Better by Design?

I am posting this to highlight that we are heading towards 4 billion deaths this century due to climate breakdown. I live in Milton Keynes whose official strapline is Better by Design. This is especially unfortunate given that its car based, low density layout and high growth rate makes it one of the least sustainable cities in the UK.
For example, no other uk city has most of its main roads with 60 or 70mph speed limits. The council is proposing to reduce the speed limits in just a few sections due to high accident rates. This has created lots of complaints from people because they won't be able to drive across the city in 15 minutes anymore. See 4billiondead.org

And it is trivially 4 billion deaths this century. probably twice that. that's how maths from an aging population of 7 billion by Millennium eve generally work out, no matter what.
Clear dihydrogen monoxide exposure symptoms. Also learn to drive.

If you don't like one of the key selling points of Milton Keynes, or are apposed to one of its fundamental design pillars, with all due respect, please go and live somewhere else.
...or get a license, because its obvious you don't have one.

person with a driving license here 👋 no city should be designed around cars. people live in cities, not cars. it was an experimental city and it is clear that the experiment has failed
as the climate crisis gets worse, cities should look to move towards greener transport solutions. a city designed for cars is the opposite of this

Go live somewhere else where you can LARP.

i lived in mk for 20ish years of my life. i held this opinion even when i lived there!

I’d add that, yeah, the transport system is pretty painful to use and yeah, sometimes buses go mysteriously awol and, yeah, they could have lcd’s on all bus stops with bus updates.. (although there is an app)..
But for cars, getting the 3 miles or so into centre of town in MK is 5 minutes or so, compare that to 30-35 minutes of chugging out car fumes in zone 6 in London.. MK might be the city of the car (possibly bike, too, but it’s no Amsterdam) but it could be worse

Possibly bike? It's great for bikes! I hardly use my car to get around the city since I discovered riding a bike was good fun even just to get somewhere.
