Where can I recycle beauty empties?
Posted by azaman92x@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 72 comments
Hey all,
I have been using the boots recycling scheme since 2024, however they don’t take certain things like shampoo empties, shower gel empties, shaving cream empties, body spray empties. I’m not sure if they take perfume empties either. Now I know it’s probably because you can recycle them at home but I do not drive and the recycling point where I live is not accessible for me.
I have a big bag full of these items that I’d like to recycle, and get some points/money for them.
Does anyone know of any other schemes in the UK like the boots recycling scheme that I can use to recycle these products please?
Thankyou in advance.
Weekly-Practice-8614@reddit
OP no need to be rude. You want money for things that you cannot get money for, that’s the answer whether you like it or not I’m afraid to say.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Lol I didn’t ask the question out of thin air. There was a scheme with look fantastic that DID take these said items but they don’t do it anymore hence why I’m asking if anyone knows of anywhere else. Simple.
The people in the comments were rude to me. I was polite and ignored the comments at first but why should I if people comment unnecessary and silly things that they could’ve used common sense to just scroll on by if they didnt know. Crazy right 🤩💀
YouSayWotNow@reddit
Because recycling has moved on quite a lot in recent years. Whereas businesses may have once paid some pennies for your items, they probably don't bother now because *most* people either do recycle at home or are able to take their recycling items to a place that accepts them.
Recycling is worth doing because it makes better uses of limited resources. I would suggest reframing it that way instead of seeing it as a money-making opportunity.
Lolabird2112@reddit
That’s the whole reason they don’t take this stuff: why should they give money to pay to recycle your stuff you can recycle for free?
This is very basic stuff so I don’t quite understand how you can’t reach a recycling point, but I live in London so apologies if it’s far more difficult elsewhere. But most (all?) large grocery shops have them, apartment buildings have shared bins, homes have collection schemes…
It’s rubbish people recycle responsibility (ideally). No reason to get money back for it. Also - perfume bottles, anything black, unlikely to be recyclable.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Lol you obviously did not read the post clearly or the comments. But hey idk, if you’ve been living under a rock then you’d know these things can be recycled for points which turns into actual money that I’ve been using to buy FREE beauty items (makeup, skincare, perfume) for the last 2 years. ☺️ Have an amazing day Karen.
Lolabird2112@reddit
Karen, only you would think I was obligated to read comments just because YOU wrote a post. You clearly haven’t been recycling your shampoo bottles etc thru the scheme, since the scheme’s focus is specifically on difficult to recycle rubbish that isn’t collected as standard. Which is why I didn’t need to “crawl out” from anywhere, because I can… read, and even apply critical thinking skills to the issue.
Splishsplash10000@reddit
Surely all of these items can go in your household recycling that you put out for the bin men?
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
You obviously didn’t read my post clearly. Not what I asked. Have a good day.
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
You’re wanting points/money for ordinary things you can and should be recycling like normal like everyone already does. That’s not going to exist.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Well u clearly aren’t the target audience 😂 you can go read the rest of my comments for your own understanding, not even gonna entertain this comment ☺️☺️☺️
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
You literally replied entertaining with cringe emojis. That’s proper boomer behaviour if anything lol.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
I’m in my twenties and idk a single boomer using emojis but pop off I guess babes 😂😂😂 the emojis were used sarcastically if you have already figured that out xxxx
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
Okay boomer. Hope you get your pennies
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
I will Karen babes. I’ll be sure to get myself some free (yes FREE 🤩) makeup top ups for recycling my beauty empties! I’ve found some new schemes aside from boots to use now thanks to this thread so a win is a win 🥳
Replying to you miserable ppl was just entertainment 😘😂💀
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
That’s a bit sad, you should get some hobbies and try to get out.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Oh dw babes I’m omw to a hobby now. Because unlike you I do get out and know the difference between a hair mist and a normal perfume ☺️🫶
Have a good day xoxoxo
tcpukl@reddit
Why the fuck would someone pay you for your rubbish?
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Idk ask boots and lookfantastic 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Splishsplash10000@reddit
Forgive my ignorance, you’re able to get to Boots to recycle, but you’re not able to put your recycling out on the street/in your buildings bins? If you can explain this accessibility conundrum for us, we might be able to be more helpful
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Already commented and explained this. The normal recycling is not what I’m posting about or asking about. Thanks.
UltimaJay5@reddit
"I said GOOD DAY, sir."
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Y’all are a bunch of weirdos. Sounding like miserable boomers and millennials.
Yes I want money for my BEAUTY empties, there’s a whole boots scheme that does this already. So why on earth would I not want to recycle the rest of my empties for points. 🥴
Not that I even need to freakin’ explain…. My general waste is disposed off in the normal bin that I CAN ACCESS because unfortunately for people here we can’t recycle the cardboard or plastic because the the bins are industrial sized bins that are too FKN high up for anyone to reach and the lids to them weigh a ton and no one can lift them. The landlord’s don’t care. People dump rubbish everywhere here because of it and the normal bins are full of rubbish that can be recycled as a result of this accessibility issue.
Weekly-Practice-8614@reddit
You need to take a breath and calm down lol 😂
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
I’m finding it funny I’m ngl 😂😂 that’s why I’m all replying, this is just entertaining af
Weekly-Practice-8614@reddit
Brilliant! 🤩
JBEqualizer@reddit
What do you do with the other everyday plastics/paper/card etc? Do you recycle those?
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Am I asking about those tho? 🤔🤦🏻♀️
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
So you won’t answer because it’ll expose you
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Already answered this blue biscuits xx
JBEqualizer@reddit
Ah, so you were lying about not being able to access your recycling bin.
I though as much.
Rorosanna@reddit
Don't you have biweekly recycling pickup from outside your house, like general waste?
I'm a bit confused by the bit about needing to drive to a recycling point.
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
Apparently the OP is only interested in recycling if they're going to get some kind of reward, either cash or discounts on other products.
Expensive_Ad_3249@reddit
More than that. They're disabled and can't get to the recycling point because "not accessible", but they can take a big bag to boots to get a refund...hmm accessible...
Further, it's law that every local authority collect plastic, glass and cardboard seperately for recycling across England, and Scotland/Wales have stricter rules in place.
Op just wants money for their rubbish. Soz to disappoint, put it out for the bins.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Nah don’t want to put my beauty empties out for the bin men. Not what I asked again smart Alec
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
Why do you think you’re going to get reasonable reaction when you reply so rudely.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Cause at this point I’m just raigebaiting y’all the same way you boomers are to me in the comments. 💀🤷🏻♀️ this was deffo the wrong community to post in clearly 🤦🏻♀️ it seems people have lost common sense when answering a simple question. I mentioned my normal recycling because of the first silly comment. People don’t read anymore. My question was about beauty recycling point schemes NOT my everyday recycling.
Weekly-Practice-8614@reddit
You are a strange person
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
Yes you sound very clever and current calling people boomers blindly.
JBEqualizer@reddit
I've asked what they do with the rest of their everyday recycling, because what you've said about accessibility also crossed my mind. However if they really do have issues accessing their recycling bin, then at least I can try to help.
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
And to think the rest of us have been doing it unpaid all these years!
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
lol then that’s a you problem for not utilising the schemes out there
BlueBiscuit8@reddit
You don’t have a scheme yourself for these ordinary items that should be recycled normally, that’s the point and why you’re failing to find one and asking.
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
To be fair, I have been part of a rewards-based recycling incentive scheme. Although the reward was a chocolate biscuit and the payments ceased when I was 10.
Weekly-Practice-8614@reddit
Classy huh? 🤦♀️
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Yh very classy of boots to offer a scheme to recycle beauty empties that can be turned into points for actual money, amazing right 🤩
PinkyOutYo@reddit
Where I live, they don't take things like yoghurt pots or newspaper or glass in the collection (things that have been completely normal everywhere else I've lived). They have to go to a recycling point. As someone who doesn't drive like OP, it's incredibly frustrating.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Thankyou!!!
OkSun8521@reddit
To be fair, those things absolutely aren't worth recycling.
L-0-T-H-0-S@reddit
Have you tried Lush or John Lewis's? They both run the same kind of scheme and they accept those items you're finding Boots don't.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Do you know what those schemes are called please? Thankyou for you comment too and actually answering what I asked! 😅🫶
L-0-T-H-0-S@reddit
They're both linked to in the post, and my pleasure. Happy to help if I can.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Thankyou so much will deffo look into it! 🫶
vivalaalice@reddit
Lush only do it for Lush products
YetAnotherInterneter@reddit
I’m very confused by your post and I think others are too which is why you are not getting the responses you are looking for.
You say you can’t recycle them at home because the recycling point is NOT accessible. What do you mean by this? You don’t have to drive anywhere to recycle. You just put them in the recycling box outside your house.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something. Hopefully you can clear it up so we can offer helpful advice.
Expensive_Ad_3249@reddit
They're chatting shit because they want money.
OK_Cake05@reddit
Well yes because it helps to save some money buying new products.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Thankyou!!! People literally attacking me in the comments and commenting sarcastically like it isn’t already a thing! 🤦🏻♀️
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Clearly didn’t read the post 🥱 I want to recycle specifically my beauty items like I have for the last 2 years and get points for it like have been because there already are schemes for this. If you don’t want to do that then that’s on you.
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
Based on their post edit and the angry replies to other comments: the OP will only recycle those containers in exchange for payment or discounts on other products; which they won't get from using council-provided recycling services.
good_as_golden@reddit
Have you actually tried to use the boots recycling app for your empties that you've mentioned? I've recycled a shampoo bottle with them that was a big tube and they accepted it
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
Thankyou for actually answering the question I posted! These comments are NOT IT 😅
How did you do this please? Because mine get automatically declined 😭
vivalaalice@reddit
I don’t think there’s point systems for any of those as they can be recycled at home with household recycling and the points are offered as an incentive to not put them in general waste
OkSun8521@reddit
FTFY
TimeTimeClock@reddit
I also think they use it to collect data on what people are using, including items they don't stock.
OK_Cake05@reddit
Boots. Upload a pic of the empties on the app. Take 5 in and get £5 worth of points when spend £20. Also a scheme for blister packs. John Lewis and Harrods do one also
fickle_tartan@reddit
You're not going to get points or rewards for them anywhere as they can be recycled in regular household recycling.
The only reason Boots give points for other things is because they're much harder to recycle and it prevents them going into landfill (I suspect most of them still do anyway tbh), but there's no incentive for more easily recyclable items.
azaman92x@reddit (OP)
There used to be one with look fantastic I think but I don’t think they’re doing it anymore, hence why I posted
BastardsCryinInnit@reddit
I thought everyone went Boots
Curly_Edi@reddit
Boots
TinksLudo@reddit
I just put shampoo bottles and aerosol cans in my normal recycling bin, maybe check if you can?
chocolate_gal_001@reddit
Don't you have a recycling bin at home?
