I bought a boat from Pwllheli a few months back and got some work done on it and sailed it back up to Northern Ireland at the weekend there, absolutely beautiful coastline. Bit of a bumpy ride sailing over Devil's ridge and around Barsey Island but to be expected. Looks like you had a lovely sail.

That area can be pretty nasty. [I put up the information I have on sailing through Bardsey sound](https://sailingsilvergirl.com/posts/richard-smiths-guide-to-sailing-through-bardsey-sound/) should you find yourself sailing through there again.

Very useful, thank you! I really enjoyed being in Pwllheli, I got a lot of work done to the boat post-purchase by Firmhelm there and they were fantastic. Spent a few weekends back and forth doing work and would love to come back and visit again

I like Pwllheli, it's quiet around the marina, the marina is generally clean well run and theres just about enough stuff in town should you need anything. Plus the marina is council run so all the money goes back into the community in some way. I've spent a couple of winters hauled out in Firmhelm's yard and quite a long time working on the boat myself. I like them, the work they've done has generally been very good quality, I've just had problems actually getting them to do it because they're so busy. This past winter I asked them to do a list of I think 4 things, they did 1.5 (I asked them to drop the rudder and check/replace bearings/bushings, they didn't they just oiled the steering cables so that's the 0.5). That was pretty annoying given I was out of the water for several months paying for yard space and cradle rental. Anyway, they just need managing I guess. Let me know if you're in the area again and I'll say hi!

Gorgeous. I'm just about to move my boat from Southampton to Caenarfon. Looking forward to some different sailing.

Mike from ["Sailing co I love it"](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBczX15IcXx0OqhqwlUtJjw/videos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=0) has quite a few videos where he visits places around Cardigan bay and Ireland, worth checking out if you're going to be sailing in the area, seeing someone else enter a harbour has helped me a lot. Also, [I put up the information I have on sailing through Bardsey sound](https://sailingsilvergirl.com/posts/richard-smiths-guide-to-sailing-through-bardsey-sound/) should you find yourself sailing through there.

These conditions, wave state, wind are amazing to me. Where I sail (Pamlico Sound) I feel like every time I go out, it's a fight for my life. I feel like I'm going to dismast at any moment. I can't remember ever seeing these type of conditions. What I would give for just a few days of exactly this!

Yeah, we're really lucky where we are, a few times I've been sailing in the Irish sea in relatively string winds with swell, and we've turned a corner into Cardigan Bay and the conditions have become tranquil. It does get rough sometimes, but we do get some really nice sailing days.

This past weekend we drifted from Pwllheli to Harlech and stayed overnight. This video was from the return trip on Saturday heading upwind, 15-20 knots apparent close hauled. It was a fun sail with beautiful weather!
