Is Carmarthen a shithole?

I'm doing a day's work there next month. I could easily book a hotel there for the night, but if it is in fact a shithole I'd rather stay with a friend in Cardiff and drive down on the day. I have no preconceptions about it - I was extremely pleasantly surprised by Shrewsbury once - so any advanced intelligence is very welcome!
