For me I’d have to go with: The Talking Heads - Burning Down the House Madness - Our House Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

No joke - I've won some decent bar bets in Ruths Chris between men who thought there was 0 way I could hit every word to ice ice baby or drop and do 20 pushups

I grew up in Chicago and we had an at the time excellent top 40 station, B96, “The Killer Bee” that started having DJ’s freestyle mixes and featuring house and similar dance music from 1989 onwards. JJ Fad - Supersonic L’Trimm - Cars with the Boom Technotronic - Pump Up the Jam, This Beat is Technotronic Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance Debbie Gibson - Electric Youth (does anyone remember there is a “deep house” mix of this song?!?) Martika - Toy Soldiers Soul II Soul - Back to Life Snap - The Power Black Box - Everybody Everybody Deee-Lite - Groove is in the Heart 2 in a Room - Wiggle It [uh, classy] Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman, Come on Down Musto and Bones - Dangerous on the Dancefloor and so on

I have no idea what it smelled like anymore but you're right it probably was not good at all, lol. What I do remember is that I kept it in my caboodle. Which I probably got for the same birthday

I…have a caboodle. My friend got me one for my painting supplies. It’s not a vintage on. I guess Target is or was selling new ones. I was like “…ok…” haha
View on Reddit #12149119

hasnt_been_your_day@reddit

Lol, that's kinda awesome. I have a recent one that holds my 5 year olds nail polish collection My makeup phase was *very* short, so I kept my sparkly puffy t-shirt painting supplies in mine through school. Now that I'm old I keep my sewing supplies in it I'm not sure when I realized that caboodles are just tackle boxes for "girly crap" but it's definitely a stroke of marketing genius

So as a 6 or 7 year old I had one of those Fisher-Price tape players, the brown one before they made it brightly colored, lol. I fell stupidly in love with the second karate kid movie and made my mom take me to the store to get a tape of the soundtrack. I'm not sure if the Disney books on tape ever made it back into that player. And yes, I walked around with it on my shoulder like I was a rapper. I was a skinny little white girl who lived in the middle of nowhere Texas, good times. Thanks OP for making this post. I'm going through and upvoting any comment that had even one of my jams in it. Man The Real Thing is a banger. My GenX brother played the shit out of it, and as a result I took a liking to them. He really only listened to them for a short period of time and never kept up with the rest of their material. I did though. When I was a little dude, like pre-teen years - I LOVED Ozzy” “Bark At The Moon” Was just so bad ass, lol. I also liked … Quiet Riot - Feel The Noyze My older brother was a rocker. Dixie Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Neil Diamond - Heart Light, lol My house growing up always had music going. My mom was pretty young, like late 20’s/early 30’s, and she is a Boomer - so lots of Beatles, Elvis, Motown - and also every Sunday - the Top 40 with Casey Kasem. My dad was t around, but when I did visit him, he was more of a rocker type - Zepplin, Floyd, but also Frank Zappa and Cheech and Chong records. Then I had older sibling that’s were total Gen X, being 6 and 5 years my senior. So my sister was more of a teen bop, Olivia Newton John, Madonna, and like indie pop groups like Expose and Bananarama. Older brother was a metal head, always in bands as a bass player. He into all the 80’s metal - Metallica, Megadeath, Dio, Ozzy, etc. So just a bunch of influences.
