When I was under-age, I used to go to the pub a fair bit with my dad, he'd be buying of course. His biggest wish was for when I turn 18 for me to "be able to buy him a pint". By the time I was 18 he was unemployed and would always text me to see if I was "coming to see him" after he'd spent all day in the pub, and was now out of money and knew I was passing through. He's now disabled and can't drink

He's dead so I think it'd bring the mood down a bit. In all seriousness I don't know anyone who takes their dad to the pub one on one. You'll go for family meals and stuff, if there's any sort of event you'll drink with them but one on one? Fairly uncommon I'd say.

I can bring down the mood twice, my dad's dead and also was an alcoholic :) Never really went for a pint with him sadly, although would have loved to. I love reading stories on here about how people go for drinks with their old man, great stuff. He's passed now but it used to be somewhat regular (after I had moved out). How often was largely dependant on where I was living and where he was working. There was a point in time he basically had to walk past my flat to get his train home after work, he'd stop by quite a bit and we'd invariably end up at one of my locals chatting absolute shit and sharing jokes we'd heard. Sometimes also a bit of light debating on current events. Just pints though, rarely ever a heavy session and heated debates over serious topics. The few of those we had invariably wouldn't end all that well.

Usually every weekend, I've got a "best mate" type of relationship with my dad which is how I prefer things. I've had many mates come and go over the years (I'm 22) but my Dad's never failed me and I know nobody is getting any younger.

Before he died, we would have coffee frequently. He didn't drink so we had coffee rather than a pint. Occasionally we would go out for a meal together.l, just the two of us, usually to some dive, just so we could see if the food was any good and have a moan together about it if it wasn't, or be pleasantly surprised if it turned out really nice. It's one of the things I miss the most, now he has gone. I ran my own business for nearly 15 years and had very little spare time. I then sold it and we spent more time together in the year after the sale, than we had ever spent in the preceding 10 years. Then he died. Life can be cruel like that sometimes. I like to think the timing was fate's way of giving us some quality time together before he had to leave this world, and for that, I will always be grateful.

My dad has 4 girls so I have been to the pub with him but one of my brother in laws is usually there. He often goes for a pint with them, my BIL who has a dad, regularly goes with him. Today however they have gone sky diving as you do… I’m sure the pub will be calling after that lol

Tbh he's not much of a drinker after dying of stage 4 kidney cancer. Before that regularly. I'd only ever see him a couple times a year and it always involved many many many beers of which was standard for him. Absolutely not standard for me. Pub at 11am. Few pints. Bit of shopping. Lunch. Couple pints. Nip home get some dinner? Change of clothes. Pub from 6 till 10. Another 3 or 4 pints. Never saw him pissed. The man was a different gravy. He grew up in the southwest where drinking 10 pints of cider working the farm was pretty standard still. Never a binge drinker, but he would be rock solid after double digit pints throughout the day. A habit he never really grew out of. Usually they were 3.5 to 4 percent ales. Always a beer education with him. I kinda miss it. He wouldn't be doing it today with the price of drinks in pubs... especially as most of the proper pubs have gone. Wasn't the same finding a spoons and drinking the same shit. Ahhh the good old days. I drink maybe 2x a year and only a couple these days but I may need to see if I can find a good ale tonight in memory of the old boy. Thanks for making me think about this.

When I was younger, my old man would meet me at his local after work on a Friday. We'd have a few, I'd stay over at the parents and usually stay to watch the F1 quali the day after. Was a sort of ritual for years. He doesn't really drink much anymore so it's only on the odd occasion these days.

I don't live near my dad at the moment but if I did I'd happily go for a pint with him, particularly if there was football on that we could watch. There's not much of an age difference between us though, he was 22 when I was born, so there's not too much of a generational gap between us.

I went to bars with my dad from when I was like 16. He used to work the doors so it made it easier I was also 6ft at 12 so no one would think about it too much. M I enjoy just going for a beer in the evening if I’m free with my dad, not a lot of people have that dynamic with their parents and I think it’s cool

Never. With the way my relationship was with my dad it would have been an absurd suggestion. The other day I was out with my teen daughter and I spontaneously took her into a pub beer garden and she had a lemonade and we shout the breeze for half an hour and I could see she really got a lot out of it and I hope she will want to do stuff like that when she’s an adult

When I was younger and a pita I would go for a drink with my dad once a week to build back relationship! Now he's died I'm so glad I did! Went on a stag do few years ago, the stag and I were sitting at loudish pub, his dad went to a different quieter pub, he said to me I've never sat in a pub and had a pint with his dad(his dad rarely drank), I told him to go do it and we'll meet up with you guys in a hour or so You should do it, see your dad in a different light when your both adults enjoying a pint, in a neutral setting getting to know each other as just two grown men

My Dad passed away suddenly a few years back, I’d love nothing more than to go out for a couple of beers or glasses of wine with him. Didn’t do it nearly as often as we could or should have while he was around, so if anyone is thinking of not doing it because it’s weird or unusual then think again.. do it before it’s too late. Have daughters of my own now but hoping when they’re old enough they won’t be too embarrassed to go out for a drink with their old man!

I don't know if I've ever been for a pint with my dad. We might have gone to the pub for a couple when I turned 18, but it wasn't very memorable if we did. We fell out when I was 18, so I moved away and even though we're more or less on speaking terms now, we still don't see much of each other, so going for a pint isn't really an option.

I've never done it. Parents separated when I was 7, moved \~50 miles away with Mum. Saw him less and less frequently over the years. I came out as gay which seemed to further distance us - he didn't react "badly" about it, but just felt like things got awkward after that. Probably due to his mildly homophobic jokes etc he used to make - never maliciously, but I guess you could say he was definitely a product of his generation watching 70s and 80s comedy poking fun at "poofters". See him occasionally these days, but he's pretty much teetotal due to diabetes, so tends to just be coffee with him, his long term partner and my sister.

Roughly twice a month I’ll meet up with my Dad or Dad & stepmum in a pub, we’ll have a few drinks in a few pubs, maybe get a meal. It’s a good way to catch up and keep in touch.
