But it makes sense to get experience that supports your future aspirations, right? Little point getting 6 months experience in a puppy torturing factory if you want to be a vet (though the resulting anatomy knowledge might be useful...) my thinking is, you have academic and on-job experience already, so why not apply to companies that need that? And if you're asking about more general, broader tech experience, then 'anything'. Just start applying. I'd take any job going, with a focus on something that's very sector or industry-based. Basically, something that has a USP that future employers could hook onto, OR a company name they'll recognise. For example, doing 6 months general IT support for a local dentists office is about the money, even if you get lots of hands-on experience way past your paygrade. Doing 6 months IT internship at a large accountancy firm pays less, will actually give you less practical experience, but will give you a better CV, AND the likelihood of a job offer down the line. Similarly, employers like to employ in their own sector, so having civil service experience is a massive 'in' when it comes to applying for a full time role; that accountancy placement would look good when applying to large corps, etc. Smaller agencies will prefer that you've worked at the local dentist and been more exposed to real world issues. So you see - what you want to do in the future matters 😄
