Why are so many old episodes on Paramount+ missing?

For a long time I've wanted to watch all of the old episodes in order - the only full seasons I've seen in order is the 2011 one, and the 2 seasons. I'm guessing they don't want to pay royalties for the music videos? But couldn't they just cut them out and still keep the actual plot? I don't like the Mike Judge collection though because I want to see every story without curation.
This might be blasphemous, but personally I don't care for most of the music video reviews, and I usually skip it unless I know what they're reviewing. I just like to watch the show for their adventures and shenanigans.
On a side note, since it's not available, I was thinking of torrenting them so I don't have to skip around so much. If anyone knows any good complete ones, send 'em my way. Some of the sites with illegal streaming are unbearable.

Typically, royalties for the songs would be why an episode would be cut or incomplete, but since you don't really care for them, I would assume likely content would be why they're not readily available. A lot of early episodes were suuuper raunchy and suggestive and got Mike in trouble a lot, so maybe that's why they're not being included in any collection. Another reason I've heard is Mike himself not liking a lot of his early episodes and preferring to forget about them.

It's not even just the super early episodes. I'm talking seasons 4+ have most of their episodes missing
Familiar_Welder3152@reddit
Yeah that's what stings. The early early ones aren't very good.. Seasons 4-7 were excellent but so much is missing.
jpak88@reddit
That's fair. I really actually do like the newest b&b iteration the best out of all of them I think.
mamamamysharonaaa@reddit
I’m with you man, B&B are too intelligent in the music video segments. The plot is the best part bc of how dumb they are
TongueFirstDroolNext@reddit
Back when this shit was first airing, we LIVED for the music video segments.
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
If I was a tween/teenager in the mid 90s, I probably would appreciate the music video segments more. I was born in 93, so most of the music videos they review I’m unfamiliar with. Since I don’t know, like or care about what they’re reviewing, it doesn’t interest me as much
Transgenderwookie@reddit
I was born in 92, I watched that shit when it first aired, the videos have always been THE best part of that show. I knew all the artists at the time, I was watching mtv and vh1 videos and had family that explained references that went over my head. Their dialogue is brilliant.
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
You were watching it when you were 1-5 years old? I find it hard to believe a 3-5 year old can fully appreciate cultural commentary of any kind. Are you sure you don't mean reruns?
Transgenderwookie@reddit
Nah from about 3 or 4 I started watching when it aired I had fam that watched it and I watched with them weekly, as far as music my grandpa is a musician and I went to sleep watching music videos a lot, I watched pop up video a ton, music was big in our family… I also have a little of an old soul and my family cultured me on 70s and 80s stuff, I watched adult tv and cartoons and kids shit too as a kid big fan of muppets, and snl. I have no memory before 4.. and of course I saw tons of reruns through the years, and accessed episodes online. I was an extremely smart kid I started speaking full sentences at 10 months old, I hung out with adults constantly and was always showered with attention. I turned into a dumbass adult. I peaked before 3rd grade, got my first F in 3rd grade and I got lazy and demotivated.
KJSS3@reddit
It started in 1993. Not when you were 3.
Transgenderwookie@reddit
I didn’t say it started when I was 3… I said I was watching it live on tv when I was 4ish at which time they were still airing new episodes.
How did you land on this fuckin comment from 2 years ago? Jesus
Taffer4ever@reddit
Well, I was born in 1981, and even back then I didn't get much enjoyment from their commentaries. And I was familiar with much of the music played. Some were funny, but others were just... meh.
That said, looking back on the early episodes as a 43-year-old man, I don't find the majority of them to be that funny. More like toilet humor/ crude humor. It was cool when I was a kid, but as time went on the boys developed more personality.
ChiliPepper-1983@reddit
That's pretty sad, if I have to be honest.
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
Why?
ChiliPepper-1983@reddit
Because it shows me how uncultured you are towards music.
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
My music library contains a lot of 90's music - i just checked my iTunes library, and I have 271 90's songs. I have music from many genres and decades. How dare you say I'm uncultured. I know some of the most popular 90s songs, but B&BH review a lot of obscure ones that weren't even super popular at the time. To expect me to have an extensive knowledge of the music of a decade, where I wasn't alive for 1/3 of it, another 1/3 of it I was too young to form coherent memories, is unfair.
Based on your username, presumably you were born in '83. I bet you have a much more comprehensive knowledge of 90s music than 80s music - even if you do enjoy a lot of 80s music. I have much more comprehensive knowledge of 00's music because that's when I was tuned in the most.
Do I enjoy finding new music? Yes, but when I'm watching B&BH, I'm in the mind state of wanting to be entertained. And I have in fact serached beavis and butthead on some 90s songs I like and was curious what their take would be.
ChiliPepper-1983@reddit
Ha! I was right about you being uncultured towards music! My username is actually one big reference to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Check out my profile picture and banner.
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
get fucked. I know who RHCP are and like plenty of their songs
ChiliPepper-1983@reddit
The 1983 part is a reference to the year they formed.
TK421isAFK@reddit
You were right all along. 90s music...meh. Seattle, Cranberries, and Avril aside, most of it is shit.
I'm 20-ish years older than that guy, but I know a lot of music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. "I'm too young" is no excuse. And this:
lol...I have a couple 2TB hard drives filled with over 200,000 songs. I'd love to meet whoever Meredith is, if you remember "Meredith's Hellishly Large Torrent" that we traded about 15 years ago, because it holds 136,000 mp3s, and it's a large part of my collection. Played non-stop and sequentially, that's over 550 days of 24-hour-a-day music with no repeats.
mamamamysharonaaa@reddit
I believe you and I can see the charm in them… from the 90s when you couldn’t just look up a music video online. In 2023, though, theyre just not as good as the plot (in my opinion)
KJSS3@reddit
What about DVDs?
Own_Atmosphere7443@reddit
The only ones that are on Paramount Plus are the new seasons and the first movie. Even do the universe isn't on there for some reason.
Odd_Information4917@reddit
Pluto TV
m0rdredoct@reddit
They have the Mike Judge Collection with some not in the Collection somehow.
silverfang789@reddit
Probably rights or some BS like that.
mirennatom@reddit
Because paramount plus is trash
Chaghatai@reddit
I would watch an entire season of Jersey Shore if it had Beavis and Butthead commentary and editing
wtfomg77@reddit (OP)
I loved their jersey shore reviews. Honestly if I'm familiar with what their reviewing I enjoy it. But most of the stuff they review on the old seasons that's streaming are songs I've never heard of. I was too young in the mid 90s to remember most of it. I also wish they would put their review segments between story segments instead of cutting off the storyline
Big-Elevator2491@reddit
Ikr they even have all the episodes from celebrity death match missing too.
jpak88@reddit
They totally said they were gonna remaster and stream the entire old catalog, too. Whenever they were hyping up season one of the new show. And then it just didn't happen. Sometimes they'll say "more episodes streaming" but to save my life I can't find what 2 or 3 new episodes they must've added.
