Ok so I'm broke down for probably a week waiting for a new differential and my company wants me to get into another drivers truck until it's fixed. Now i am somewhat a germaphobe and ocd when it comes to cleanliness. Last time i got in another driver's truck for a week i hardly slept due to the smell of smoke and wondering how many bed bugs were crawling around on me. Yeah, my mind wanders at times lol. I barely got any decent sleep because of the feeling of sleeping in a undanitized truck. I know this sounds weird but i am who i am. Question i am asking is, is this something i should stick to in my decision to lose a weeks pay, or am i being a princess lol

If you feel strongly about not using another driver's truck and can afford it, take the time off. However, your employer isn't obligated to provide you with a spotless replacement vehicle. It would be nice and considerate, but it's not a requirement...and it sounds like they don't actually keep/have access to a lot of backup vehicles. Bear in mind, if you refuse to work because of the vehicle, it could be grounds for discipline: they still have to pay for your benefits, various insurances, etc. If you have vacay/PTO available, using that would likely supersede any action that way on their part. I'm not suggesting they WILL do any of that. but it's their option.

Yeah i had found work for the week here on the local potato farm but i'm too fat to fit in the small old truck between the seat and steering wheel. They are in the works for something for me as they don't have any trucks right now anyway. Going to be a month before my truck is fixed.

My ass would be running down parts, getting greasy with the mechanic, and fixing that fucking truck...hell. might actually learn something about it too.. Dude, I work for whoever is paying the most. Left that gig 3 or 4 months ago after I capped out their commission scale of $9k per month for 6 months. Working an oilfield hauling job currently for $3k a week. I'll do this until the rates drop. I have 6 other opportunities lined up when that happens. I demand to be paid what I'm worth and I can do that because I fucking hustle. I know what I'm doing son... sounds like you need to get a clue.

If I owned the truck I would. If it's a company truck get stuffed. This is a transactional relationship. You pay me. I do stuff. Extra stuff = extra money. Labour ain't free. Our company leases through Penske. One of the pluses, for them, is if the truck goes down, we can get a temporary replacement. My dispatcher pulls his hair out every time we need a PM on my truck. Why? 'Cause the Penske here is VERY busy and always takes an extra day (sometimes two) before working us in. Told ol' dispatch that I'll take time off rather than move all my stuff AND my cat into a temp truck for an entire week when MY truck will be done in a day or so.  Now, if the truck will be down a week, no problem. But a day or two? I will take time off, paid or not.

The way i see it is i have no idea who picks their nose/scratches their ass/coughs/sneezes etc and the touches the steering wheel, knobs, etc. i tell my dispatchers that if they got a hotel for a week and it was CLEAR that the room wasnt cleaned from the previous guest, they’d be pissed. Why would i do that to myself?

I've been experiencing the same thing lately as my regular truck has been having a shit ton of problems. I was in a temporary truck for 2 months, back in my regular truck for a week, and now in another truck for going on 3 weeks. Should be back in my regular POS late next week Anyhow, with the first temporary truck I moved everything in since I knew it was going to be a while. I moved my mattress, because like you I couldn't sleep in someone's old nasty mattress. Deep cleaned the truck as best as I could. Also voiced my disappointment to the company that they gave me a dirty truck to get in With this temporary truck I'm in now it wasn't so bad. Just vacuumed it out and it cleaned some stuff. It had a brand new mattress so I didn't have to swap again. I also didn't move all my stuff because I didn't know how long it was going to be. So I've been pretty much living out of a bag and living off truck stop food. I know, expensive and not healthy

When I got my truck, I cleaned every inch of it my first weekend out. Personally, I'd like to work, so I would clean as much as you're comfortable doing and hit the road. Unless you are getting paid to wait for your truck, but do what you have to do.

I was putting in my two weeks at a company. Truck died on day two of the two weeks. Brought me another truck to finish the run. Smoky, dirty, janky piece of shit truck. Aye the run, I parked that bitch at the yard, gave them the keys and said Peace! I'd rather watch my grass grow than be in that dirty stinky truck for another week and a half, especially right before my new job started.

If you can afford it and not take too much grief from the boss, take the week off. Hell, I sleep up top just because I can’t hot bunk. And don’t get me started on how long a strange truck takes me to clean before driving. I’m a good driver so my boss puts up with my OCD, but not everyone is so lucky. When I take my two weeks off he only allows one other manager to drive mine, if necessary. It usually sits or gets serviced while I’m off. Oh, and I wear black nitrile gloves in the truck, so don’t worry about being OCD. It beats being a disgusting driver.
