I'd give up my left but to be able to do that. Well done!!

That’s some bendy work!

All to keep that firing order in a radial pattern in the collector!

Are all of the pipes of equal length from outlet to outlet? If not then it doesn't actually qualify as being a "header". If they aren't all equal length then they are a manifold.

Provide a source that proves you correct.

Below is a quote straight from the Jegs website. By clinical definition everyone who down voted me is "correct" (a header is not "required" to have all equal length tubes, but they always do if they are made professionally), but in terms of performance if not all the pipes on a header are of equal length then they might as well be no better than a manifold. "Assuming that an exhaust system is otherwise properly designed, equal length pipes offer some benefits that are not present with unequal length pipes. These benefits are smoother engine operation, tuning simplicity and increased low-to-mid range torque. If the pipes are not equal length, both inertial scavenging and wave scavenging will vary among engine cylinders, often dramatically. This, in turn, causes different tuning requirements for different cylinders. These variations affect air/fuel mixtures and timing requirements, and can make it very difficult to achieve optimal tuning. Equal length pipes eliminate these exhaust-induced difficulties. "

You're moving goal posts. you went from "not equal length, not a header" to "here's what a marketplace says in general about the difference between unequal length and equal length" At least learn to read and possess the necessary comprehension to understand what is actually written, if you're going to copy & paste a source.

Dude. I don't know why you're so pissed about this. You are actively fighting over the difference between clinical definition and actual real life performance. Clinical definition, you win, huzzah. You're right. But performance says that even though you can have a header with different length pipes, and that will still be defined as a header, you should never do it because it has a shit load of problems. What I copied from Jegs above boils down to Equal Length = Good. Non Equal Length = kind of shit with lots of problems, aka: you should never do this. That is all I was trying to say at the time when everyone sent me to down vote hell. At the time I did think that was the clinical definition of what a header was, I thought it HAD to have equal length pipes. Because I've never seen a professionally made set of headers with non-equal length pipes before. Maybe they exist, idk why you'd want them, but maybe that's a thing out there somewhere and someone could send me a link to and then explain to me why you would ever want non Equal Length tubes. What is actually the truth is that a header just has to have a separate exhaust pipe for each cylinder leading down to the collector. They don't have to be equal length, but they always should be.

Did someone say Bender?

No bender, just pieces welded together and ground smooth

Stainless mig wire

4-1 will sound nicer, but unequal lengths will kill some of that ear goodness, tho maybe you have packaging constrains so it makes sense.

Disagree, UEL adds that lobey sound.

This is for a K20 and I do have a Saabaru with a UEL header for that sound. They are bendy but the runners aren't way off in runner length. It is in a tight space so I couldn't make a big curvy one like I would love to.

It was a K24, this is the third and hopefully last engine going in this car.

What sort of transmission are you adapting to? I've now been looking into putting a K20 into my old truck (Mazda B2200, uses a Miata transmission more or less) and adapter plates, flywheels, etc. seem really expensive for RWD swaps. Maybe that's just the nature of things, though.

There's a lot of options but I'm using a Toyota W55. I got a bellhousing from McGregor Motorsport that also used factory clutch parts. It's one of the cheaper options but if you're going for power it's not the best option.

Very cool - mig or tig?
View on Reddit #10327448

juwyro@reddit (OP)

Both. About the only thing that is tig'd is the runner and flange. I mig'd the runners and ground them smooth then welded the collector on. I had gaps way too big for my tig skills.
