The Ukrainian “Malyuk” bullpup rifle, a more recent AK conversion design used by the Ukraine special forces

I’ll never understand why so many bullpup AKs keep the typical style of safety, which becomes absurdly awkward to use, when the Norinco Type 86S showed that this sacrifice was unnecessary decades ago

Because AK designers are picked based on nepotism, not on actual skills or even gun knowledge.
The last guy working on AKs that was actually talented was Mikail Kalashnikov.

There's a pic of a presumably Ukrainian soldier with both one of these and one of Russia's "wonder AKs", can't seem to find it though.
Edit: here it is
Aguacatedeaire__@reddit
What is a "wonder AK"??
You mean the AK 12? The absolutely normal, standard modernized version of the ak platform?
Then why do you call it "wonder"?

Very COOL it looks like the AK47 and the AUG had a BABY! :)
SO this rifle has a closer line to the Tavor than the AUG? since Ukraine Minister defense had a license to build Tavor-21 and the Ukrainian version was the Fort-221 in 556
AMRIKA-ARMORY@reddit (OP)
That’s correct. Also, because the rifle is much more AK-based while the AUG is a totally unique system that I think is closer to one of Eugene Stoner’s designs in operation if I recall

Very Cool! Too bad that a Semi auto version is not being imported into the USA I would love to own one!
VinlandF-35@reddit
Same

Many of the cool toys are out of the USA and I keep hoping that they will magically show up someday!

It looks like it kinda fucks, honestly. Anyone with firsthand experience?
IDatedSuccubi@reddit
I think the only people with that experience are kinda busy right now.. but what I can see is that the position of the safety is really awkward
imdatingaMk46@reddit
Someone else said it only acts as a selector, and that there's a cross bolt safety to block the trigger.
I kinda assumed Ukraine would have exported a few, but entirely fair
VinlandF-35@reddit
Hopefully after the war they will because I want one
imdatingaMk46@reddit
How did you comment on a two year old thread? It should be archived by now lmao
VinlandF-35@reddit
I guess it’s not archived yet or something? Idk.
abutler84@reddit
I've seen numerous pics of Ukrainian SOF using these. My guess is that if you are moving about a lot in civilian vehicles getting in place to ambush another convoy and want a silencer these are just the trick
steve-rowland@reddit
wishing we see these malyuk kits come to the states post end of the “special military operation” would love to build a recce style rifle with a m72 as a base and this thing , modern day tabuk rifle
VinlandF-35@reddit
I want one myself aswell, just as a completed gun and preferably with the iwi suppressor
DavidinGA@reddit
Much want...Anyone know if we might see these in the US at some point?
AMRIKA-ARMORY@reddit (OP)
Best bet is probably from the r/fosscad community, I strongly doubt these will ever be exported or domestically made
