Why are stouts and dark beers so hard to easily find?

I like stouts and porters and dark heavy beers. But going into shops these days all I can find is ranks and ranks of IPAs. I don't mind IPA at all, and will drink it happily enough a lot of the time, but it's not where my true drinking passion lies. I know stouts aren't as popular, but even a year or so ago I could find a small decent selection in Tesco. Seen some great Northern Monk Imperial Stouts, some great coffee and chocolate stouts too, but now it's Guinness (fine but a bit boring), Brewdogs Blackheart (basically also Guinness, though a tad more bitter so marginally less boring) and maybe one other, basic, stout or porter. I miss my opaque black that even light can't escape from. Is online the only place I can go these days??
