Did anyone else's Nan just pour salt on a celery stick and eat it?

I had friends that would do that when I was a kid (and probably still do). Always hated the taste of celery, so no way I'd want it more intense from the salt!.

If you're going to put raw celery into your mouth at all, it should at least have some salt on it. I don't do this myself. Celery is the only vegetable that I don't care for, but it was a thing when I was growing up in the US, along with dipping it in peanut butter.

My Dad did this, He's probably from the same generation as your Nan (I'm oldish for Reddit and my Dad was older than most Dads at the time). I do it now and then when I have fresh, sharp celery around - for some reason I don't see it in the shops often and it's often a bit wilted and only good for cooking with, not eating fresh. It's really tasty, like healthy crisps. We do often eat radishes as a snack, something my Dad did and is still easy to buy.

Not my nan (that I know of at least), but my mum does, and I do too. I don't think it's an old lady thing at all; I'm a Gen Z. I put peanut butter on my celery too. My friends think I'm crazy, but I've seen at least two people in these comments who do that as well, so that must be an established thing to some extent.

My mum did this in the 80s, I think it was a pretty common way to eat celery. My grandma used to give me Ribena with a teaspoon of Andrews antacid powder in it so it frothed up and looked like pink beer.
