Whenever I see these threads pop up, people often say their dealers accept bank transfer. Those dealers are very stupid and the people paying are also stupid for going with it. Known quite a few people end up inside for that.

Interesting-Chest520@reddit

I dated a guy whose stepdad was a financial crimes officer or something of the sort. It’s very obvious when this is being done, especially when (this happens all too often) references are used such as “totally not weed” and “drugs” This guy was also my source of weed for a few years
View on Reddit #87707673

What are the odds though, of some edgelord sending his mate a bank transfer and calling it drugs?

I've never known a personal use buyer go inside, but have known few dealers do and it's always the *dumbest* mistake conceivable. One absolute chestnut muddled numbers and sent drug ads to his vet.
View on Reddit #87660115

tcpukl@reddit

How do you both know so many drug users?
View on Reddit #87693160

Orange_Codex@reddit

Drug control is class warfare. There is a peremptory medical case - made by [The Lancet](https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(10)61462-6/abstract) \- that cannabis, psychedelics, and cocaine are no more harmful than tobacco, and significantly *less* harmful (overall) than alcohol.
View on Reddit #87728499

Temporary_Ad_986@reddit

Not true. Cocaine kills people. Stop writing bs.
View on Reddit #87782717

Orange_Codex@reddit

So do alcohol and tobacco, much more consistently and in much greater numbers. That's why the world's most prestigious medical journal says so.

I grew up in a rural Lincolnshire town. Drugs are rife there. A few of the people I grew up with got into it pretty bad. Some were dealing (3 of which ended up in prison) and a couple of them are sadly no longer with us.

M'lud appears to not to have considered that the recipients of such payments can arrange their banking so that a neutral and unincriminanating name appears on the payer's statement. This would minimise the chance of domestic ructions. I'm sure m'lud would wish to avoid any such events. Of course, if the payments to the neutrally named recipient were of such size or frequency to attract atention, m'lud may find himself banished to sleeping in the stables.

Taxis - they take card, but they grumble about it. Beer tents and food stalls at outdoor events. About 80% will take card, but you need to have cash in case they're one of the 20%, and if you've withdrawn cash I'd rather spend it than have cash I won't spend sitting around for perhaps another month, Splitting cost with friends or repaying friends - so for example an organisation a friend was involved in was doing a raffle, I said to him to get me tickets, then the next time I saw him I gave him the cash.

Where the amount is not exact they then give me the difference in a combination of notes and coins. I then leave the establishment and head about the rest of my business for the day.

Festivals and conventions, especially the outdoors ones. I do carry my card but always helpful to have cash with you. That many people crowded in the space of a field or two, internet signal can get jinky really quickly, so a couple minute transaction can easily turn into a 15 minute transaction whilst you both desperately try and get the card machine to work.

To ease something in some form but I'd at least rather it went to a local small business (which will stay pay tax in various other ways) than a large tax dodging company like Amazon. I know which one I feel is doing it more ethically whatever the law says.

View on Reddit #87647123

People keep saying about tax dodging but I have never had a full and satisfactory breakdown of how they actually do it. Not in any systematic way anyway, the Chinese probably takes a wad of cash out of the till which goes down the cash and carry or into wages. The money doesn't touch the sides and avoids the tax on that, but it is not a sinister way to get rich, it is just easier. Probably run by some old couple who have always done it that way. They'd probably get richer if they took card and therefore expanded their customer base. I like paying cash as much as possible for small things, helps keep a track of spending and I don't have fifty transactions on my card for a single drink or whatever.

There are apps that you can plug in bills and who paid for what in groups, it then works out who owes who at the end. Can then do a simple transfer or paypal. Problem with cash for that kind of thing is people need change.

I’m aware of that and use it with different groups of friends (Splitwise is the devil) For this group of friends, cash works better. For other groups, PayPal is fine. I was simply answering the question posed by the OP

I never use just eat. We actually have a bit of a game at home where I'll go collect an Indian (or order one of I've had a few) and then my girlfriend prices it up on just eat and I have to guess how much more it would have been. Everything, as far as remotely practicable. Cash is king. Whatever your thoughts about the autocracy of the *current* government (I am a big Palestine fan so know better than to screw around...), the downsides of purely digital currency are so extreme it should not be built. "If there's even a 1% chance..." type of logic. Also, I don't care if local businesses want to avoid tax. Major corporations avoid tax. Nobility avoids tax. Landlords avoid tax. So if Mr and Mrs Pilates or Boss Man at Kebab Palace want to avoid tax too, that's between them and God.
