IT Certifications with perks? (Other than just resume padding)

I was having a conversation with a friend, his employer is sending him to take a training class that costs several thousands of dollars and the class is *required* to get the certification. In my friends case, he is just lucky his employer just has a generous training allowance, and my friend is using it to pay for a required class to get the certification. There's no advantage to his employer. But are there any IT Certifications out there that are worth getting because it benefits me and/or my employer just to have them, other than just resume padding and bragging rights? For example, a discount on software licensing, support contracts, etc? Priority support queue?

For me, Dell certs are useful because you get to skip first tier support, and you can order your own replacement parts without even having to contact support if you know what the issue is. I will say the tests are annoyingly awful and have lots of blatantly incorrect answers, but it's not too hard to pass regardless.

The obvious outcome is that the only way to study is to use dumps, which I'm assuming Dell is fine with if the goal is to market "certified people" rather than skilled people.

Expert level Cisco Certifications. (CCIE and CCDE) Cisco Resellers & Partners receive deeper discounts and other perks by having more Experts on their payroll, or associated with their Partner ID. There are resellers in the wild who will pay you as a "consultant" to associate your CCIE or CCDE ID with their partner ID. I have no idea what the fair market value is anymore, but $50k/yr used to be a value I've heard as a baseline. You don't have to take calls, or work tickets, or even contribute to projects. Just let a VAR tell Cisco CCIE 1234567890 is associated with us. As a Cisco CCIE, your tickets skip Level-1 support (unless they did away with that in the last reorg).

There are less than 300 CCDEs on the planet. There are 4 people who have all 8 CCIE variants. I can only imagine what their bill rate is per hour.

Individual certs don’t usually help the employer. However if the employer is some manner of partner to a 3rd party such as Microsoft, VMware, Veeam, etc then various partner levels will often require $x in sales, y# of certified staff, etc. so in those cases it helps. I think with my Fortinet NSE7 and Veeam VMCE I end up in a different priority support queue if I call in. And pretty sure the NSE7 also get access to demo environments and labs (not training, but customer POC type stuff, or for building scripts or validating builds/compatibility) but I haven’t had time or reason to get them. Fortinet also has (for employees of partners anyway) FortiRewards that will pay the certified person for each exam passed. I leveraged the hell out of that a couple of years ago. Company pays for all exams and materials and Fortinet sent me a prepaid visa I think for like $2000 (some might have been for doing POC demos I don’t recall my breakdown).
