What is a car you love, that everyone else seems to hate?

I will go first, the Buick Rendezvous, I think it is one of the best looking cars of the early 2000’s

My dad had an '85 suburban, 4wd, 350 small block. 3 row bench seats. That thing could fit 9 people and more cargo behind that than a compact suv, and tow a trailer. God damn, I loved that truck

I really really love the VW Phaeton, only 85k built and not sure if it was ever available in the US but dang, that thing was available with a W12. Its a luxury limousine / sports car / wolf-in-sheep's clothing all while being your reliable VW ride for everyday use.

View on Reddit #9894189

Rare-Wolverine8566@reddit

People who dont like cars :P No srsly I just assumed that based on the prices I'm seeing on the secondary market. You'd get a solid Phaeton for a handful bucks, compared to other cars with same/similar year and mileage. The other extreme is imo the G-Class where they take 60k no worries for a 2004 with 100+k miles
View on Reddit #9907064

hoonigee@reddit

Phaetons werent known for their reliability lol
View on Reddit #9834886

Rare-Wolverine8566@reddit

Certainly, especially compared to other VWs. But it's hard to compare a W12 vs. 3.0TDI with regards to reliability. And ultimately, that surely is a reason (beside the astronomical fuel consumption) that they discontinued the line. Sales were always behind S-Class or A8 or BMW 7
View on Reddit #9837043

funnyfarm299@reddit

In the USA, luxury cars sell because of the brand name, not the features. A luxury VW was always destined to fail here.

Prius. Is it fun? No. But it’s as good at being a regular appliance car as a GT3RS is at being a supercar. And despite what some people say, there absolutely is a place for appliance cars, and I think true car enthusiasm embodies not just being enthusiastic about fast cars, but also well built, well designed appliance cars. Plus, the new one looks awesome

This is how I feel about my toyota venza. Doesn't look that great, isn't super powerful, but it's really utilitarian as far as being able to switch from hauling kids to hauling tools and stuff from the hardware store. Keeps me from having to fire up the old truck as often as I used to.
View on Reddit #9872962

I have a Prius and I like it overall but no way do I love it. The system is more complex than other normal vehicles so it there is battery related problems etc. I don’t like how it rides as it’s not smooth at all and it’s super slow. I never really got high mpg on it either(I drive it pretty conservative too). Only way that’s possible to me is if it’s very new and if you drove with the mindset to be super efficient which why would you want that little stress while driving.
View on Reddit #9861839

sfeicht@reddit

I think it's one of the best cars ever made from a practicality and reliability standpoint. If you live in an urban environment and take the occasional long road trip and like to be able to haul a lot, its the perfect car.
View on Reddit #9848328

Calm_Chair_7807@reddit

The Prius is also insanely reliable.
View on Reddit #9839095

AvarethTaika@reddit

Agree to the point of hybrids and appliance cars, not the Prius specifically. For example, my latest project car is a Honda CR-Z, which is a very weird car but generally speaking is a hybrid (stock, at least). Even with a few mods and a lot of repairs, it gets 42mpg, or 36 if i really thrash it, and can very easily switch between high mpg cruiser and touge competitor. But the Prius' stigma is more around the marketing Toyota used and influence they got from celebrities' use of them in the late 2000s. They're not particularly pretty, their aero and thus higher mpg really only applies at highway speeds which most Prii don't do often, there were a lot of mixed messages from the celebrity use of them, and they were often touted as green or eco friendly despite very much not being such, at least no more than any other vehicle. The prius took the L but paved the way for the rest of the auto industry to catch up to, but its stigma remains. I feel like it's going away though, especially with the Prime and newest generation. The C and V were kinda... weird? But good steps in the direction of making it more publicly "good". The advent of hybrid powertrains in other cars like the civic and camry made them less stigmatized than a purpose built hybrid like the Prius, and then supercars like the p1 came along and showed hybrids can take any form. I think hybrids also paved the way for EVs to a degree.

I love the 2008-12 Ford police Interceptor. Big, comfortable, gas efficient (25mpg highway for a 4300 pound V8), and safe.
