Anyone else have a Pandora account they can't let go of?

What the title says. I know it's not the same Pandora from back in the day. When I first created this account I think it was still in beta.
I fell in love with being able to discover new music based on songs and artists I loved. It was my first experience with an algorithm lol.
Now I think the platform is going downhill but I just keep holding on to it.
tunaman808@reddit
Nah. Back when Pandora was at its peak, I was a big fan of modern synthpop, and that was one of Pandora's weak spots. I guess they hadn't "scanned" many of those artists yet, because I could enter almost any 2005-2018 synthpop artist name - like Marsheaux, La Roux, Kero Kero Bonito, School of Seven Bells, Christine and the Queens, Let's Eat Grandma, Shura, Allie X, Crystal Castles, M83 or others - and Pandora would always recommend the same 12 Depeche Mode, OMD and early Madonna songs.
So, no thanks.
sev45day@reddit
It's my primary source of music.
I don't like how some stations seem to become locked into the same 8-10 songs or so when you upvote/downvote.
But, I have discovered a lot of new music, which is great. Umphreys McGee, Paper kites, sick puppies, explosions in the sky, the Wailin Jenny's.... I live under a rock apparently since the 90s so it's great to have a source for music I missed along the way

A good female trio to check out if you like the same quality but with a bit more grittiness and twangy country bend into Americana style, check out Pistol Annies.
Emkems@reddit
yeah I’ve had the same station for like 18 years or so and it does get “stuck” sometimes. I can’t remember my strategy for getting it unstuck. Stupid peri menopause brain, I’ll update here if I remember
Yuck_Few@reddit
Pandora just plays the same songs over and over
Kodiak01@reddit
There are plenty of options in the app to expand the playlists.
Kodiak01@reddit
I still use Pandora daily. There are still selection options for deep cuts, b-sides, similar genre, etc.
I'm currently expanding out from a string of hick-hop artists to mostly female artists of the surrounding genre, ones like Savannah Dexter, Katie Noel, Tanner Adell, etc.
Right now the internal debate as to which breakup song has the more biting lyrics: Adell's FU-150 or Noel's Jim Beam; the latter is certainly much more forward and explicit in it's language but Tanner manages to throw in the subtle dick size joke that would still clear the censors.

I rage cancelled my subscription and switched to Spotify after hearing the grating, nails-on-a-chalkboard ad for Graze snack box subscriptions for the 379,648th time. I’m convinced that they encourage advertisers to make their ads as annoying as possible to get people to switch to paid subscriptions.
DocSportello1970@reddit
I had Stock in Pandora that I finally let go of....because it never made any money.
Does it even still trade? Did it ever get over $40?
OldGoneMild89@reddit
I still use Pandora once in awhile when I want to mix things up. They do a lot better job at playing a big variety within a genre compared to Spotify, who seems stuck on playing the same things in a maddening loop.
Spotify DJ might as well be like "hey check this out, right now I'ma play the same songs that we see you've listened to hundreds of times, because you like it and now you can like it some more"
threeespressos@reddit
As soon as Spotify came out I left Pandora. I had learned to never tell Pandora I didn’t like songs, because the algorithm would quickly devolve into a CCR channel, help! 🤣
Mr_Writes@reddit
I'm not giving up my Pandora "Dad Rock" channel for anything!
cultvignette@reddit
Still use it almost daily.
Most of my stations end up turning into Daft Punk, tho lol
Dark-Wolf-Angel@reddit
Yup. It's my music in every room with a tv. I love being able to curate stations. I've found stuff I didn't know existed.
Emkems@reddit
Yes! I’m a millenial (‘86) and I started a pandora station in college when pandora was still really new. I still listen to that station since I can’t even describe how perfectly tailored it is, plus it adds new stuff in there. The Pandora app is getting worse and worse, especially if you try to use it in carplay. I can’t let go though because any attempt at recreation of my original pandora station would feel hollow somehow. I’ve actually tried it on Spotify and then switched back. Not the same.
Top-Caregiver-6266@reddit
I love Pandora and not planning to give it up any time soon. My main gripe is that my bossa nova station inevitably morphs into reggae, which drives me insane and no matter how many reggae songs I downvote. I like both genres but not at the same time!!
LobsterLovingLlama@reddit
Why would I get rid of it? I use it daily in the car
JD_MathFuzzy@reddit
Pandora and XEXP are my two main sources of music
PhillNewcomer@reddit
It's my main music streaming app since 09. Never used Spotify, Apple music or YouTube music. Tho I did switch to SiriusXm for a short time when I got my car.
sunshore13@reddit
Use it when I’m at the gym.
msmean2@reddit
It is my main streaming source. Sometimes I don't pay much attention to what comes on. One day my college age kid got in my car and said since when do you listen to 2chainz. I laughed, idk it just popped up. I do wish it varied a little more, added some newer stuff. I had started a new station when the one I was always listening to got pretty repetitive, and now my current station is almost exactly the same and no matter how many times I try adding INXS I never hear it.
Character_Ad_1084@reddit
I still use it but would like to switch. it pays the artist the least among all the streaming music platforms
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit
I love pandora. I’ve found so much great music I’d never know of otherwise because of that app. I tried Spotify and couldn’t stand it.
Subject_Doubt_3778@reddit
I love it. I pay for it. I don’t want to have to make a damn playlist, I just want to pick an artist and show me what you got. We had planned on just paying for a month of Pandora for a party and ended up loving the lack of ads.
9inez@reddit
Not that I’m paying for…or have used in quite some time.
NoArrival5220@reddit
Still using it today.
KKSlider909@reddit
+1
Black_Pill_Oh@reddit
I use Spotify. It's not perfect but at least I don't get ads
Illustrious_Leg_2537@reddit
I’ve found that after a while Spotify goes off the rails. “Oh you’ve listened to enough 80s alternative for now. Have some 1950’s crooners instead.” No thanks.
TheButtDog@reddit
I love that I open the site and it just plays music I like.
I’m not confronted by a colorful wall of podcasts, marketing promotions and feed of endless recommendations
Comfortable_Fruit847@reddit
I still use it today. I tried Apple Music, I tried Amazon Music, all on a free trial. Didn’t like any of them.
MRHaynes021@reddit
Pandora’s algorithm just ‘gets me’ better than Spotify. While I don’t use it everyday I do still enjoy it and the ads are at least tolerable for me.
Mewsie93@reddit
I'm in the same boat but pay to not get ads. I have my channels (or is it stations?) that I love. Plus, I don't need to set up playlists or anything like that.
Xiad6682@reddit
I use Pandora at my office (Dental). I hated radio and pandora let me curate a station that has interesting stuff but also let me nix things that people complain about. I make a new station every few years and shuffle it in with the old ones.
GargleToes@reddit
Yes, my Boomer neighbor across the street that blasts it loud many days of the week. Bob Seger/the Eagles/Fleetwood Mac again?
KookyComfortable6709@reddit
Using my Pandora right now!
Bob_12_Pack@reddit
I use it all the time, I don't even mind the occasional ad, it's still better than the obnoxious radio ads.
Responsible-Bee1194@reddit
Yup, not broke, don't fix it.
GigiDeville@reddit
I ditched mine a long long time ago. All of my channels ended up being the same so I gave up. I am sure they improved it since then.
Upbeat_Ant6104@reddit
I'm starting to get that feeling, too. And even when I move to a something new, after about 10 songs, it'll end and start playing my default kinds of things, like classic rock. I just use the free version, though.
Terrible_Opinion1@reddit
Nope. They still all bleed together.
Sumeriandawn@reddit
Huh? I have over 240 stations , plenty of variety. I never get bored.
SpamLikely404@reddit
Pandora knows my music taste better than I do. It’ll be playing in my nursing home room while I smoke weed and play video games.
soifua@reddit
Same
VeniVidiVici_19@reddit
Me! Everyone tells me I’m in the dark ages, but I seriously spent months maybe even a year or two perfecting the algorithm to my radio station. It only plays stuff I love or at least like.
I don’t feel like going through the effort of doing that again with a new service. So until Pandora completely fades into oblivion I’ll probably still use it.
Somber_Goat952@reddit
Exactly
Somber_Goat952@reddit
Me!
dzbuilder@reddit
It’s the only streaming music I use, daily. My two music sources are Pandora and the 90+ albums downloaded to my phone.
Princessferfs@reddit
I still listen to my playlists on Pandora
adriftinthedesert@reddit
Use paid version every day. Love to find new music, create my own playlists. I feel too old to learn a new platform 😆
kathink@reddit
Same. I've used my account for about 22 years now. I love it. It will play things that I forget I loved.
7eregrine@reddit
I'm one of the very first Pandorians. Back when they started I was invited to a local panel to discuss it. I did not attend, but that was cool to be asked.
Yea, I still have that account....but don't use it.
Briaaanz@reddit
Pandora finally fixed a bunch of app problems after several years, so i went back to it.
I like that it introduces some a bit of variety; i actually found several artists i love thanks to them.
Hraka@reddit
Paid for Pandora since 2008. The best way to avoid playlist bleed is to never to thumbs up a song--collect it instead. The collect option, as best I can tell, does not influence the algorithm, whereas the thumbs up does, pushing what was a distinct list of styles towards a mushy middle.
xannieh666@reddit
I used to love Pandor, but I haven't been on it in ages. I found the radio button on Spotify that does the same thing pretty much and just never went back.
rb3438@reddit
I still use it occasionally, maybe a couple of times a month when I'm being lazy and just want something in the background. I never had a paid account, ads seem about the same frequency. I have noticed that the songs seem to blend together. 80s rock sometimes plays 80s country and vice-versa.
carolinagirl2019@reddit
I like Pandora but the frequency of the ads if you don't have premium is annoying. Also, the songs are so repetitive. I have Sirius for $7/month. Ad free, although the songs can get repetitive as well.
SmokedPumpkin@reddit
I just used it yesterday. What’s causing you to say it’s going downhill?
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
A what?
ValgalNP@reddit
I still like it
HildaTheChickenGirl@reddit

HermioneMarch@reddit
I still love Pandora! I have curated playlists or put it on discover to find new artists. Not sure why I need to start over at another subscription service.
hernwoodlake@reddit
I have like 20 different channels for various moods and needs. I listen to it every time I sit at my desk.
But I also still got DVDs from Netflix until they ended that. When I find something I like, I’m ride or die.

plemyrameter@reddit
My husband. It's annoying because he has a premium YouTube account (that's all he watches), and we have the family version because I use YT Music. He could do the same for no extra cost. Does he? No. He'd rather pay the $80/yr or whatever for Pandora because it's a habit.
servostitch@reddit
I still have mine. Whenever I'm in the mood for some tunes but too lazy to pick some out, I will I ask my Alexa to shuffle my stations on Pandora. Long ago I maxed out the number of favorites artists you can have so I get a pretty random assortment of tracks.
Pug_867-5309@reddit
I just started listening to Pandora about a year ago. What's going downhill?
TheSwedishEagle@reddit
Yes, and I have no issues with Pandora.
fshannon3@reddit
Same here, when I first came across it it was supposed to help discover new artists. It's been a little while since I've fired it up but I still do have an account and will listen to it to mix things up.
drowning_in_cats@reddit
I am relatively new to Pandora and I love it. I regularly switch channels between drastically different and it keeps things spicy (Enya vs Def Lepard).
MistressBassKitty@reddit
Right there with ya 🤣
