PC, Steamdeck or Laptop

In the current state of prices what would be worth my dollar to do. I have a ps5 but I enjoy the freedom and increased opportunity from pc gaming. Would getting a gaming laptop be more worth and cheaper than building rn? Or would a steamdeck be the simpler option.

i’d sell your ps5 and get a really nice gaming laptop. most likely when you get into pc gaming you’re never going to go back to ps5 and the laptop is a good investment because you can use it for work and school. for a while i plugged my laptop into a monitor and its pretty comparable to my desktop pc now

This is just my bias opini9n a pc is the way to go i started my pc journey when im 16 today I work in IT and havent changed my views on it you dont need to spend thousands to play at 1080p get you the bare essentials and you can bet set around 400-500 leave the gpu for last and even better if you buy used youll save even more.

What kind of games do you want to play? If your focus is more on indie games or older PC games or even emulation, then there is a whole world of handhelds out there that are a fraction of the Steamdeck, and quickly catching up in power. AYN makes the Odin2 Portal which has a beautiful 7" 120hz OLED screen and can play Switch games as well as almost any indie game all for $250 at the base model price. There is an Odin 3 model that is newer, but has a far more powerful chip. With SteamOS coming to ARM chips via the VR headset Steam is putting out, we will get better drivers and I would expect these handhelds to get even more capable.

PS5 is the best value (performance at that price)
PC offers better value than laptop and Steamdeck.
Laptop offers a full PC experience in a portable package with a battery, but at a higher cost. If you need mobility, get a laptop. If you don't, then desktop is better.
Steamdeck is a handheld gaming device.
Which one is best for you is entirely your opinion. They all exist for a reason.

Indeed, if you need something robust and bring joy to your life, PC is the answer.
With the additional point listed by beeikea, you have the optoin to seel your computer down the line if you want to build again from the ground up.

this is the answer. another note is that building your own PC means you can replace parts when they stop working-- you can't really do that in any of the other options, at least not at a price that'd make sense.

At these prices I'd rather just play games on my phone, there's plenty of options available. Just play Balatro for 1000 hours instead of dropping 1k on a steam deck

Each offers something unique in what they deliver.
If you want portability, a laptop or steamdeck are the only options. If you want to play multiplayer games with your friends that might need windows only anti-cheat, then the laptop might be the best bet.
If you're looking for something to game on at home beside your monitor/tv then pc is the best option. A laptop might have parts with similar names to their desktop counterparts, but they are nowhere near the same level of performance. A desktop 5070 smokes the crap out of a mobile one. A quick google shows the difference can be upwards of 50% better.

PC and a Gcloud handheld

A Steam deck is obscenely expensive for the hardware that’s actually in it. This question is completely dependent on your budget and how lazy you are.
