Quality restaurant recommendations?

Hi all,
Haven’t been in Milton Keynes for a while and have come back with no idea as to what restaurants are regarded as doing decent, quality food.
Any suggestions welcome (chains or independently owned)
Would ideally like to have a few drinks too so a place that has a good selection of alcohol would be ideal!
Thanks a lot!

I’ve put a small selection below
House of Chicken is amazing (destroys Nando’s) Five Akhis or Chunkeez for burgers Romanellis for Pizza Treat Street for Desert Craft and Skewers/Himalaya for Indian Nags Head or Swan Inn for British Mii & U / Hong Kong (Furzton) for Chinese Moore’s for Chips Istanbul (Bradwell) for Doner Kebab

Solid list bro !

Chunkeez 100%

Wingers for anything chicken, that BBQ sauce is exquisite. Mk11 for snack burgers Also, say it quietly so it doesn't get too busy, kardomen lounge in stony for great Indian. Note: do not go to the kalcuttta brasserie in stony, it got a one star did rating and the food is bland.

Without getting into a slating match, I'm with you on Calcutta. I was excited about it but we had a very "meh" Valentines Day meal there and it was obvious from people at other tables they felt the same. I will always give somewhere a second chance, so it's still on my list of places to go back to one day.
Notagelding@reddit
I recently did wingers and didn't think it was that great!
rogeroutmal@reddit
Nags head has terrible food 😂
180082@reddit (OP)
This is really helpful, thanks a lot mate
capman511@reddit
The fact that Istanbul is mentioned for kebab highlights the legitimacy of the rest of the list, their kebab is literally the best!
TheMasalaKnight@reddit
High praise, thank you! That’s one of the nicest comments I’ve read!

Happy Eating! Still trying to hunt down a Caribbean eatery.
If you’re in town, queens court has a good few eateries in too.
Notagelding@reddit
I'm glad you included Hong Kong. It's my local takeaway and half the time I just go there to order spare ribs (number 7). Theyve had a recent refit and somehow the food is even better! The fish n chip shop next door is also pretty good.
TheMasalaKnight@reddit
It’s my local too and the spare ribs are amazing, I just get em dry (pure) and dig in.

THE OLIVE TREE is the best by far
BeefcakeUK@reddit
Kobe Steakhouse in Xscape
uphoriak@reddit
Sunday roast: Cross Keys in Woolstone
Chinese: Not sure restaurant wise but takeaway Good Friend in Furzton. Tried most of the ones in west MK and this is our favourite (Veggie World in Bletchley comes second).
Thai: Thai Modern near CMK train station
Indian: The Grange in Grange Farm
Fish & Chips: Again takeaway rather than restaurant, but Moore's (any of them) is great
Turkish: Olive Tree on Midsummer Boulevard
Greek: Greek Souvlaki in Bletchley (they have a few tables but are mainly takeaway)
Tubec@reddit
Cross keys is always a favourite, lovely pub and nice beer garden with quality food.
uphoriak@reddit
Sunday lunch at the Cross Keys is incredible, especially their roast for two.

Noted this one down, looks really nice! Thanks for the suggestion

my list:
-Indian: Maaya restaurant in the Hub (city centre). honourable mention: Namji in Xcape
-Thai Modern in Witan studios (city centre)
-Pizza: Murati's Pizza in Wolverton
-Fish and Chips: Napoli fish and Chips in New Bradwell
-Steakhouse: Carrington Arms (Cranfield road). Honourable mention: Miller and carter in Shenley Church end. I believe that Kobe Steakhouse in the Xcape could be a potential winner, but I haven't tried yet.
-Turkish: Melis near the hub
-Kebab: German Doner Kebab near Theatre district
-Japanese/Korean: Akasaka near the hub
-French cuisine: Brasserie Blanc in the hub
-Chinese: Taipan MK in the Thatre district
-Italian: Nonna's in Woburn Sands

Great list so I won’t repeat (but highly recommend the independent, non chain ones on here), but did want to add the Swan in Middleton for pub food.
riyten@reddit
Just from personal experience...
These are just my personal takes - I love hearing other peoples takes!
Will_East_Roker@reddit
It's insane how many good restaurants there are in Wolverton!
Notagelding@reddit
Black Horse is also top of my list for a pub meal. Delicious!
riyten@reddit
Great food, great pub vibes. Can't argue.
AvadaBalaclava@reddit
Made in sud are closed afaik, even though the website isn’t
riyten@reddit
Nooo! I hope they resurface again soon.
buford419@reddit
Omg, we have a south African restaurant? I didn't even know.
One_Opening679@reddit
Pasha in Bletchley does fantastic Turkish food and The Greedy Italian in Fenny is a fantastic little Italian restaurant.
catetheway@reddit
Agreed, Djanpur in Fenny is also great
nasted@reddit
Olive Tree in the city centre gets my vote!
JohanFinski@reddit
Pashas in Bletchley does fantastic Turkish food
buford419@reddit
Seconded, we've been there a couple of times and enjoyed it. Their veggie and non-veg items are equally good.
OleaC@reddit
Banana Tree for various Asian cuisines.
MK Lebanese in the centre mk food hut courtyard does an excellent lamb shawarma wrap.
waitedforg0d0t@reddit
honestly it's still kinda thin pickings given the size of the city, and the fact that there's people in here genuinely recommending Wetherspoons gives you an indicator of how much further MK has to go foodwise
Schmaglebends@reddit
I agree with your Wetherspoons comment.
I was trying to provide a balanced list as we all have different tastes, budgets and opinions on what is good.
cacolborn@reddit
MK Dosa Corner in Bradwell Common does great Sri Lankan & dosas
DiamondBikini@reddit
Sul Lago Italian at Furzton Lake is worth checking out.
Karlouxox@reddit
Middletons (Steak) Zouk lounge (Lebanese) Kassia (Indian Tapas) White Hart, Sherington (Lovely pub food bit out of MK but 100% worth it) Enfes (Turkish) Greedy Italian (Amazing Italian) Eastern Paradise (Indian)
Melodic_Employer9462@reddit
Just going to add a second recommendation for Legend One for more traditional Chinese food. The flavours are amazing. There’s a Facebook group called Eat & Explore MK which posts about all the new independents which is a good reference place
This-Ebb6927@reddit
I second the Greedy Italian in Bletchley. Calcutta Brasserie in Stoney for Indian, Ye Olde Swan for traditional pub grub.
SquashyDisco@reddit
Italian - Greedy Italian in Fenny Stratford
Italian Tapas - Cichetti’s in Oxley Park
Spanish Tapas - Olè in Wolverton Works
Turkish - Antep Kitchen in Wolverton
Sunday Dinner - Black Horse in Great Linford
Indian - Mayaa in The Hub

Depends of course where you are and what you’re after but:
Mii and U up near the A5, great and cheap cafeteria style oriental food is brilliant. Don’t let the fact it’s on an industrial estate put you off. Half of it is also an oriental supermarket. Brilliant place.
Not far down the road is MK11, great for wings Wednesday and have all sorts of other deals on other days (burger and a beer etc). The open mic night and quiz are also great there.
For other cheap eats the Wetherspoons (the one down towards the station) is the better of the two. Moon under water is less pleasant.
Just over the road is brewhouse which again does reasonably good food, higher quality than Wetherspoons.
For better pub food wavendon arms in wavendon, the black horse in great linford and the swan in Woburn sands are all good quality places (owned by the same chain). The swan at Salford is also very good and owned by a different group so nice for variation. Likewise the carrington arms in moulsoe is very good. The bull out in Olney also upped their food game massively after it burnt down and was rebuilt a few years ago. As mentioned previously cross keys in woolstone is good for both food or a quiet drink. The wheatsheaf in bow brickhill also has great food. As does the old red lion up in great brickhill, the food here is brilliant and the terraced garden out the back has amazing views on a nice day.
Out in Newport pagnell is pin petch which is a brilliant Thai place.
In Bletchley is a small family run Portuguese place called house of chicken. It’s phenomenal and very authentic Portuguese food cooked over charcoal and very cheap. Absolutely brilliant spot and the couple that run it are lovely.
The best Chinese I’ve found anywhere is the old Shanghai in Olney. Although foodie house in Woburn sands does a reasonable takeaway.
For Indian restaurants I’d say the Jalori in Woburn sands or Maya in Olney, or the four pillars in Olney. All very good.
At the top end is Paris house on the Woburn estate. They do seasonal tasting menus with wine pairings. Not sure whether it’s Michelin starred or Michelin recommended but it’s absolutely stunning and in a beautiful setting.
For pubs for a drink rather than food ( I know you didn’t ask this) but I’d say wharbler on the wharf close to the centre, the Royal Oak in Woburn sands, the fir tree in Woburn sands, the barge in woolstone, the white hart in Sherington, the coach house in Newport pagnell are all great.
vokker-@reddit
I was about to recommend Paris house too , I worked there a few years back the team and the food they make are incredible , q little pricier but we'll worth it for the experience! They're Michelin recommended now days sadly they lost the star during my tenure there
TylerDarkness@reddit
I love the Thai Modern in the Hub.
ollyhinge11@reddit
Taco Bell is good.
