You need business use. Commuting covers you to and from your regular workplace. If you were on a holiday you'd be covered, but as you're travelling for work you need business cover.

If you don’t have business cover then the journey itself for work purposes won’t be covered. Commuting only covers travel to/from your normal place of work.

Do you have two forms of lock? Almost all motorcycle policies require two forms of lock to provide cover for theft. The steering lock does count.

Yeah, it's about where the car is *usually* stored. People go on holidays all the time, it's totally reasonable for the car to be away from home for a while.

But this is work, not holiday. I suspect you would need Class 1 Business Car Insurance as commuting covers you from your home to your main place of work. It's usually £30-£50/year for me.

The poster is right. Travelling for work outside if the normal commute requires business insurance my partner and i always add 1000 miles of business to each car for this reason. It doesn’t really change anything cost wise if you do it as part of your renewal, one time it actually reduced the overall cost.

Interesting. I've got some business miles on my policy which I'd understood to apply when travelling between sites, but if I'm going from home to a different site from my base and staying there all day then I thought that was a commute.

I work in different places and make totally sure I’m covered for the extra business use. It’s going to be fine having a knock but if the worst happens you can be sure they’d go deeper. It’s just not worth loosing everything over paying the bit extra.

Why do so many redditors feel the need to comment on sthings which they clearly know nothing about? Commuting is a defined term. The definition is travelling to a fixed place of work. Travelling to other places of work falls outside of this definition and requires class 1 business use.

In fact if it gets stolen they do not ask you why it was parked where it was at all they simply process the claim and offer you considerably less than it's worth in my experience. Class 1 Business Car Insurance is specifically for when you use your own car, for travelling between different places of work. It's not to do with a "work vehicle" Class 1 – This covers driving between multiple places of work or occasional travel to meet clients AA Confirms it is your own vehicle https://www.theaa.com/car-insurance/advice/business-car-use Frankly nobody will ever care unless you are involved in an accident. But the OP asked the "Am I covered" question and the answer would be technically no. I completely agree it's very unlikely to ever be caught and loads of people do this against the terms of their policy.

I work in insurance and just to let you know that the nighttime parking refers to where the car is parked for the majority of the time overnight, therefore your insurance is valid for parking a week at the hotel. You will need business use class 1 though. Commuting use refers to a single, permanent place of work. You travelling for a course for work is not covered under commuting use. Adding business use midterm can sometimes charge extra premium, and a majority of insurers can also charge a fee for making the change. It may be worth your while checking whether your employer can reimburse you for this extra cost.

Technically you would need business cover for this trip, both while travelling and parking overnight at the hotel. And you probably don’t want to get in to technicalities with an insurance company if you wind up making a claim.
