric, which is something I’m not really into. If the story is good it doesn’t matter who does it.
It depends on your lens of analysis. A classically liberal framework would not assume intent based on outcome, so just because the outcome of your listening choices is that you mostly listen to men, doesn't mean you are misogynistic, especially granting that you have a perfectly reasonable alternative explanation.
A critical theory or post-structuralist feminist explanation would see that the outcome of your choices is a inequity in female-voiced content and would posit that any inequity in outcome is due to misogynistic bias or structural sexism. The fact is that you're contributing to a system in which female voices are being actively suppressed and you are accountable for your listening choices. It is not good enough that you just listen to what you enjoy, but that you are morally accountable to falling across the line of justice for woman, either as an advocate or an opponent. If you fail to intentionally seek out women voices in a male dominated narrative space like the psych-horror/ apocalyptic genres, then you ARE a misogynistic opponent to women's progress.
The main difference is weather intent or outcome matters more. It's up to you to choose which moral lens you think is the fair one to use.
Pretty well thought out response, thank you. I wouldn’t say I’m misogynistic, but I suppose that’s where the internalised aspect comes into play.
My next thought to that would be is having male dominated positions reflective of the fact that the representation of listeners skews toward men. My head kinda turns to that Bill Burr bit where he talks about the wage gap in women’s sports. Run down basically being that women don’t want to watch women’s sports, and by putting that onus on men is fairly disingenuous
Honest response, as a woman from a working class background: I think a lot of men hear stuff in the news and assume women have equal access and don’t need feminism or whatever, but there’s been a lot of change in a short amount of time and plentyyyyy of people still have some fucked up views that permeate stuff. I don’t see how it’s possible to lose that in only a generation or two. Like I grew up being lowkey told by many people that it was a shame I was a woman because my father should have wanted sons. The implication is that sons are better, you know? And it sucks when who you are is used as an insult.
This vibe has been a constant thing for a really long time—for example, my mom works in construction and couldn’t go to some specific meetings because the guys didn’t like women owning companies, and sometimes back in the 80s she’d get physically dragged off of job sites if some dude got annoyed by the fact that she was in charge. My husband also showed me what semi-conservative but normal enough guys send in private group chats, and I mean….I dunno what to say to people who say it’s all just jokes. Clearly it’s not, for many. I am unsure how someone can be around all that and not incorporate it into themselves to some degree.
And it’s not really anyone’s fault any more than someone can choose the gender or the culture or the country they grow up in, but it still really sucks if you’re on the losing end of some coin flips.
In my country, it was illegal for a married woman to have her own bank account less than 50 years ago, and we're supposed to be relatively progressive.
Most of the active users on this site were born just as equality was getting generally accepted in principle (if not in practice or institutionally), and assume what they were taught in school must be the reality in the outside world.
There are plenty of apocalyptic horror and sci-fi stories successfully narrated by women or voiced by women protagonists in podcasts. I will admit a lot of the popular ones are voiced by men.
I just don't like voiced protagonists in these kinds of games, the guy from the first one was a blank slate you can project yourself on to and below zeros protag is a whole ass person with her own motivations and relationships.
She's not a bad character and I actually like her quite a bit, but I would have preferred another faceless diving suit myself.
I have know about this weird bias I have and have had to actively address it. There are good female youtubers (to literally nobody’s surprise) but it does take some looking finding someone making decent quality stuff about stuff you’re interested in.
Honestly, nothing wrong. My sister doesn’t listen to any music with a female singer, she just thinks they’re all worse than the men she listens to. I would imagine she doesn’t watch too many female YouTubers either.
I don't think I watch any women YouTubers myself never really thought about it. Must be a subconscious thing because I am not entirely against it but yet I just don't do it.
Yeah same but I think it's just the overwhelming amount of men compared to women in gaming and other subject that interresses me like stand UP math got some banging video in collaboration with women but I just don't see any in the interrest i have
for any of you who feel yourself in a similar position, I recommend Jenny Nicholson. She's genuinely really funny and in a way that doesn't feel like 'woman trying to be funny'
My ex was the same way but with guys. She couldn't handle me listening to any youtube video where a guy is talking about something. But she could listen to her fucking cannibal/murder stories that would kill a pilgrim if they heard it
This is the only female YouTuber I watch. I think it’s cause she’s borderline autistic and basically speaks like a man.
https://youtu.be/CRPHp2EjNR8?si=Nu7dyIrY9HWACQaS
I also notice I do way worse with female teachers, profs, and managers. But, if I take the course online and it’s all through text it’s not different than a male prof. I think I’m sexist cause my mom abused the fuck outta me. I might have gynophobia and not actually be sexist idk.
Anyone got any non labour careers that women don’t like? I’m thinking cyber security, software dev, or going for like mechanical engineering as a second degree. Too many women in education and teaching.
She’s a particle physicist! Change your link to one of her particle physics videos!
Here’s a good one:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lu4mH3Hmw2o
Here’s another good one:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hpkgPJo_z6Y
I like male narrators better for the most part. Video essays or documentaries where you're listening to the same person for 1-2 hours is a lot easier if the person has a deeper voice imo
most people who make video essays are guys when a women make a video essay normally is about politics , rarely a woman will make a video abot how the new looney tunes show was a underrated masterpiece
That ShoeOnHead lady did a pretty nice summary on male loneliness, although the more informative video was the follow-up where she showcases how femcels ganged up on her
I do the same for men. Can’t listen to audio books or any one off videos. Have a few YouTubers I like but if I fall asleep and a random video starts playing with a man speaking, I’ll wake up and turn it off.
I thought I was the only one
I don't even remember following a female youtuber too
I do however watch a lot of Japanese and Korean TV shows from early 2010's.
Chances are that as a man most of your interests are going to be had by other men, so watching only men isn't as weird as it seems, being physically upon hearing/seeing a women does mean you should probably seek help
I wasn't like this. But the more I watched the more predictable the opinions of woman became. I only watch female yt if I want any liberal take on a subject
