How does your house/apartment enhance or restrict your prepping efforts?

Biggest pro is that you aren't attached to where you live. The definition of packing light and evacuating once SHTF. You can even break your lease and move once you start noticing things get shifty. Someone with a house is going to be in it for the long haul. Biggest restriction is that you really can't stock up on stuff and can't make modification to your apt in order to be better prepared. Of course you also aren't on the hook for any naturally occurring minor or major damages.

I'm on the 7th floor and my car is on the 5th. If I've flooded, there's nothing anyone could have prepped for to save themselves other than an Arc. Also a lot more inconspicuous living there over a single family home, why would anyone break into my apartment/bother me when all the doors look the same.

Yeah I hit the grage door button and I'm launched out a trap door, jump over a river and then I'm out on the street. Jk I'm in a highrise with an attached public/private garage.

I live in a big apartment building in town, Pros are friendly neighbours and adequate room for prepping and my container garden, close to the river if I have to lug water. Only cons I can think of is lack of privacy and not having more room to grow food. The basic "I live in town argument."

I'm jealous. We bought a 125 year old house because my wife had been glued to HGTV and wanted a house with "character." We sure got it. Cold in the winter, hot in the summer. A severe lack of 90° angles. Living room is a decagon. So it's got character for days, but I'd trade its 'charm' for an insulated house.

If it's worn down, I hope you got a good deal on it so you got something over for renovations. I know some old houses here have stamped wheat(?) As isolation material, not only is it pretty bad compared to modern materials but it's also a fire hazard

I live in an 800 SQ ft apartment, BUT I have a great job. The job/small apt allows for extra income, however space is limited so I have a trailer parked out back with an alarm attached to it. With in my trailer I keep vacuum sealed guns I don't use often ( I know that sounds silly, but Texas is hot and humid). I also keep tools and various prepping items in there as well. Plus it's so easy just to put on my hitch because I'm in the back of the apt complex and no one parks there. A major con is, even though I love my neighborhood I live five minutes away from a homeless shelter. The street it's on is known for crackheads and meth addicts, and let me just say I prefer the crack heads. If shtf I know these people will do what's necessary to survive just like most, even if that means stealing or killing to get what's needed. There's also too many entrance points to the apt complex as well and we don't really know our neighbors. We do however have family with well fortified/defendable houses. I'd just take the trailer there and share my supplies since I am prepping for them as well...even if they don't know it.

I have a townhouse w/a basement that's semi insulated. The advantage of a rental for me is with my health issues someone comes and does repairs. Finally got a new sump pump for example. My biggest problem is not being able to plant anything. I have a planter cart and even that's a problem with the neighbors letting their dog on my side (no real fence). We also have a kid (now a teen) who has behavior issues & I've had decorations stolen/damaged, flowers ripped out, etc, so to me that's a big drawback. I've weathered a blizzard or 2 here & it's held up wonderfully.

I don’t have great sunlight. I would love to have a big garden. But I would have to cut down a bunch of trees and reconfigure the yard. I don’t own the home so it would a big waste of cash. Also a greenhouse I would love one to grow food and marijuana all year round.

advantages: I have a roof over my head in a country/region/neighborhood where violence is not widespread or normalized and where my most important rights are more or less protected (at the moment at least). disadvantages: I don't have enough land to be self sufficient and I have exactly zero sources of freshwater within 3 days of walking distance, in a country currently suffering because of drought.

I live in a ground floor one bedroom condo. It's my first home and definitely not my dream home. It's super well insulated and has a big kitchen (relative to the total size) which I love for canning. On the other hand, there's not very much storage space and I can't have a garden due to HOA rules.

We outgrew our cupboard a long time ago. The garage is too hot in the summer so my home office is now half-storage. I live in an HOA neighborhood but I have a small front yard and an almost half-acre backyard. My privacy fence hides my nice size food plot.

Live in an extended stay hotel in the rockies. No place to grow food. Fairly easy to defend. No growing space. There is a field across the street. I grow potatoes. Not much else growes at 7000 feet in the colorado rockies.

I live in a short Cul de sac where one side is a park (large open field) and the other two houses on the block we are friendly with. It's super easy to "block off" at the main road if needed The back of my home backs up to a wooded park/sump and came with a town installed barbed wire fence Should be easy enough to lock down with the neighbors if SHTF

I love my stove so much. This year alone, it saved me $2k in heating costs. It also meant I was the hangout spot when some friends lost power during a cold snap and needed to warm up. It's the perfect combination of luxury, cost savings, and emergency backup.
