Nope. I also don't tip shop assistants in shoe shops who go to the back to get my size. Never tipped postmen, DHL drivers or any other couriers. So why would I tip food delivery drivers?
WittyCranberry5636@reddit
All those other people you’ve described are unlikely to be in “gig economy” roles where they lack benefits like annual leave or pension.
It’s still a choice you have, but that would be my justification of why would I?
the-shadow-cat@reddit
It a choice they have as well. They can have other jobs if this one is not meeting their needs.
Flimsy_Tradition280@reddit
Yes I always tip when using the apps drivers are out all day delivering food.and I usually get tipped when delivering for Uber eats. It's courtesy I believe when tipping. Obviously other people who don't that's up to them and I do get alot of tips myself when out working.
Emphursis@reddit
Not normally but I have done once or twice if the weather was particularly bad (blizzard or heavy rain when it’s below freezing).
trashkub@reddit
agreed
WittyCranberry5636@reddit
Yeah £3 usually. Via the app at time of order. I want my food delivered quickly and not tampered with.
If I can afford expensive delivery food, I can afford to help the drivers out a little bit, because I wouldn’t want their job and everyone is struggling.
wolfhelp@reddit
You think tipping gets you your food quicker and not tampered with? Weird
WittyCranberry5636@reddit
It’s worked so far. It’s almost like tips is an acronym of To Insure Prompt Service. (I know this isn’t really true)
I’m sure that drivers on Deliveroo would see the tip as part of the listed gig and then rush over it as it’s more profitable. Therefore reducing delay.
It’s just my theory, but maybe that’s how it works?
We had Nando’s the other night and the guy must have been driving a Delorean it was here that fast.
You think the drivers are oblivious to the tip and it makes no difference to how they behave? Weird.
Top-Hat-4966@reddit
I'm a delivery driver for a restauraunt doing takeaways.. If I have 3 drops and they all similar direction I'll head to the one that's tipped in past first every time. So yes you are absolutely right and I'm not the only one who thinks this.
soitgoeskt@reddit
Always. I can afford to and if it makes someone else’s day marginally better then why not.
Edit: ‘can’ 😂
misterbooger2@reddit
Because you "can't afford to"
Top-Hat-4966@reddit
If you can't afford it you shouldn't be ordering food delivery in first place.
angeliaavalon@reddit
No but its because at this point there's already a delivery charge and service charge almost everywhere you're ordering from regardless of your experience with delivery or food.
Also the amount of times food arrives cold or smashed or drinks are spilled over the food just especially after waiting for over an hour it's just so fucking off-putting.
schrutefarmed@reddit
Don't think that's the delivery drivers fault.
Snr64X@reddit
I only tip if it comes to £29.97 and I give £30 and say, 'keep the change'.
It keeps the shrapnel out of my pocket and teaches them that if they count the pennies the pounds will look after themselves.
Three Pence is Three Pence. You could buy a liquorice stick and some of them candy fags for that when I was a lad.
Green-Bee5389@reddit
underrated comment,lol
Snr64X@reddit
Thank you. It's nice to see at least one of my comments appreciated. ;)
Best_Initiative7505@reddit
It is possibly unethical to tip gig workers just because they're underpaid. The reason is that by doing so you're helping to trap them in their exploitative jobs and helping their employers continue to abuse them.
But if we extrapolate from here, it is perhaps even more unethical to make use of such services. Because then we both contribute to their misery while personally benefiting from their exploitation.
Boycotting industries that do not pay properly may be the only thing to do.
Automatic-Passage-59@reddit
Always tip about 10%.
oxMagiiCxo@reddit
I know it’s an old post but I’m shocked that most don’t tips delivery drivers. I won’t order or eat out unless I have spare change to tip, as I’ve worked as a delivery driver myself at a few places in the past I know how stressful it can be flying about to make orders on time. A lot of places pay below minimum wage and a set amount per delivery which may or may not cover the cost of fuel, never mind the stress it causes to the vehicles engine, tyres brakes etc.
Reedie_91@reddit
Why would i tip someone for doing their job?? No one tips me for the job i do so why should i tip them??
DifficultyCreative52@reddit
You moat likely make a regular wage, you most likely don't use your vehicle (gas and wwlear and tear causing more costs in maintenance), you aren't having to deal with any weather by ordering delivery, you aren't, you aren't waiting in line at the restaurant, you aren't dealing with crappy restaurant employees to get your order.... You understand how the system of ordering through a 3rd party works, yet you refuse to use it properly.
Reedie_91@reddit
Again if the dont like the money get a better paid job. We don't expect tips in Europe
DifficultyCreative52@reddit
If you don't like the way a 3rd party delivery service works, don't use it. See how that goes both ways? The fact that people have to take unconventional jobs to pay their bills and eat due to rising costs of living, but not wages, shouldn't be looked down upon, nor should that make people think it's okay to take advantage of the system they are using. I'm not sure about there in the UK, but here in the states, people have said "if you don't like it, get a better job" so much that now those same people are complaining that they have to wait so long at those businesses because the workers left. People like you want the convenience and the service, but don't want those people providing it to get paid fairly... you just tell them "go somewhere else." How about you go get your own food?
Reedie_91@reddit
Yh i dont anyway lol
Okidontknow123@reddit
I normally tip £20. I like to help people out and see the smile on their faces, i am selfish like that.
Active-Zebra9707@reddit
No, because I have to pay a substantial delivery and service fee.
