Dont know why this movie gets shit on so much, be it for being too camp, incorrectly paced, or whatever...I love it. I saw it as a teen and years after, and have always loved it. It's like Raiders, Aliens or Goodfellas for me, Always rewatchable and never gets old.

a typical Baby Boomer example of parenting: I must have told my mother when I was 9 yrs old that she was a mean mom. Because she decided to record “Mommie Dearest” and told my aunt, “if she thinks I‘m mean, I’ll show her a real mean mom!” So she plops me in front of this cult movie about a crazy mother and even tho I’m only 9, i can tell it’s overacted and campy. My mom made me a fan of “Mommy Dearest” when that wasn’t her goal.

The kids were adopted from Georgia Tanns adoption agency who kidnapped kids from hospitals when they were babies. It’s a sad story. So many moms were told their kids died during child birth. The doctors and nurses were paid off. She adopted kids out to a lot of wealthy and connected people. There’s a few documentaries about it.
