Are there any good Gulf War movies?

There are many good Vietnam and GWOT movies, but I can't think of any Gulf War movies.

Jarhead (2005). My dad said that is exactly what it looked like when he was there. From digging your hole in the desert to stirring the burning shit all very accurate.

Yeah, I realized that after I was reading the plot on Wikipedia after posting the comment. Lol.

Infinity. Lexus never did a convertible (till after the movie was made anyway).

I forgot about that one. That was pretty good!

Can’t think of any, but there were trading cards produced with generals, tanks, and planes. How weird was that?

I remember those for the 2003 Iraq War. I remember guys at my middle school had them.

The Upper Deck ones were much better than the Topps ones. I have no idea where mine ended up.

I have the entire set. My grandpa was a huge war buff and bought a ton of these cards. After he passed away, my grandma gave me a box with all his trading cards in them and there was an entire set of these. I didn't know what to do with them, so I kept them just because they were so quirky.

I was just a big card collector at the time with tons of baseball cards. So it just fit to collect these cards too I suppose.

I had some of those! I kind of wish I still had them, they'd be pretty cool to see nowadays.

Didn’t the Simpsons reference a Stormin Norman trading card or something? I definitely had a Ninja Turtle that was Desert Stormed theme. I loved it.

Sounds pretty fucking weird, but I would have been 2.

I’m pretty sure I still have them in a box somewhere. Just like baseball cards but war stuff. Definitely not what we would expect today.

Funny thing I learned at my last VA visit. They consider one big event. So my Dad, who was part of Desert Shield and my time in Afghanistan 2 decades later are considered the same conflict.

Courage Under Fire (1996) was decent

[Bravo Two Zero \(1999\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120617) is a British movie, following SAS troops during a failed mission in Iraq - it's ages since I watched it, but IIRC it was pretty decent. Based on true events.

It’s kind of hard because the war lasted 6 weeks when America and its allies invaded and most of it was bombing before the troops moved in

That makes sense.

I'm going to second Jarhead here. If Savings Private Ryan is the most authentic depiction of war combat in film, Jarhead is the most authentic depiction of everything *outside* of combat in film.

I'd argue that Generation Kill takes the cake for both circumstances

There was a hindi film with Akshay Kumar that was denounced by the Qatari government because it showed the royal family abandoning the country. Beyond that the war was so short its main influence in pop culture was how other fictional films were told.

I don't think it covered the Gulf war but it did cover the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait mostly from the migrant worker perspective.

Just from what I remember (haven't seen it in a long time), it's not a "war movie" in the sense of Saving Private Ryan. It's more about the hardships of the Marine experience, and specifically how the Gulf war experience was mostly out of combat.
