80-90s digital dashboards

Hey everybody! I’m looking to start a project car and I really like the digital dashboards from the 80-90s that looks futuristic. I know that C4 corvettes and the 80s Nissan 300zx has those dashboards. I love the 300zx dashboard but I’m leaning towards the c4 as I prefer the car as whole. I’m trying to get recommendations about those cars or any other cars yall know that have those digital dash boards.

Subaru XT the digital dash is just the beginning of the 80s weirdness.

Subarus had some pretty sweet digital dashes in the 80s. The Conquest/Starion twins were also available with a digital option. But virtually every one I've seen since sitting in that one in the showroom back in '89 has had analog gauges. I guess it was a really rare option.

Both cars are fairly easy to work on and you can get both a z31 and c4 in running condition cheapish

I got couple of z31 and c4 near me that are going for 3.5-5ish thousand and I’m really debating on buying one of them

The other thing to consider with the Z31 is that it's a car around 40 years old that never got much of an aftermarket following. It's going to be a project in the truest sense because unlike others there aren't a lot of bolt on parts if you want to do upgrades or modifications. What's out there is usually stuff that people are making in small runs so they are expensive. Even regular maintenance parts are drying up and you don't see them at scrap yards much anymore.

I've had both and still have my z31. Very fun cars in slightly different ways. Both drive like boats but with the top off and the dash glowing summer nights it's unbeatable

Just speaking on the Z31, the rest of the car isn't bad to work on, but those digital dashboards are awful. At this point solder joints and other components in the electronics are failing regularly. You can sometimes fix them, but it will just be a matter of time till something else fails. I got tired of dealing with it in the one I used to have and tore it all out for aftermarket gauges.

Meh I got a few friends that have resoldered and added new LEDs and they work fine

C4 Corvette or an old Nissan are what I really want for a project car. I would love to get a 300z or a 280z or a 240sx or really any old Japanese sports car.

I've always been partial to the 80s toyota cressida digi dash. The AE86 and supra had their own too, but you are probably talking bigger money for those.

I picked up my MX83 last year I absolutely love the digital dash. I just need to figure out wiring to keep the dash with the swap I’m doing

Supra digital dash was only available on the JZA70 in Japan I think, so you're going to be limited to RHD specimens.

I don't remember the history of the Supra very well, but pretty sure the MK1 and MK2 had one, all the clusters are more than likely swappable with some rewiring and electrical know how. They do get a little funky with the digital fuel senders generally, some one in the AE86 group sells a converter now though. The toyota digital dashes use an digital 0-5v fuel sender instead of an traditional resistance based sender. I know for fact the cressida has a weird value for the dimmer pot thats difficult to find, but you can wire it to always be on.
I did pinouts for a conversion for the x7 cressida in the FB owners group.
