VFR Captains

This question pertains to Part 135’s. Are VFR captains permitted to fly in IMC? Or are they permitted to fly as long as the destination wouldn’t require an approach in IFR conditions?

If the OpSpecs allow for a leg to be declared a pt 91 leg then I don't think there would be a problem with the FAA, the insurance may be another issue. They would not be legal in any way if the flew imc (at anytime regardless of whether an approach was needed or not) while acting as a 135 capt unless they had the 1,200 hours etc al and a 135.297 ride (instrument). I think it is admirable of him to try and help out low time pilots but he is walking a fine line.

I mean for it part 135 VFR checkride you’ll have to shoot an ILS to demonstrate it if you got into a hairy situation. Now you can’t fly imc in normal operations strictly vfr

I too thought it to be common sense and plainly written, but as stated in my reply to the other guy my Part 135 neighbor is a DO who is planning on doing exactly that with low time guys in Caravans. He claims his POI is fine with his interpretation.

Just because someone has a title doesn't mean they know what they're doing. Anecdotally some of the most dangerous and illegal shit I've heard coming from DOs, specifically of smaller 135 ops.

I agree with you. My neighbor is a Part 135 DO, who does not agree and wants to run low time guys on Caravans.

Well, he should ask his POI before he does. That sounds pretty stupid and illegal to me.
