Public pool was my babysitter

How many of you were dropped off at the public pool for hours when you were a kid so your parents could go do whatever but had no babysitter? My sister and I spent lots of time there. All the life guards knew us well. I think it was pretty normal in the 80s. Now at my local pool there’s a sign that kids under 8 must be with a 16-year old or older person so I only see kids 9 or older without parents. We were definitely younger than 8.
