This sounds wrong enough that I wouldn't buy new hardware yet. A 5600X and 4070 Ti should absolutely not be taking seconds to load character models in WoW. I'd be looking at the SSD first, especially if Windows or the game is on an older drive that's starting to fail. Low CPU/GPU usage while everything feels slow is usually a clue that something else is holding things up. I'd check drive health before spending a dollar on upgrades.

Before you remove the cooler for a repaste, turn on the PC for a couple minutes. This will soften the existing thermal paste and make it easier to remove the cooler.

Absolutely. A 5600 should idle around 35C with a $35 Phantom Spirit. If thats its temp idle, it's definitely thermal throttling under load. At peak temps, I'd probably see the mid 60C range with a 4070 Ti Super. Do not run your computer without a CPU pasted. Even POSTing it without paste is often non recommended. I always use MX-4, though there are better ones out there for similar/better prices.

HWInfo64 is my preferred monitoring software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is my preferred malware scanner. If you haven't dusted your CPU cooler in some time, especially if you have pets, smoke, or the PC is on the floor, I would start there. Don't let the fan spin too fast.

Like people stated ... this is bad. If you have aquarium type case remove the side panel, check if this helps by a lot. Bad case, not enough air flow can lead to high temps, never seen so big jump, but i did see a 20deg drop without the glass.

Other people here are saying that you should maybe upgrade your CPU cooler but to be clear, no stock cooler working correctly will result in a Ryzen 5 idling at 91C. Your CPU cooler is 100% not working correctly, either because the protective plastic is still on the bottom of the metal contact, there is no/bad thermal paste, or the fan is not spinning.

It's popped loose and is not making proper contact, from the sounds of it. That is indeed the issue; you need to re-paste and re-seat it. Any store that sells PC parts should have thermal paste, and the old paste can be removed with isopropyl alcohol. Can you provide a picture?

Yes, that's absolutely the issue. Your CPU cooler is not cooling correctly. Re-mount the cooler and replace the thermal paste, or consider upgrading if you're on the stock cooler and/or you have an AIO that you suspect might have failed.

In regards to the CPU temps, check your fan is running on the CPU, if it is then take the cooler off, clean any dust out of the heatsink, clean up the thermal paste with isopropyl (99% or as close as you can get) then reapply fresh thermal paste, you can get Arctic mx-5 or mx-7 fairly cheap and it's good stuff. Put it back together and if that doesn't fix the issue then you need a better CPU cooler.

IT'S THE COOLER! I had these issues with Star Citizen (ironic) years ago and thought it was just the game being the normal buggy mess it normally is. Then i hopped into Elite Dangerous, which used to run smooth, and it also was running like garbage. My water cooler stopped pumping and my temps were ike 90+.

Post more info. What’s the Task Manager saying? What type of hard drive is the game installed on? What’s your RAM speed, as measured by windows? Check your startup services. Are there things in there that you don’t use? If so, disable them. Double check that your video cable is plugged into your graphics card? (Just wondering since usage seems low, but oddly too high for this to be the case. Just double check.) Back when I was playing WoW, on an i7-7700k, I also used to get loading/stutter issues. Turned out to be that 4 cores on my processor wasn’t enough anymore for WoW + all the apps I was running in the background. You probably don’t need to upgrade, but if you want to, the 5800X3D is a good in-place upgrade for your motherboard. 2 extra cores plus 3D cache. Probably only a 25% ish boost to average FPS, but a larger boost to 1% lows (less stuttering).

Oh man, that will do it. If you’re cooling with an AIO, it means it’s probably dead. If it’s air cooling, check for excessive dust buildup. If there isn’t dust buildup, and the fan’s working, check that your case isn’t choked by dust. And make sure you have good air intake. If all of that’s good, you may need to reseat your air cooler and apply fresh thermal paste.

I dont have thermal paste right now however I will pick some up today and see if that resolves the issue. Yeah, you need paste. Ping back and let me know what your temps are like after the thermal paste is on. If it’s still overheating at idle, the IHS may have separated from the die. You can either replace the CPU entirely, or do some surgery to open up the IHS and replace the stock paste, but that’s risky and a pain in the ass.

OP, you can download Malware bytes and just quarantine everything it finds. You could also check for any startup apps that takes alot of resources, you must disable anything that isn't being used. Lastly, your SSD might have alot of bad sectors causing slow down and lag issues. I don't have any experience in fixing this yet but I know you can fix SSD problems with free apps you can download. Your PC is like 30% faster than mine and it should not have any issues with the games you play whatsoever.

A 5600X should really not hit 91C even at most loads, much less at idle, those CPUS tend to run cool unless you REALLY push them, which 99% of even modern games don't do. There is clearly something wrong with the cooling. Check to make sure that you actually installed the cooler correctly, that you put on paste, that you didn't accidently leave some kind of protective plastic on before installing it, etc.

You may need to reapply thermal paste. It dries out over time and becomes crusty/ineffective. When you open Wow, does your CPU reach 95C? If so, the motherboard will automatically start cutting power to the CPU to stop it from burning itself up.

What cou cooler are you using? If it is an AIO, it could be failing. Check Task Manager for anything running that looks suspicious, high usage memory or CPU. Use the resources tab and show all CPU cores to see if one or more is very high usage

This sounds like Thermal Throttling, Check your CPU temps using HWInfo64. WoW is not a demanding game. and you have modern parts. Even if you were using a HDD, WoW was designed around that technology. Did you build this computer or buy it? Also are you plugged into the GPU? or are you using the Port on the Motherboard

The first thing I would check then is Temps and Clockspeed. If the temps are high, Thermal throttling results in Either very high temps, Low clock speeds, or both. The Max operating temperature for that CPU is 95°C. and the Base Clock speed is 3.7Ghz. If your CPU is running below 3.7GHZ in Task manager when running a game then this more than likely the problem. It sounds like to me, the CPU is thermal throttling for whatever reason and needs to have new thermal compound reapplied. But if the temps and clock speeds are ok then try then next steps: Step 2: Ryzen 5000 and 3000 series processors had microcode bugs years ago in windows and the BIOS. One of them was firmware based TPM would stutter and lag the whole system . A bios update should fix this issue but there are also discrete TPM modules you can get that also fix this issue. Another bug related to USB ports/PCIE lanes, causing stuttering and issues across a whole windows PC. again BIOS update fixed these problems. determine your MB manufacturer and download the latest BIOS to a USB drive, then use your boards Flash utility to update the bios ( it should be pretty easy to find in the bios, Some motherboards support internet based Bios updates from the BIOS directly) of course update windows after all of that and test again. If the GPU is the problem most of the time, GPU's will artifact and you will see some weird stuff on screen.

1. Is your monitor plugged into the gpu? 2. Your cpu is idling without anything running at 91C?? If the fans are blowing, I would make sure that the cooler isn’t actually just some rats nest of dust. Dust it and the rest of your pc. - if that is not the issue, then it’s likely thermal paste. Try wiping the existing off with isopropyl alcohol and applying new paste. If THAT doesn’t fix the cpu overheating, then idk what would. If you have a liquid or AIO cooler, then likely the pump or something has gone out. I had a friend whose cpu was overheating and crashing the pc within seconds upon booting into windows. Everything sounded fine and all the numbers looked right except the temperature. Threw on an air cooler for him and suddenly everything worked fine. The pump in the AIO quit so it was circulating the liquid.

well that really fucking high i got a 14700k with take a LOT of w and im at 40c . the connection of the cpu to the cooler is the problem. and there are 2 things really old thermal paste or the plastic on the bottom side of the cooler (the place that touches the cpu) still has the plastic cover on it

yea get thermal paste and apply it in X shape, also a good paste from my experience is the artic mx-7 if u got money u can get smt like thermal grizzly. Before applying new paste, clean the cpu surface and the cooler surface use cloth and i recommend using isopropanol alcohol (makes the cleaning easier and faster) then apply the paste in X shape on the cpu and mount the cooler mount it in order where u apply same presure on all sides so the paste spreads correctly. that means screw a bit then go to opposite side then up of (or down) that then opposite again. do few round. also sorry for my bad english

My cousin had a similar issue with Fortnite. Your CPU is thermal throtling. Check the thermal paste on your cooler: Make sure there is not a piece of plastic between the cooler and CPU If you have an AIO, check to see if it is making a clicking noise. If it is, you have air in the system and it needs to be orientated correctly, refilled, or replaced. If you have an air cooler, get a duster and clean the dirt out of your pc

I have an i9 and a 3070ti and if I put WOW on ultra settings it never really stutters, but my GPU runs hot. Which you'd think it would be the CPU being it's got a ton of old single thread code still. But my CPU never gets above 30% use but my GPU will touch 80%.

I downloaded HWiNFO and my CPU is idiling around 91 degrees. Safe to say this is really the problem maybe? The fan is working, I'm not sure what is causing the overheat on CPU specificalyl.

Uh... idling at 91? Yeah, that's the problem. Ideally under max load you would still be below 91. It's like your fan isn't doing anything at all. Could be thermal paste issue. Also if you're using the stock can and have to repaste anyway, it's very much worth getting a better fan.

What do I do here?” Yes! That’s a problem, your CPU is thermal throttling like mad. What CPU do you have? What is the CPU voltage per HWinfo? You may need to buy a thermal pad or thermal paste and re-paste your heatsink and CPU. Heat from CPU goes through thermal paste/pad and into the heatsink, if thermal transfer material breaks down and gets dry, it won’t conduct heat to heatsink very well.

I just checked - definitely no plastic between the cpu/fan, I unscrewed it. It was absolutely full of dust, I cleaned it and put it back on. I dont have thermal paste right now however I will pick some up today and see if that resolves the issue. I started it up just to see what would happen and after startup it goes to about 95 degrees and stays there. My CPU is AMD Ryzen 5600X. It shows 65W tdp, i am not sure if thats what you mean. Is it worth getting a totally new fan maybe?

Thermal paste goes between CPU and heatsink. It sounds like the issue is there if CPU goes to 95c quickly. My brother has a 2600X and his CPU shot to 95c quickly. The pump had died on the 120mm AIO water cooler. You can watch sole YouTube videos on re-pasting. I typically put a dot in the center and try to evenly set heatsink in onto CPU and clamp it down evenly.

Cpu temp? Monitor plugged into graphics card and not monitor? Compouter loaded with malware and crypto miner maybe? Boot from a linux live usb and if everything runs smooth you are best wiping your windows and reinstalling it.

yes, 91 degrees idle means you don't have CPU cooling at all first make sure the fans on CPU cooler are plugged in and actually spinning if it's an air cooler, uninstall it, check if there is any plastic at the bottom, clean it up, re-apply fresh thermal paste and re-mount it if it's an AIO (liquid cooler), also check if there is any plastic at the bottom. If it's clean, that means the pump is probably not working, and you need to replace it.

Your cpu shouldn’t be idling at 92C either you have really bad airflow (no intake fans) or you have a case that is completely closed with no place to disperse the heat or your cooler isn’t making contact correctly with your cpu

Not a GPU problem, shouldn't be a RAM problem. MMOs are quite CPU heavy as far as gaming goes, and they benefit a lot from X3D CPU's due to the extra cache. X3D CPU's are quite expensive right now, though, may not be worth it if it doesn't solve your problem. Have you checked your Internet speeds/stability?
