My mum puts the toaster away, am I alone in thinking this is insane?

It gets better. One day she asked me to "fix her Microsoft Word". I had no idea what this meant so when at her house I asked her to show me the laptop and I'd do the rest. After retrieving the laptop from the sideboard I booted it up. I opened up MS Word and asked again, "What's the problem?". I actually forget what the issue was but I knew she was on a neighborhood committee and wrote the meeting minutes, weekly newsletters, etc. Thus, I went looking for a saved document so she could then show me the problem. Within Word I went looking for a saved document. There was nothing - which was odd. So I moved over to File Manager/Explorer and went hunting for saved files. There was nothing. The Documents folder was empty. The Desktop was empty. The Downloads folder was empty. WTF is going on? She's the meeting minute taker and writer - so where are the fucking documents? After poking around and coming up empty I asked, "Where are your saved files?". She had no clue what I was asking. I asked the same question several times but got nothing. Finally, I said, "The newsletters. The meeting minutes. After you have typed them and when they're finished, where do you keep them?" She then pointed to a file cabinet in the corner of the room. And then it dawned on me. The silly old cow would write pages of content, print a copy, and then close out the document without saving it. She'd then photocopy the single document but never keep a soft copy. That laptop was just a glorified typewriter. Once I'd recovered from the insanity I attempted to explain the concept of saving a document. I don't need to tell you my efforts failed. So once I'd solved her "Word problem" the laptop was shut down, bagged up and, as always, returned to the sideboard. You can't make it up.
