What is the ideal time to purchase a ticket before a flight?

When are flight prices usually cheapest?

Late to this thread, but I’ve been using a website called fare dip, and what happens with them is when you book a flight, it refares you automatically when the price goes down and you get the difference as credit, or it sends you an email and you can rebook (you can choose the option), and that way you don’t have to worry as much about the timing of when you book. I think there are a bunch of competitors as well but fare dip is free rn

Hello! Something i learned from some travellers. Try to buy tour tickets from another country/state that you are travelling to or from. Or use a VPN.

You’ll get cheaper prices changing your location to said destination you’re traveling to?

No, I consistently book flights for my long distance partner and I back and forth, and flights to him are almost always cheaper than when I book flights for him to my location.

Same, looking to book tickets for my gf to come this summer (US to Canada) and tickets for her to come here are $300 more expensive than for me to go there the exact same days lol

I feel you. It’s really frustrating since my state has a lot more things to do and we both prefer being where I’m at, so it being more expensive for him to come here sucks -_- btw, in my experience, booking right about 2 months ahead of the trip is the sweet spot for cheaper flights :)

Oof yeah that sounds annoying! Price is worth it in the end but would be nicer the other way around haha.
She's planning on coming here at the end of May and I was planning on holding out a little longer to see if they go down so that's good to hear! Thanks :)

Best of luck! I hope you guys have an awesome time; I’m seeing my man in two weeks and you’re certainly right, the price is worth it :)
killakam33@reddit
What country or state is it?
I have the same issue where i live
Any-Tale-4692@reddit
We both live in the domestic U.S.
killakam33@reddit
Ok so it would be a good idea to switch the location on where you’re buying the tickets to trick the site to think you’re in the other location or would that not work?
Any-Tale-4692@reddit
From my personal experience, using your own location (the place you are departing from) either makes no difference or it actually decreases the price. I have no idea how it would be internationally, but if you are making flights within your own country (let’s say the US for example), it probably will make no difference switching your location.
killakam33@reddit
Copy that. I ask becasue someone in this chat mentioned switching locations for cheaper prices but it seems that won’t work like you say.
nynameisslimshady@reddit
How do you change your location
killakam33@reddit
Change it to what? Another state? Or country?
I’m in Puerto Rico. So I would change my location to California for example and purchase the tickets I wanted to?
dksk3443@reddit
yeah but don’t do cali it would be more expensive
Linusami@reddit
Definitely before the flight, for sure.
