What is the second most popular sport in the UK?

Assuming football is the most popular sport, what comes next? I imagine it’s Rugby or Cricket. But rugby support is diluted by the union/league divide and cricket isn’t that popular in Scotland and I’ve noticed from a few questions about The Hundred that a lot of Brits haven’t got a faintest clue about the sport. But then there are other sports that are popular during big events like Tennis during Wimbledon or Golf. F1 gets an enormous crowd for the British GP but has still got quite a niche following.

Noone seems to realise that horseracing is a sport! But it is and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was even more popular than football!

Nope by all measures football is flatout the most popular sport. I really whats up with horse enthusiasts being so sensitive about horse racing's popularity in the UK to the point of fulling stuff out of nowhere like this? Even if its the most popular spectator sport (which it isn't), thats stilla far cry from most played sport as well as most compettive league. The day when most 13 year olds at a school in a poor neighbhorhood in England are following horse racing obssessively on TV and the itnernet and reading horse amgazines at lunch is the day you can justify having this assumption...... UNtil then its silly you even came up to this conclusion. Especially when even minors who are not interested in football spend far more time on other sports such as rugby, cricket, badminotn, and auto racing.
