Am I missing something? Looking for cheap flights to Asia.

I’m looking for cheap ways to get from Texas to Asia (preferably China, but I’ll take Vietnam or similar). I have always known that Asia is a cheap place to travel too (outside a few select cities). I’m looking at making a first solo trip and I’m looking at plane tickets at 1,500 bucks round trip. Am I missing something? That seems rather expensive and doesn’t match all that I’ve heard over the last several years. Am I going about this wrong or is 1,000 - 1500 the cheapest way to get over there?

If you are flexible then it should hopefully be under $1k. I just did a flight to Singapore then Malaysia then back to NY for a total of $951.

How did you find that!?

Yeah it’s probably gonna be over a thousand. It’s way improved and more accessible than for all prior generations (how many Texas-born boomers have you met who’ve even been to Asia in their lifetimes?)
You’re paying for a near-guarantee of perfect safety en route to the opposite side of the earth, decently timely departure for yourself coordinated with 300 people, a highly skilled staff, moving 500+ miles per hour 35,000’ off the earth, consistent experience, etc.

Considering that the first time I went there was with a bunch of older Texas ladies (they handled all the logistics) I’d say quite a few. In fact I know more boomers who’ve been to Asia than haven’t, my parents went when I was a toddler, my aunt lived in Korea, also there were a bunch of wars in Asia that took thousands of boomers to Asia. Also by no means is this more accessible than all other generations considering we still have Covid restrictions and China has cracked down on expats visas regulations. It’s also not cheaper now that’s for sure! If your gonna be snarky and not helpful you should probably at least know your subject buddy.

The fact you made this post on here and complained airfare to Asia is expensive shows how little you know. Then showed interest in getting an online job on the way back Lmao. You must be young, and broke af.

Hey bud, do you always go digging up year old posts to yell at people? Is that a hobby for you? Like you had to dig this post up. You searched for this post. You doing alright? Did you get enough love as a child?
ExpressPlatypus3398@reddit
Found it completely randomly asswipe. Because planes, fuel, maintenance, airport fees, etc all cost less simply because they’re flying to Asia. Did you find your $200 plane tickets from Texas yet? LOL

Right you found a year old post “randomly” while searching for it. Your mother must have forgotten you at the hospital. Did you just get fired that’s why your scrolling through last years Reddit?

I live in Texas and have taken multiple trips around asia. I find cheap domestic flights to LA, stay with a friend one night then LAX to Bangkok or LAX to Vietnam is usually the cheapest north america to asia route. Use google flights explore option, input a couple different cities you would be able to fly out of then you can scroll around the map to find the cheapest deals.

LAX to SGN (Saigon, Vietnam) one way for 390 in August.

Also- why you going to china?

That’s exactly the advice I was hoping to hear! That makes sense too! I’ve always had a fascination with China and I would love to go back. Was there for a month but was with a group teaching English and didn’t have the freedom to do whatever I wanted. So I want to go solo and explore.

I just did a quick search on Google Flights. One Way $464 to Saigon or Bangkok.
You can earn money online for the return trip home. Worst case scenario is that if you find yourself unable to afford the return trip home, the US will take your Passport but send you home, you have to repay them to get the right to re-apply for your passport again as soon as you do.
My friend found himself in that situation in London, UK.

What kind of online jobs would you suggest?

I flew a small city to Hồng Kông Jan 2020 round trip for less than $600. 4 other trips pre Covid all under $1000 round trip.
