CinemaSins isn't criticism through, some regarded person half watches the film then makes up a bunch of reasons why it sucks, rinse and repeat for infinite YouTube updoots.

Watch... well, anything of his. He showcases some very clear favoritism and bigotry in almost every video. CinemaSins uses that "it's just a joke guys!" line as a handwave for their awful takes. It's a very "Everything I say is a joke, it's just satire... unless you agree with it. Then I'm serious." type energy coming from his channel. I also remember a common criticism they receive being a lack of legitimate separation between their "character" and their genuine opinions.
View on Reddit #87584047

AmaterasuWolf21@reddit

How does he uses bigotry? I've seen some comments on his videos where it's the opposite
View on Reddit #87584535

UsErnaam3@reddit

One thing I can point out is his conservative connection to gender roles and the way he downplays the roles of female characters while also judging male characters for not being "man enough" and stepping up where the women had to.
View on Reddit #87584772

KillerMiller13@reddit

Now you're making things up. It's not like I'm an active fan or anything but I've watched probably like 50 videos, I've never once noticed him downplaying the agency of women or saying characters aren't "man enough". Give an example or get out.
View on Reddit #87602176

UsErnaam3@reddit

"Or get out" you really thought you did something there. How self absorbed are you that you think I'm gonna sit there and watch anything more of his just to prove something to you? You watched 50 videos of his, don't call yourself a fan, and can't find one of the most blatant things I have noticed back when I watched them.... you might just be inobservant and a bit in line with his opinions too much to notice.
View on Reddit #87619075

KillerMiller13@reddit

All this garbage, just so say "trust me bro". "Like there'd ever be a reason for me to make this up". Yeah, because no one on the internet lies lmao. if it's so blatant, point me to a section of a video. Not to mention insulting my character is absolutely unacceptable. I'm trying to get a source from you, and you start insulting me. "Unobservant". "A bit in line with his (supposed) opinions", basically calling me sexist. That's so low, damn.

Cinemasins was never ironic except in the beginning. His first videos included some jokes and some actual editing errors like a camera guy in the view. But then it became nonsense especially his videos that are 20 min +
View on Reddit #87587112

LeatherDescription26@reddit

The long and short of it is the joke criticisms aren’t funny and they do a shrodinger’s douchebag but instead of offensiveness it’s about how serious the criticism is. Also if you watch some of there not EWW videos they make it clear that they’re trying to make some broader point about Hollywood but iirc they’ve never explicitly said what that point is aside from “unoriginality” which is a conversation the people who run that channel are not capable of having because frankly it requires a lot more intelligence than they possess
View on Reddit #87584420

bunker_man@reddit

View on Reddit #87580705

FinaLLancer@reddit

Humorous and ironic criticism is fine but a lot of times they just straight up lie about what's happening in the movie to ding it. Which, again, would be fine, but they're kind of the movie popular movie criticism channel and too many people take them at their word.
View on Reddit #87580549

C-130Hercule@reddit

he’s schrodinger’s movie reviewer. if you agree with it, it’s honest criticism. if you disagree, then it’s just satire.
View on Reddit #87580469

ParadoxicalEnigma92@reddit

It didn’t use to be. When it first came out, it was about legitimate issues and plot holes with movies. Now it’s pretty much just nitpicks and call backs to their own jokes and they’re wrong on things they “sin” because it’s obvious they didn’t actually watch the movie, just had someone write them a script. It’s like if you were trying to use a Webster dictionary to find definitions and all the definitions were from urban dictionary instead and then a lame joke.
View on Reddit #87580451

View on Reddit #87596789

romulusnr@reddit

I mean, CinemaSins is a gag. But honestly a gag that has gotten over the top more and more as time has gone on. They really stretch. I seem to remember earlier on that they weren't so stretchy and just literally found the flaws, but now coming up with bullshit non-flaws (and flat out lazy mistaken ones) just to inflate the flaw count seems to be the new thing, and I found it increasingly dishonest and stupid where at first it was gratifying to see things called out.
View on Reddit #87588780

TheDeltaOne@reddit

The "bing" count has to go high and they have running gags to cram in. People liked the flow, it was always about the the rythme of those videos. It has to go "bing" every few seconds and the cadence of the way the guy talks has to be the same a lot via catchphrases for the flow to work. It's a very 2015 type youtube format where the running gags and catchphrases work and are prevalent. Movies are tropey by nature so it was easy to coin a few of them and rotate them whenever the trope or the same repeated writing crutches appeared. It's not hard to do, you can play a drinking game while watching any Hollywood movie and you'll get drunk. So a 5 to 8 minute video is easy enough to manage. But because longer youtube videos became more popular and because they had coined a few catchphrases that are no longer prevalent (Blue Lasers in the sky or Anna Kendrick), they went with longer videos and crammed more and more "sins" to go for the longer runtime and use as many of their catchphrases pool they could. That what people liked. Except even with veryt tropey, bad movies you can't find 20 minutes of stupid shit to say. Everything Wrong with The Room (from 2013) is a 8:30 minutes video. Everything Wrong with Weapons (from this years) is 21 minutes long. One is about a catastrophe of an indie movie and the other one is about a pretty good horror movie featuring Tommy Wiseau. Yes they strech it. But people taking it seriously are insane. Yes, they have stupid takes on a lot of movies but also, the format is fucked and they have to find non-existant sin to ding and make it work. And it's insignificant. Nobody who watches those videos are falling for it. I don't think they do at least. I don't know what they get out of it because it stopped being funny a long while ago but they don't form an opinion on movies from "The ding channel".
View on Reddit #87609655

romulusnr@reddit

Well but that's part of the issue, it used to be you could take it sort of seriously, when they weren't overdoing it.

View on Reddit #87598413

Pumpkin_Sushi@reddit

Nah its just the same problem in reverse. Hell, Toxic Positivism has probably done more harm in the last decade than whiny critics have cause the industry backs those shills.

Pumpkin_Sushi@reddit

I dunno if CinemaWins specifically has industry backing, I dont know who that is But yeah, the kind of "Just have fun, let people enjoy things, if you're critical you are a hater" critics are the ones getting backed by the industry.
View on Reddit #87613242

ZenPyx@reddit

That isn't really the point of that channel. He mostly just talks about interesting bits in movies, points out parts of bad movies that have a good premise, or interesting cinematography, or a cool behind-the-scenes story. I don't think he's trying to get people to watch X-men Last Stand (2006) as like... an industry ploy... I think it's moreso highlighting that even the worst movie can still contain labours of love I think it's a bit weird to go around calling someone a shill when you don't even know who this guy is, and instead, using it as a chance to push your strange agenda
View on Reddit #87613524

Every time CinemaSins is the topic of some conversation/thread/whatever, everyone always says something like "CinemaSins is a wackjob and he shouldn't be taken seriously because all his points are super exaggerated!" Correct me if I'm wrong bevause it's been years since I've watched him, but doesn't he literally leave that as a disclaimer in the beginning of every video?
View on Reddit #87581815

John_isnt_my_name@reddit

Jermey (guy whose runs it and is the voice) can put a disclaimer, doesn’t mean it’s true. When you go on minute long rants on minuet details it starts being real criticism. That wouldn’t be a problem if the ‘plot holes’ weren’t just explained later in the movie or sometimes even before. He can’t be both the dumb idiot who makes bad jokes and exaggerates everything and a valid critic at the same time. He barely plays dumb anymore either, it’s just “Bitching About ____ for Over Twenty Minutes.” Plus he’s super egotistical. There’s a rant video where he acts like he’d be the greatest screenwriter ever and Hollywood blackballs him because he’s too good. Like no, you can barely convince HonestTrailers to collab.

He's Schrodinger's Critic. If he points out a legitimate flaw in a film it's because it's a genuine mistake and they're super serious critics bringing light to poor quality media. But if it's misinformed, explained away or straight up wrong then they're just a bunch of goofs making a silly video for laughs and you shouldn't take what they say seriously. They've also expressed some pretty awful jokes/views like sinning every Harry Potter movie until Deathly Hallows because "Emma Watson isn't old enough to be hot yet" (*she was* ***11*** *in the first film btw*).
View on Reddit #87585902

pinwroot@reddit

CinemaSins is so devoid of actual criticism but rather so caught up in nitpicking that it serves no true purpose besides an attempt at being edgy. At least CinemaWins tries to celebrate movies. The thing is they blur the lines by saying that they give legitimate criticism and blatantly lie about the films they criticize. In Pacific Rim for example the kaiju Leatherback has an emp weapon that it uses to disable the giant robots called Jeagers. One of the Jeagers, Gypsy Danger was immune to the emp. The mean that Gypsy was still able to fight Leatherback. The first thing they do is rip of the emp and CinemaSins gives the film a sin for Leatherback not using the emp and shows clips from after the weapon was torn off.

I mean in this case with an original that has 3.6 million views on a channel that is currently at 111k subs (broadly as a rule of thumb you expect a video to do about the same or a bit below your sub count in views, I'd imagine it was money. Also, it did 4.1 Million views for a sequel, so it was a good call.
