Is it possible that the A330 replaces smaller aircraft on shorter routes?

At least on the USA some airports are at capacity flight wise and there is an hour wait to take off at some times. Those airports are also the ones that are too expensive or impossible to expand due to the city around them. Is it possible that some airlines will replace their 737’s or a320’s with the a330 for shorter flights like east coast to west coast or the middle of the USA. The last 30 years we had narrow body jets replace wide bodies but is it possible that the trend reverses in the near future?
