Small turbo engines are making me hate driving stick

Recently went back to smaller car with a stick and loving it. Ended up with a Mazda3 which has a pretty nice shifter and clutch action, but mostly the non-turbo engine is very predictable in its response which makes rowing gear that more intuitive and "natural" But wanted to get a turbo Civic Si and... the god damn turbo lag just took all the fun out of shifting. Every time you shift, unless you drive like a psychopath, you lose boost then it needs to build back. Makes you want to just put it in one gear and let it's do its thing... which is what the CVT kind of does. Tried also a VW with the 1.4T, same lack of predictability. I'll say this though, when the Civic Si gets on boost, it's a lot more fun than my Mazda3, but then you quickly reach redline and have to start over again in a different gear.
