Went to a CDL in Tupelo MS called TDI
Wk 1 you’re in class learning basic of trucking and trucking industry
Wk 2 you’re either driving or learning maneuevers and pre trip
Wk 3 is same as week 2. Sharpening your skills and backing manuevers to test the following week
Pros: Met some cool peeps. 5-6 classmates and instructors would game together after school.
Got to know classmates and even exchanged numbers to keep up with each other in our trucking journey
Laid back instructors. Stern when they needed to be.
school +training was good. Just not worth the $5k-6K.
Total was $5500 Luckily I only spent $3500 outta pocket with a $2K grant from my local WIN JOB CENTER
There was 1 instructor on the range while the the over 2 practiced driving with us.
While on the range wk2 and wk3 students would practice manuevers in TWO trucks while. Auto and manual
Have to wait your turn. If you’re not in the truck you were drilling pre trip or listening to other students repeat it over and over. (If you fail pre trip, you didnt do jack squat)
People who tested in automatic practiced in automatic while the manual testers practiced in both.
Me and 1 guy decided to learn how to operate the manual truck on the range so we had more time to practice maneuvers than those who just practiced in automatic.
Im writing this after passing my test a week ago and grabbing my CDL yesterday with doubles and tanker endorsements. Waiting on Maverick to give me a start date.
Initially I thought, If I had to do it all over again I would go str8 to company. Only reason I didnt was because I heard weird, scary, and crazy stories about companies cutting into your check, training with bad driver trainers, getting stuck MILES away from home because dispatch gave you BAD or NO loads and companies “PURPOSELY” keeping you away from home time.
Few days after that thought, I thought to myself, I would come to school again because I learned some things trucking companies DONT WANT NEWBIES TO KNOW, met some cool ass people that made the experience 5x better and were from DIFFERENT WALKS of LIFE. You’d be surprised who comes to trucking school.
